I read this article in the DM which was originally brought to my attention by my MIL, who has a very keen interest in goings-on involving the RF.

'His absences have not gone unnoticed': Norman Baker asks when 'workshy William' is going to step up https://mol.im/a/15908021

I must admit I was surprised to learn that William has attended fewer events than KC and Anne over the last 3 years. I agree with the sentiment that he needs to step up to ease the burden on his father.

NORMAN BAKER asks when 'workshy William' is going to step up

He might be a present husband and father, but when it comes to carrying out royal duties, the Prince of Wales is 'workshy', a royal expert has claimed.

His wife had cancer treatment he probably is excused. The DM is the equivalent of a gossip over the fence they love the drama !

Purpleandping · 25/06/2026 16:31

I don't think it's unreasonable that a father and husband had some leave/flexible working while his wife had cancer treatment.

What is his diary like in a normal year?

Mischance · 25/06/2026 16:32

From the DM ... says it all ....

Lomonald · 25/06/2026 16:32

How are royal duties allocated does Norman say if prince william cancelled and engagements?

VanCleefArpels · 25/06/2026 16:32

These things always fail to take into account the private work done for things like Earthshot and managing the Duchy etc

Wenttoaweddingonamonday · 25/06/2026 16:34

He’s always been a lazy sod

The pair of them, no idea why everyone fawns over them. Useless

Pootles34 · 25/06/2026 16:35

Well, he's king - he's the top one, of course he has the most - and Anne's always been well known for it.

I hope they're deliberately allowing William some time for his family.

His father had/has cancer and worked more than the man who did not have cancer...

MarmaladeorJam · 25/06/2026 16:36

Excuse the grammar? 😛

AbsoluteHoot · 25/06/2026 16:37

Before Kate’s cancer he was a lazy git, so was she. They can’t keep trotting it out as an excuse forever.

Miranda65 · 25/06/2026 16:37

Norman Baker has form for this kind of nonsense, and the press love to shit-stir. This is just lazy journalism.

Why?

He is pushing towards fifty.

He should be working.

Well the King did step back and Prince william did do more, but i don't know why the daily mail click bait riles people so much it is basically Hello Magazine with a splattering of actual news.

Is it though?

There is a case to be answered.

They take too much from the public purse to be completely unaccountable.

I think (some) people are already riled and the DM picks up on that for clicks.

Yes, i agree although I did not click.

Silverwombat · 25/06/2026 16:43

The first sentence article is referring to the first six months of this year. Kate finished her cancer treatment in 2024.

My 8 yr old daughter had treatment for cancer - surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy. Both I and DH were back at work full time within a month of her finishing treatment - and were still working part time whilst she was poorly. Someone else's illness over a year ago is not a reason for him to work less now.

Purpleandping · 25/06/2026 16:43

Surely public engagements aren't the only work they do. I don't know the answer but maybe he does more of the work on managing the estates or something.

I have colleagues who do more meetings than me, they don't do more work.

CraftyGin · 25/06/2026 16:45

William and Catherine's engagement involve a lot more background research and less visible help. They really can't be compared to Anne or the Kents.

dottiedodah · 25/06/2026 16:46

He has had to care for Kate and KC as well.He also has a young family .I think he wants to put his family first .He has turned out for many events to be fair.I think DM are stirring the pt a bit here TBH

sweatymessi · 25/06/2026 16:47

I think the press are running out of criticisms for Harry so naturally William will be in the firing line. However I do think him & C do very little & I thought this pre cancer.

Quizzled · 25/06/2026 16:47

So in the period of time measured, William attended 57 events, Charles 76, Anne 100.
Anne is known for attending everything so that’s no surprise.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable that the reigning monarch attend 20 more events than the heir.
Also, not attending events doesn’t mean he isn’t working on something. He’s also a father of three young children!
Yet more daily fail nonsense.

I agree with this - not sure why now though, or what the specific aim of it all is.
