Ham are now asking to be called "public figures".. wtf! They wanted to be private citizens which is why they left the RF..Is this to try & get security.
Good on King Charkes nipping their shit in the bud & reminding them of their station!

Harry and Meghan ‘caught off guard’ by King’s decision over their status

The couple were reportedly ‘surprised’ by the memorandum issued by King Charles

I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone thinks it is acceptable, or psychologically healthy, in 2026, to tell a 13 year old that their future is laid out for them and they are going to inherit the crown and everyone will be interested in them and that he doesn’t have a choice. I think in a hundred years or so people will look back and think of this as very cruel.

It isn’t your call though. It is his. And if he doesn’t want it, way down deep in his heart? I’m damned sure W&C will support him should he wish to abdicate.

Because he really does have a choice.

None of us know what the future holds but I’m sure he will make a better fist of his life - king or not - than his bitter uncle.

I would also wonder if his uncle’s behaviour hasn’t spurred him on to do the very best he can for his country. Unlike his uncle.

Is it really his call?

There is a lot of pressure on anyone who is the heir to take up the mantle of the top job.

His education and upbringing will be geared towards it.

I doubt any one of them wants the crown but I think they see what happens to family members “on the outside” and are persuaded to think again.

No one wants an abdication or the end of monarchy on their watch either I imagine.

I stand by my point that I think it is psychologically cruel and a horrible burden for a teenager to bear.

It must change the nature of your relationships, you have to learn to live with extreme secrecy and wariness as to whether friends like you for yourself or your prospective title. He can’t be spontaneous or even attend lessons without a bodyguard?

Why are we putting young people through this in 2026? Seriously?

I note the matron incident has, unsurprisingly, been skated over....

I think it got lost in an obfuscation of accusations of the matron herself being cruel, someone else being cruel and slamming desk lids on children's fingers at "Harry's school" (Eton? Really?) which may have been when Harry was there or may not and a PP's female teacher being cruel presumably somewhere else... 🤷‍♀️

Chelsy is doing great & seems so incredibly happy. She was always extremely independent & made the right choice for herself. Her life in Mauritius looks idyllic.

I do believe Harry did love Africa, he & Meghan were only together three weeks & he brought her to his favourite place Botswana.

I don't think Chelsy was ever going to change him, she saw and accepted him for who he was , the baggage & responsibilities that came from being inna relationship with him & it wasn't for her.
However I think had she stayed around Harry would be a very different person now & would still have a great relationship with his family. Also his the precious last year's spent with his grandmother & grandfather would have been much more pleasant .

Yes, after their mother died, Charles took William and Harry to Botswana, they did some camping, plenty of walking, learning about the wildlife. Harry said it was a very happy time, so it's not surprising he wanted to recreate that in some way.

He attends all lessons without bodyguards.

I feel also with Chelsy she was part of that Harry's circle before they got together, she just naturally fitted in as they had so many mutual friends & acquaintances. Like Meghan is American, Chelsy is Zimbabwean but adapted to the British ways of like & customs much better. She went to a British boarding school as a teenager which helped but she was much more comfortable in Harry's circle.
Also like Kate Chelsy came from a very secure & loving family & apparently her parents always made Harry very welcome with lots of gin & tonic "sundowners" whenever he visited her home in Zimbabwe.

I loved Chelsy & am so happy for her.

I personally think W&C are doing their very best by their children and are well aware of the expectation on their children.

I think they will have prepared them very well and will also stand right by them should they wish to choose a different life.

As for being wary of people. Good ole uncle Harry will have taught them all they will ever know about trust and having good people around you.

A bloody good lesson in dealing with psychologically cruel people too.

Having good people around you isn’t limited to royalty by the way. It applies to everyone. More so with the rf and megastars I’ll grant you but it is a useful way to live for all.

Seriously? It really isn’t your call. You don’t get to say how they feel. Even in 2026.

Does this look like someone who was tortured with psychological cruelty and the burden of having to prepare for his future while he was attending Eton?

The obligatory muddying of waters and reluctance to address the case in point is a recognisable tactic.

@TheOvertGardener - George on his first day at Eton looked thrilled to bits! Obviously looking forward to it.

He really did. Someone asked why anyone would be “jealous” of a teen.

I can see why anyone would envy his position. He looks “securely attached” and like a child who has had the benefit of knowing he is loved and supported by two stable and intelligent parents.

Yes - I guess HAM supporters don’t want to acknowledge how ugly that revelation was (doubly so: firstly in the original behaviour and then in the tasteless retelling).

There’s really no easy response for them, so the subject gets rapidly changed.

We see them!

Lack of trust is definitely the main barrier to reconciliation. W&C will want to protect their children. H&M seem to thrive on grievance and I can't see them holding back in future. If allowed back into the fold, I predict re-runs of complaints about George getting something bigger or better than Archie, Charlotte being cold towards Lili, and on and on and on. It will be to the detriment to all the children but to date H&M do not seem to be able to exercise any self-restraint.

On the ridiculous but poisonous site, Celebitchy, the Squad were pitying G for his awful uniform, which they think needs to be updated immediately. Bless them.

Yeah - people would pay £60K a year to wear a sweatshirt and grey trousers…I don’t think so!

Your faux concern is something that other republicans have used before, stop using children to bolster your argument, to use the same comment that is often made…..why do you care? , you don’t know these children, you have never met them!
I would argue that saddling two children with useless titles when they primarily live in a country that doesn’t acknowledge them is far more cruel.

It is a different world and I’m sure many don’t get it.

Oh goodness, I am remembering the terrible but funny chant at school games when one team scored against the posher school “It’s all right, there’s no fuss. One of these days you’ll work for us!”

Terrible!! But a grain of truth in that case.

I absolutely hate strangers expressing pity for others. It’s not kind or sincere, just a way to sound superior.

Saddling a girl with the name Princess Lilibet Diana is, imo, problematic.

Well normally as you know I don’t actually like discussing any of the children but I can’t disagree.

You're viewing it very simply through the lens of an everyday teenager though, not one who has been born into a gilded life that involves palaces and pomp and servants and titles and a grandfather he bows to. We cannot imagine what life is like growing up privy to all of that, but it's certainly not the same as a teenager gaming in their room deciding he doesn't want to inherit the family firm.

LaMarschallin · 13/09/2026 13:04

My favourite was a while back when someone "sympathised" that Catherine couldn't just pop down to Tesco...

God, yes! I'd be feeling the pain of not having to fetch a pint of milk while I was at a film premiere.

Let alone the fact she is seen at the shops.
Unlike HAM who were apparently having difficulties buying a pencil case without being seen...🙄

Greygreenlandscape654 · 13/09/2026 13:15

I haven’t time to respond to everyone individually about the framing of this as a family dispute to somehow lessen the impact of what Harry has supposedly done, but that wasn’t my intention at all, because I simply don’t see his so called misdemeanours as being serious enough to warrant that frankly.

Harry did not say that King Charles overstepped his constitutional boundaries; as I recall, H explicitly clarified that he never asked the King to intervene in the RAVEC case and only wanted officials to "let the experts do their jobs” in relation to his security dispute.

He did accuse the family of racism and he had to back track on that I believe because he was possibly threatened legally or in some other way if he didn’t recant. Unlike many of you on here, I don’t find it improbable that Meghan faced some racism from some members of the RF.

Unlike some of you on here, I don’t find it improbable that the RF use bullying tactics on people who oppose them in some way either. We know from Lownie’s work that they do frequently use NDA’s and legal letters to silence people. I don’t trust blindly that the RF are a completely benign force for good. Sorry if that upsets anyone!

They undoubtedly do some very good things but why do they need to shield themselves behind such a thick wall of secrecy if everything they are doing is above board?

And on that point; whenever there has been an enquiry in to an issue eg Dumfries House financing, alleged access for passports, minor alleged money laundering, bags for cash etc, the RF are rarely, if ever, found guilty and sometimes, someone else takes the fall. But dodginess is often apparent shall we say! So why do you all trust them so wholly?

Yet those of you who have responded to my posts still refuse to even consider the possibility that the RF and/or the institution did anything wrong when handling H and M. This is unrealistic imho.

The essence of the issue is that if you have a hereditary monarchy then family issues do become state ones and vice versa. Good examples of this are: Edward VIII’s abdication, Princess Margaret’s potential marriage and Princess Diana’s funeral.

To my mind this is problematic; the very fact that family issues do become state ones is something we do not need as a group of countries in 2026. We do not need these issues dominating our headlines when there are far more serious things to think about.

But at its heart imho this still remains a dispute between two brothers with its origins in childhood. Without wishing to sound rude, whether some of you think I am being sincere about this, or not, is a complete irrelevance,

DelectableMe · 13/09/2026 13:20

No, @Greygreenlandscape654: Harry was absolutely unequivocal.
He told Tom Bradby, in a televised interview that they had never accused the RF of racism. Harry said that was the fault of "The British Media" (sic)
Which is most peculiar as they got the Kennedy Award for challenging racism in the RF.
Anyway. None of it makes sense.
