Ham are now asking to be called "public figures".. wtf! They wanted to be private citizens which is why they left the RF..Is this to try & get security.
Good on King Charkes nipping their shit in the bud & reminding them of their station!

Harry and Meghan ‘caught off guard’ by King’s decision over their status

The couple were reportedly ‘surprised’ by the memorandum issued by King Charles

Honestly? I think they should call in professional mediators.

People magazine would know all about it within a few days.

From 'sources'. Obviously.

Sadly, that's the trouble. They're really not to be trusted.

@Greygreenlandscape654

I don’t think there’s anything in a reconciliation for the RF, is there? Even if it were a possibility, which I don’t think it is now.

i mean - it might be worth reconciling with decent people you want to re-establish relationships with, but to KC and definitely W and C, the HAMs are a pair of spiteful, treacherous, poisonous shits who are on the downward slide anyway - why would the RF be in the least interested in kissing and making up?

And - the RF have maintained their dignity throughout the Sussex’s sustained onslaught while the Sussexes themselves have made ocean-going pillocks of themselves. Who’d want to be associated with their farcical pantomime?

No, how do you "meditate" with someone as obsessive, arrogant and intransigent as Harry?
What's the starting point? Harry trashed his family for money. I don't know how you get past that. Violation of privacy and, unfortunately, lies.
So they leave, take a "freedom flight" then.... want to return as working royals?
We're all different, but I'm no Royalist who would kowtow to someone just because he has a title. That seems to be Harry's ambition and that of his followers.
I don't know how you meditate with someone like that.

And why, in the name of God, would you bother?

CoffeeCantata · 13/09/2026 08:25

But Bunny - do you really think Meghan is popular enough for any charity to risk taking her on? The polls say a resounding no, and I think the next year or so will make this worse. Her reputation (like her husband’s) is for grifting, slacking, bunking off because it’s boring talking to ordinary people, extracting huge expenses and making awful speeches.

i mean - her reputation for any kind of service which doesn’t primarily serve HER isn’t great.

It's the dreadful speeches and over the top cringey behaviour and the look at me I'm the Royal Duchess HRH (in abeyance.) Meghan Markle. Not to mention the writing messages on bananas. Nobody wants that nonsense.

LaMarschallin · 13/09/2026 09:34

I suppose "mediation" makes a change from "therapy" being seen the panacea for everything.

This ⬆️. The RF have wisely risen above all the spite, nastiness and vile accusations.
They shouldn't stoop to Harry's level now.

True; and like therapy, you've got to want to move forward and accept change. So not Harry then.

I know. Unlike Harry, the other royals are actually busy. Do they have the time and energy for something that would only come back to bite them?

Chockachip · 13/09/2026 09:36

They must regret leaving. If they’d stayed life would be so different. Coming back is humiliating. Meghan said she hated the country, mocked the institution but wants her children educated here? Doesn’t make sense.

On the subject of whether charities would want her patronage, all I can say is - if you fall for her nonsense after all we now know, then you deserve to be shafted over the expense claims and the self-promotion she’d use you for!

Greygreenlandscape654 · 13/09/2026 09:46

CoffeeCantata · 13/09/2026 09:12

That’s exactly it!

She just never understood the difference between royal patronage and celebrity appearances. I will refrain from writing an essay on this but the key points are:

  • shining a light on other people and slipping into the background yourself. You are not the star!
  • taking time to listen and learn, not tell people what to do in a word-salad speech
  • showing a genuine long term interest in the people and the cause.

But to do these things you have to have a bit of depth yourself as a person.

I think Megan did achieve that with Grenfell and with the Himmah charity in Nottingham.

Also the charity sector is very different in the USA compared with that of the UK, so it’s not surprising if she didn’t get everything quite right but everyone acknowledges that she put a lot of effort in. She was an actress; the US celebrity experience of charity is very differentl yet again. Who knows, she could have felt overwhelmed and at a disadvantage, and over compensated as a result, by being too controlling or whatever?

I have in my professional life mixed with a lot of very high born people and obviously there are some good and some bad but honestly so much of it can be cult-like. The schools they attended, the special terms they use, the traps they set, who they know, having this friend, or that friend, in an influential position and making sure you know about it; it can honestly be really unpleasant and is designed to exclude those not in the know or from a different background.

As for that comment about not being paid; has anyone considered that it was a throw away line said out of temporary frustration or could it have been an ill timed joke? We don’t know for sure do we?

invitadeficere · 13/09/2026 09:50

I’m also not sure why some republicans seem so intent on getting h back into the fold.

Why do they want him being back in an institution they do not want?

Or should it be ok if he was back in?

Yes, that's a hard one to figure out. Why would anyone with republican ideas give any time to people so intent on living with privilege and status like that? Most odd.

Do they?

Other than the typical type of royal 'work' what great 'effort' did she put in?

What has she done for any of these charities these past 7 years?

Who knows, she could have felt overwhelmed and at a disadvantage, and over compensated as a result, by being too controlling or whatever?

It's not like she went into this blind. She had an entire team whose only job was to support her. If she chose not to listen to them, well, that's on her.

We don’t. But you don’t hear anyone else whining that they weren’t paid.

But it was apparently said and here we are.

Well surely it's up to other people to define them that way. They can't demand it. What's the definition of a "public figure" anyway?

In a governmental sense, someone who deserves security from the state for their service eg former prime ministers.

Hopefully they will just remove the Sussex titles. Harry will always be a 'prince' but that's all.

No it won't be the same. They haven't penned in Grimsby town hall meeting the OAPs, Milton Keynes bingo club, Middlesborough cub scouts new hall ribbon cutting. They're just picking and choosing their own select choices so they actually aren't doing much at all. There's no way the taxes will pay for that level of grift.

"Harry will always be a prince".

Andrew isn't any more though.

For many republicans the more Harry protests and causes trouble the better!

I am coming at this on a purely human level; hoping a family rift can be resolved.

But I also do think that it’s a bit much if a hereditary monarch in the herediary system, can’t handle what goes along with that ie difficult family members! It’s not very professional is it?

I don’t think being in the RF is good for the individuals within it or good for the country.

For example, George was in the news starting Eton last week, I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone thinks it is acceptable, or psychologically healthy, in 2026, to tell a 13 year old that their future is laid out for them and they are going to inherit the crown and everyone will be interested in them and that he doesn’t have a choice. I think in a hundred years or so people will look back and think of this as very cruel.

And although they have financial compensations, it is known by now that wealth above a certain level does not add to human happiness.

This is just my opinion. Republicans don’t all hold the same views.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 13/09/2026 10:09

They always do the things that end up backfiring on them. I've never understood why people call Meghan "clever". I've never seen any sign of any brains. To manage to piss off two countries due to your behaviour takes some doing.

They should have been quiet, respectful and kept their heads down here for a year or two. Concentrated on the children and the school run. Reconnected with friends who still want to see Harry. Not rocked the boat and then people may have started thinking they weren't such twats. But no...they have to kick up a fuss as soon as they come back so we all remember what unreasonable twats they actually are.

Maybe someone should talk to both Prince Harry and Prince William and say that all this is not only most likely stressing their dad but also impacting those that could be helped. It’s distracting and divisive :

I understand that Prince William must feel like he has been punched in the stomach by Prince Harry especially for publicly attacking his lovely wife. Prince Harry obviously has a lot of baggage and seems desperately unhappy. I’m sure that if the mother was around. She might have spoken to then both to resolve this. King Charles is too overwhelmed and also has been ill plus grieving to get to grips with all this.

The RF would be stronger if all this was resolved as I don’t think we can bear another 20 years of eg will Harry by at the changing of the guards? Will Harry be at Balmoral? Will Harry go to his dad’s funeral ( in many years to come) will he go to the Coronation? Will he be at there with the RF for Christmas?

This is not the usual family where you can ignore your brother for decades.

People seem to want to wreck vengeance on Harry wishing that he would disappear or F off. It’s not that simple. This all needs to be resolved for everyone’s sake especially for the King.

Well, the answer to all those questions is surely No, even if Harry is refusing to accept it? Not sure what a resolution would look like in your eyes, but I reckon the situation is as “resolved” as it’s going to get.

H & M are firmly on the outside. They just need to stfu, now.

Yes, and what we say is important, our choice of words and the context. It's incredibly poor behaviour from a working royal to say that out loud. Poor judgement at best.

What do you mean?

Harry and his wife have been continuously provoking his family these past 7 years, and BP and KP have studiously ignored them, issuing only very carefully worded official statements on a handful of occasions. That sounds very 'professional' to me. You don't respond to juvenile behaviour by sinking to their level.

Family members fall out. It's a shame but it happens. Sometimes it can be repaired, sometimes it can't. As long as Harry keeps running to his WhatsApp group with the latest whining about his family, it would seem that this 'rift' cannot be repaired. And I don't believe it should be.

CoffeeCantata · 13/09/2026 10:21

@Greygreenlandscape654

Is there evidence of M’s longterm commitment and behind-the-scenes work for Grenfell and the other charity you mention? I’m asking a genuine question - I don’t know. I mean - did she do more than simply make an appearance? I know there was a cookbook, but what does that actually mean in terms of Meghan’s input?

I’d be pleasantly surprised if you could demonstrate that M’s interest in any charity amounts to more than a short personal appearance and a speech.

CoffeeCantata · 13/09/2026 10:25

@Greygreenlandscape654

I’ll believe you really care about this family rift if you say so…thousands wouldn’t!

But if you are really personally investedc(which I’m not at all) in their relationships, I think you’ll be disappointed. Newsflash: not everything in life is reversible or fixable. Wishing for toxic people to rejoin families isn’t always either sensible or for the best.

As is often said elsewhere on MN: stay NC with toxic family members - it’s best for everyone in the longterm.
