Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

Yes.

I remember him travelling with Diana’s sisters to bring her body back. He looked pretty grim faced. I find Earl Spencer’s account quite hard to believe, but who knows.

I think he looked grim faced because he thought everyone would blame him/ he was going to get bad press again.

Paul Burrell (Diana's butler) wrote in his book that when diana died, prince Charles rang him and said 'everyone is going to blame me aren't they'

I think he believes it. I'm not convinced it was what was actually said.

I’m not a royalist and genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if he had said it, but I also think Charles Spencer is a bit unhinged so on balance, I don’t think it’s true.

Oh yes because Paul Burrell was so reliable. I think Charles looked genuinely shocked when he was travelling to and from Paris with her sisters. He didn’t need to go with them after all.

Yes I think he might have said it in the heat of the moment.

Do I really care though? Not hugely. The royals are just another family with scandals and extra marital affairs. At that time, Charles and Diana were toxic with regards to one another. I imagine that didn’t disappear immediately with her death.

No. I don’t believe for one second that if he had said it, that Charles Spencer would have kept quiet about it all these years. He’d have taken every opportunity to shout it from the rooftops every chance he got. He’s said it to sell his book.

He did need to go with them - for his own public image.

Yes they're not worse than a lot of families. I've seen people in my own family be very cold and unemotiobal after people died.

He has said many things about organising Diana's funeral over the past 29 years - including that he got on well with Charles - so why this "sudden recollection"? Is it just drama for money? it's like Spare 2!

I can believe it's something he might have said but I don't believe for a second he said it to him.

I believed it more before reading that Spencer also said that Charles sounded “giddily elated” & “like a lottery winner” in the first phone call they had, just hours after she died - a phone call where Charles told him he’d woken William and Harry up to tell them their mother died.
He sounded elated in a conversation involving talking about telling his sons their mother died?? I don’t think that’s credible. And I doubt his other claims more because of it.

Yep or some version of it. Maybe in reference to the press or fans or someone. I don’t think Spenser is making it up.

I do think they (the royal family) vastly underestimated the public mourning and this comment slides in with that.

Charles was stricken and grieving after viewing her body and after the transport
of Diana’s body. He was shocked by seeing her. I do think he realized his /their culpability in leaving her flapping in the wind. DIana should not have been in Paris is August.

I think this lack of security for Diana resulting in her death could influence his decisions re; Harry and family .

If you look at the his eulogy he ends it with ‘never be extinguished from our minds’. It seems like that is a reference to it having been said.
