Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

No.
And I have no regard for the RF at all.
Charles III would have thought immediately of his 2 boys. No way would he have been elated at breaking the news to them.
Also, if it was true, why wait all these years to say it? I remember Charles Spencer's speech at the funeral. He didn't hold much back. He'd have said it then, if not sooner. And again when H and M split from the RF. He have told H in glee and malice and it would have ended the strapline for that ridiculous book H had ghost written for him.

It's a trashy publicity stunt.

Yes. I too think that is why he was grim faced.

Most fathers would be more concerned about their children

No. I don’t believe for one second that if he had said it, that Charles Spencer would have kept quiet about it all these years. He’d have taken every opportunity to shout it from the rooftops every chance he got. He’s said it to sell his book.

Agreed!

If he’d quoted that particular line in his eulogy to back up his claim he could believably say ‘ I made a guarded reference to it in my eulogy.’

Thats interesting

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · Yesterday 23:49

No, like others I think he'd have revealed it years ago if it was true.

I don't know how he can even remember what was said nearly 30 years ago unless he wrote down stuff planning to flog a book about his sister decades down the line when he needed the money (to fund another divorce).

I wish he'd just let the woman rest in peace. A whole generation has passed, to people like my dd Diana is just a historical figure who died 10 years before she was born. Do we really need another book flogging her memory for £££?

I just don't know why he's waited for nearly 30 years to announce it. I've got no idea if it's true or not

Ooh,let's think 🤔
A book needing maximum exposure because, really, who would otherwise care?
He's got a lot of ex wives and children to support. Well, those children he's not estranged from.

I think he was relying on Buckingham Palace doing the usual no comment. That went well.

He's trading on being Diana's brother, which is distasteful, and he knows that no one can prove what was said one way or the other.

MythologyWriter · Yesterday 23:52

She’s still alive.

Yep, he’s a cold bastard, who thinks he’s above the rest. I’m sure he’d say it.

I believe it too.

And he's completely self centered.

Well, I want to read it because I'm paying for thr RF and I want to know the extent to which I am having the wool pulled over my eyes agsin and again as one member after another f---- up and then I'm fed some cock and bull story by Buckingham Palace about how it wasn"'t really them and it was all somebody else's fault.

Spencer also says that Prince Charles told Diana that he didn't love her before he married her

That's interesting. What do the people you know who worked for Andrew - think about Andrew

Well the ones with the best access are very very reticent about discussing him. He’s presented as a bit of a lonely person who was maybe used by people ( this is before the great shaming ). He sadly did not repay their loyalty and he took it very personally when people left him to move on with their careers. Very hostile and angry despite some fairly long service. Those who have more general access are absolutely scathing. One of my closer friends has had a couple of unfortunate dealings when he’s completely laid into her.

As for Charles I’ve always been told he’s a decent boss but he is a boss ( He does have some hissy fits for sure). He’s much more loyal to his people and recognises their service . As a minion very far removed I always got a Christmas card from him and Camilla for example but certainly never from Andrew. His closer staff were pretty well
looked after.

I'm not keen on King Charles (in truth, I was even less keen on Diana), and I believe he was capable of being frosty towards Diana's family. Do I believe he said any of the awful things reported? No, absolutely not.

Jacobolordy · Today 00:24

I think he may have said something, possibly re the public getting over the weird reaction etc. I also suspect that, while gutted for his sons, he may have been relieved she died as well as sad. She was a thorn in his side.

But. I don't really blame him for that. People have said a lot worse about their ex wives when under stress. And Earl Spencer is a hypocrite who has been awful towards his own ex wives. And why rake over all this after 30 years anyway - purely to make money and sell his family.

So I'm on KCs side even if he did say it.

Well, he cant say everything all at once can he. Maybe we all need to read the book..

Flufffluff11 · Today 00:32

I just watched Earl Spencer's interview with the BBC. He's believable. He talks about the phone call with Prince Charles. He said that he's only had two phone calls with Prince Charles in his entire life, so he remembers every word.

Thanks for that. Yes. I mean just going by vibes, even before Andrew got shamed and kicked out of the Royal family, if I had to work for Charles or Andrew , I'd choose to work fo Charles. Andrew just looks like he has a bad temper

LadyWiddiothethird · Today 00:49

I don’t believe Spencer,he is just after money. All this supposedly happened 29years ago,he has waited until now to reveal it all!I remember 1997 well,as far as we knew he wasn’t even close to Diana. They were a dysfunctional family.

He is now married for the 4th time, the man is an utter twat.Fair to say he believes his own lies.Be interesting to see how well the book does.

MarchionessVonSausage · Today 00:58

I agree with others that KC might've said something similar in regards to the mass public hysteria-in that, it'll calm down and be forgotten soon enough.

CS seems like a deeply troubled man. Apparently he's now divorcing AGAIN and is selling off parcels of the land on his estate so it makes sense to believe he's asset rich but cash poor. The book will bring in a lot of money.

Grant Harrold was also a butler to Charles years ago and says he met Earl Spencer at Altrop and asked if he could buy a copy of his latest book (he's written a few, don't know which he was referring to here). He recounts that he asked if Spencer would sign it and was told no sorry, I've sprained my wrist but if you pay another 25 pounds I'll do it. Nice!

Flufffluff11 · Today 00:59

Oh yeah did anyone read Earl Spencer's other book about his time at boarding school. I did. He was abused

Yes, that was a harrowing read.

What a horrible account. And so common at the time. Its so interesting to me that the upper class at that time had so much money - and yet they all sent their children off to be abused in boarding schools. Boarding schools were much much worse then, then they are now

At the time Charles never appeared anything either than very shocked and grieving. He's not that good an actor so no, I don't believe Spencer's version. It's fairly obvious that he has his own agenda, and the fact that he's still trying to make money out of his deceased sister is deeply distasteful.

He's not going to appear giddy and delighted in front of the public though is he. They all have a carefully crafted public face.

Remember they said that Camilla hired extra staff to improve her public image.

They all have loads of staff helping them with a careful crafted public image

Why can't he? Why did it take 30 years for him to come up with this one? Is it because he's only just made it up in order to make money?
