Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

It's completely bizarre. Who's it for? What's it for? Why? It's a bit word salad as well.

Surely just a "happy birthday Kate" from the Royal accounts on all social media is enough?

ohfourfoxache · 09/01/2026 13:39

Meaningless tripe 🤮

I’ve got nothing against the lass, but this feels forced and ill-timed

ElegantFowl · 09/01/2026 13:40

What a load of saccharine, meaningless shite.

If Meghan released a soft focus, glossy curated PR video, she’d be torn apart. But it’s Kate so we’re supposed to lap it up and be grateful.

CoastalGrey · 09/01/2026 13:41

I'm no Meghan fan but I completely agree @ElegantFowl I'm really getting tired of seeing the RF waste money left right and centre when the rest of the country is struggling.

Cantheowneroftheredcorsapleasemovetheircar · 09/01/2026 13:41

They are pushing Catherine so hard.

It's because The Queen has gone, and they know Queen Camilla will never be loved by the British people, sadly. So they need a mother of the nation and they are going to push Catherine hard into that role so by the time she becomes Queen, they've got a nice, secure Mother/Grandmother of the nation right there and they will feel safe.

Bougainsillier · 09/01/2026 13:42

I’m a bit of a royal fan would usually defend them as not doing right for wrong, but I agree this is too saccharine, too forced and slightly nauseating.

This thread is full of criticism, it’s nonsense to suggest that Meghan would be criticised for this but Kate will only be praised.

I’ve not seen the video - is it like the one they did last year, all wandering around the woods? If it is, I’d probably agree with the above criticism because I didn’t like that one. Although I don’t think “ill timed” is right because I’m not sure there’s a better time for something like that. It will always be twee and a bit annoying.

johntorodesfatcheeks · 09/01/2026 14:01

cringeworthy shite

Yes, this thread shows people have sense. But I bet if you looked at the video on her IG, it’s nothing but praise and thanks and unwavering forelock tugging.

I might go on and comment WOT A LOAD O’SHITE! 😂

Miranda65 · 09/01/2026 14:10

Agreed. I'm happy she is recovering, and I generally have no issues with the Waleses.
But this saccharine nonsense is getting too much. Hopefully, she will now stop.

I much prefer the King's approach of "cancer is a bit of a bugger, but we'll press on and keep working" (& let us remember, he still actually has cancer).
If Catherine learns to develop a stiff upper lip, I think it will serve her much better with the British public.

Nitgel · 09/01/2026 14:24

God thats so drippy.

It's worth watching the video, particularly if you're commenting on a Thread about it

It's the last of the series.

I can see why some people wouldn't like the video, but to criticise a video about winter, released in January, as 'ill-timed' is interesting.

I agree. Usually I'm neither here nor there with the RF PR machine but this is too much.

also, the British stiff upper lip is underrated. We don't know Catherine personally and probably don't need to.

I think it’s beautiful.

IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow · 09/01/2026 14:32

Not sure ‘Mother Nature’ would like her husband heading off with a gun and blowing birds out of the sky, or killing deer…

Probably none too chuffed about the multiple 4x4s, private jets and helicopters needed anytime they and their security entourage go anywhere.

They must think we’re idiots. The absolute arrogance of thinking we want a highly produced soft focus video with a naff, nonsensical voiceover as our gift on her birthday. So relatable!

DappledThings · 09/01/2026 14:36

That's really cringy. Totally meaningless drivel voice over. Most of the words are vague enough they could be attributed to any season.

Bet that was a stunt hand in the freezing stream and not her real one.

Bits on the bridge reminded me of Vic and Bob as their Burke and Hare folk singer bit.

ClimbEveryLadder · 09/01/2026 14:44

Gosh that was embarrassing to watch, whoever was speaking is terrible, I couldn’t work out if the script was just a word salad or whether it made no sense because the narrator had no idea when to take a pause when reading from a card.

FloridaCheese · 09/01/2026 14:45

I find myself reflecting deeply

in peaceful nature

thankful for the simplicity of life and all it brings

such as no washing or ironing to do

my children's school uniforms and sports kits always sorted out for me

nutricious meals cooked by Sven (personal chef)

I have so much time to wander in my acres and get in touch with all the nature around me and thankful it is not a traffic jam or other such nature sucking horror

Rosamutabilis · 09/01/2026 14:51

I liked it.
I think it's true that when you have been through a very serious illness, presumably at times worried about the possibility of death and leaving your children motherless and have come through, you are so much more aware of nature and the rhythms of life and seasons and appreciate it so much more. Being outside in nature also has proven benefits for mental well-being. I would doubt she would have made this type of film had she not had cancer.

I agree that she is being built up to take her place as the next Queen. It's successful, the latest poll shows that she is the most popular royal, with William second.

furryleopard · 09/01/2026 14:56

Reminded me of the saccharine Vanessa Redgrave voiceover on Call the Midwife. I found it all just too cheesy for me.

Eudaimonia11 · 09/01/2026 14:57

My favourite bit is where she runs her hand through the stream with that big rock on her finger 😂 Stop prancing about and get a job, you lazy cow!

There’s no video she could have posted that wouldn’t be cringe and out of touch because that’s what her role is! She’s part of an old fashioned institution and has a responsibility to uphold the way of life of the family she married into. That way of life is to present a wholesome family image and to be better than everyone else. She has to play the perfect princess role or she’d be kicked out.

The royal family are living on borrowed time, not as many people look up to them anymore. Now the culture is more about equality, we realise they’re not better than us. They are people of average intelligence and below average morality. After all the scandals, we all know they’ve done some terrible things and been associated with some truly awful people. There’s no reason for Catherine and her family to live in such extravagance over any other family.

Tiddlywinky · 09/01/2026 14:57

It's beautiful IMO. Love it.
