Ham are now asking to be called "public figures".. wtf! They wanted to be private citizens which is why they left the RF..Is this to try & get security.
Good on King Charkes nipping their shit in the bud & reminding them of their station!

Harry and Meghan ‘caught off guard’ by King’s decision over their status

The couple were reportedly ‘surprised’ by the memorandum issued by King Charles

I think time will fly and suddenly there’ll be the Wales children as young adults and it’s always possible that say, Zara, might step up once her super-active equestrian and child-rearing years are behind her. Yes, I know she hasn’t been a working royal in the way her mother has, but times and people change and by the time she’s in her 50s she might decide to step up.

But however scarce the royals, I don’t see a role for The Treacherous Two.

There will be no role for them, they've made it impossible.

It may not be a random charity but you seem to think the job of the royal family is to work for whichever random charity asks them to.

I'm not sure why you can't get Meghan though now she's back in the UK. King Charles said Harry and Meghan will continue with their charity work and they are public figures, so she could still be a good choice. She will certainly be interested, won't she?

How many working members of the royal family do you think there should be to satisfy all the charities in the country? Perhaps George will have five children and they will have five children each so maybe things will balance out again in a generation or so. Perhaps 35 working royals will be enough.

But Bunny - do you really think Meghan is popular enough for any charity to risk taking her on? The polls say a resounding no, and I think the next year or so will make this worse. Her reputation (like her husband’s) is for grifting, slacking, bunking off because it’s boring talking to ordinary people, extracting huge expenses and making awful speeches.

i mean - her reputation for any kind of service which doesn’t primarily serve HER isn’t great.

Well, quite.
It's not just a matter of quantity of Royals, it's quality too.
I doubt any charity would benefit from a patron who seems to have been let in to take up the slack because the actual WRF is busy.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 13/09/2026 08:28

Meghan once said ‘I can’t believe we’re not getting paid for this’, so I don’t think she understands the concept of ‘royal patronage’ nor does she want to hear about your amazing journey with your son based on her complete disinterest in a woman’s heartbreaking story about her life and child

If you can produce lots of cameras and let her talk at length about herself then she might be interested in your charity as a PR opportunity for Meghan, But you might get hit with a hefty expenses bill, deal with lots of chaotic drama

Is it really worth it

Noras · 13/09/2026 08:29

Well I think that the royal family is looking a bit threadbare. I am really worried that things might get too much for Princess Ann and the King. Prince Andrew has been disgraced. The Duke of Edinburgh is looking exhausted these days. The children have at least 10 plus years before they can pick up the reins. Beatrice does not even live in the UK any longer.

We have never had before such a slim down monarchy. I think it was assumed that Prince Andrew and Harry would be available.

So I think that the whole thing is a pity. Prince Harry was fantastic at getting attention to causes but now it’s all tarnished because people wil suspect that he is doing it to cultivate his image for his commercial aims.

i am not excusing Harry for what he did but hair stating that it’s a pity.

LaMarschallin · 13/09/2026 08:37

Tbh, Noras, I think you may be a little unrealistic in what you expect from a Royal patron.
I mean this:

We wanted to raise funds to create Drama classes for those with language issues with ASD. We hoped to use a NAS ball However it was a nightmare getting prizes for the auction and selling tickets. We raised funds but not enough and those funds got consumed into the small swimming group for ASD. Princess Ann was president of NAS but even thought she is literally up th3 road she is really too busy to attend

Do you honestly expect the Princess Royal to attend a local charity ball? Even if she is "just up the road"?
It's not like she could nip in after a quick shower and a dash of lipstick. There'd be a huge amount of background organisation, including security.
I've been to plenty of these affairs and certainly wouldn't be expecting Royalty to attend, patron or not.

Noras · 13/09/2026 08:39

Maybe someone should talk to both Prince Harry and Prince William and say that all this is not only most likely stressing their dad but also impacting those that could be helped. It’s distracting and divisive :

I understand that Prince William must feel like he has been punched in the stomach by Prince Harry especially for publicly attacking his lovely wife. Prince Harry obviously has a lot of baggage and seems desperately unhappy. I’m sure that if the mother was around. She might have spoken to then both to resolve this. King Charles is too overwhelmed and also has been ill plus grieving to get to grips with all this.

The RF would be stronger if all this was resolved as I don’t think we can bear another 20 years of eg will Harry by at the changing of the guards? Will Harry be at Balmoral? Will Harry go to his dad’s funeral ( in many years to come) will he go to the Coronation? Will he be at there with the RF for Christmas?

This is not the usual family where you can ignore your brother for decades.

People seem to want to wreck vengeance on Harry wishing that he would disappear or F off. It’s not that simple. This all needs to be resolved for everyone’s sake especially for the King.

Yes it would be nice to have attendance and they try to attend when events are in major cities ( as is the city in which I live).

But the reality is and this is my point, that the RF are stretched thin.

So the loss of Harry is a tragedy. I’m not forgiving him the last few years but I wish that things could be resolved or worked out differently.

How can they "both" resolve this? William is getting on with his life. He had to deal with his father's illness, and the possibility of becoming HoS sooner than anticipated. Then his wife had cancer, and he had to support her and their young children. Then all the business with AMW.
William has nothing to "resolve" with Harry.
Harry has chosen to betray his brother for money and attempt to besmirch the entire RF for his own gain.
How on earth can William "resolve" that?

Harry is a liability to the RF, not an asset.

They wanted to be private citizens
and they are, and it works. How many photos of their children have you seen? Come on, show us.

Will and Kate want their children to have a "normal" and grounded childhood, and George just started Eaton,

Not sure why you are focusing and hating one couple when the rest of the family is much worst in term of hypocrisy.

This isn't comparable, there are huge restrictions, how 'normal' a life do you think the future monarch can have? Not boarding at Eton until 13 rather than starting there at 8 like previous generations?

I'm afraid I disagree.

Better to be without Harry and Meghan than just to put up with them regardless because we want Royals appearing at local charity balls or whatever.

I certainly wouldn't call it a "tragedy".
More a nuisance.

As has been said, there's no reason your charity shouldn't approach Harry or Meghan (with her skills). Maybe their presence would inspire people to donate better auction prizes or something.

Indeed.
This all falls under the "Somebody should do something, but I don't know who and I don't know what" heading.

SaltyTea · 13/09/2026 09:07

Far from being modernisers, H&M seem to want to replicate a tired model. Support for the Royal family is declining. I don't think there will be much support for bringing H&M back into the fold. They would be better advised to look at alternative ways to carve out a meaningful public role if that is what they want to do.

Honestly? I think they should call in professional mediators. BP would have access to the best in the world. Professionals do this for a living, Someone in my dh’s family had them come in to their workplace which was a family business and they resolved a serious, eleven year long dispute that involved inheritance and who ultimately took charge. Everything was resolved after a three month process.

As a republican I say this purely from the family dynamic perspective, it doesn’t do anyone any good to live with ongoing rancour,

I know the majority on here seem to be of the opinion that the fault of all of this lies with M & H alone, but in most disputes there are faults on both sides. We don’t know everything that happened. We know that BP is only willing to share the positives. And we know that their mistakes get shielded from the public to some degree.

Do I believe that a family who concealed AMW’s activities for over a decade could also be capable of getting things wrong with H&M? Yes I do!

Do I think everything that H&M have done is wonderful and perfect? No I really don’t!

Something obviously went very wrong and it would have been a much more intelligent move to bring Harry back within the folds of the family early on and resolve it internally.

If there could be some acknowledgment from both sides that mistakes had been made then that would be a start,

That’s exactly it!

She just never understood the difference between royal patronage and celebrity appearances. I will refrain from writing an essay on this but the key points are:

  • shining a light on other people and slipping into the background yourself. You are not the star!
  • taking time to listen and learn, not tell people what to do in a word-salad speech
  • showing a genuine long term interest in the people and the cause.

But to do these things you have to have a bit of depth yourself as a person.

That's the ironic thing.

The faux royal 'tours' and the concept of unspecified 'charity work' is exactly the kind of dated model the royals are moving away from. Far from 'modernising' the royal family, the Sussexes seem to want to hark back to an outdated 1950s style.

invitadeficere · 13/09/2026 09:19

Something obviously went very wrong

Harry went very wrong.

The only thing wrong with Harry is that he wasn’t born to be king and the bitterness has overwhelmed him.

While mediation may have helped beautifully with your dh’s business? I’ll wager that was not played out on the world stage.

The RF have moved on and are living well enough that I can see.

Only the instigator has not moved on.

Sometimes it is better to completely distance yourself from people who seem rotten to the core.

H&M are very traditional and old fashioned. They have very prescribed gender roles in their family.
They want status and privilege because of their titles alone.

No, how do you "meditate" with someone as obsessive, arrogant and intransigent as Harry?
What's the starting point? Harry trashed his family for money. I don't know how you get past that. Violation of privacy and, unfortunately, lies.
So they leave, take a "freedom flight" then.... want to return as working royals?
We're all different, but I'm no Royalist who would kowtow to someone just because he has a title. That seems to be Harry's ambition and that of his followers.
I don't know how you meditate with someone like that.
