Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

It's worth posting a link, particularly if you're starting a thread about a video.

I do apologise

Catherine Birthday Video

For those who think it's easier to annoy you than to Google 'Catherine birthday video' themselves.

We have a record number of people using food banks

The NHS is stuffed (brilliant for her that she has survived cancer, but there are a lot of people whose cancer treatment has been delayed due to lack of capacity - my mum being one of them and we lost her)

Huge numbers of people being laid off - including enormous swathes of NHS staff due to be made redundant in the next 6 months

Kids with empty bellies being taught in cold classrooms

Schools under funded and failing apart

So, yes - ill timed. Or out of touch. Or both.

AGreenWitch · 09/01/2026 16:53

Absolutely ridiculously awful imo. First class wankery. Tone deaf.

Cancer survivor single parent here. Grateful for the first class care I received from the NHS, no time for this guff at all … probably because I had to go back to work pronto.

Catherine has really missed an opportunity here... after a few seconds of beautiful, wintry countryside footage with her saying "nature has helped me to heal" etc, she could then go on to say "so I am very proud to become patron of [charity name] and to support their campaign to develop patients' gardens at 6 inner city hospitals".... or something similar. Then show footage of patients enjoying said gardens, and include link for people to donate.
You're welcome, Ma'am.

Yes! What an amazing idea. Hospitals would be incredible if they had these, even if some patients could only see it from their window, it would be massively beneficial for everyone’s well-being. Even bringing a bit of nature inside with plants and stuff would be better than now. I love this idea @Miranda65

Then there’s schools, colleges, inner city estates - all of them could benefit massively from green spaces that aren’t currently accessible (and certainly not as easily as Catherine has it, where there’s literally acres on her doorstep). I know charities doing this exist but the boost of a royal patronage would help so much.

Let’s hope her PR see your suggestion and run with it.

I find myself reflecting deeply

in peaceful nature

thankful for the simplicity of life and all it brings

such as no washing or ironing to do

my children's school uniforms and sports kits always sorted out for me

nutricious meals cooked by Sven (personal chef)

I have so much time to wander in my acres and get in touch with all the nature around me and thankful it is not a traffic jam or other such nature sucking horror

…and I don’t buy that she didn’t spend at least some of the last month rolling her eyes at elderly relatives or hiding in a cupboard eating Celebrations.

Haha at that link

It was ok. A bit removed. I think people have fairly limited bandwidth for some if the royal or ex royal stuff atm

BatshitCrazyWoman · 09/01/2026 16:57

God, I'd be embarrassed about that, if I were her.

I'm no royalist, but even to me this seems absolute shite.

I'm a cancer survivor, too. Her video is still awful!

Butteredtoast55 · 09/01/2026 17:00

I agree that there are some massive issues people are facing in everyday life and they need to be addressed, but that doesn't mean we can't also try to find a bit of beauty in the world and use it to feed our souls.
Even in deprived areas there are parks, green spaces and elements of nature. Some people, often volunteers, work hard to maintain them and make them available for everyone. It's widely recognised that nature impacts positively on mental health and wellbeing, and the POW obviously believes it does. You wouldn't think that would be controversial but it seems everything is nowadays.
The only jarring bit for me was the big old engagement ring but then there have been enough people picking up on her not wearing it on previous occasions that I can't get worked up about it.

Rosamutabilis · 09/01/2026 17:00

It's neither a class indicator nor a privilege to walk in nature, neither is it constrained by having to go to work, all of which have been suggested on here.

People who work have time off and during that time they could go for a walk and observe nature. It doesn't cost anything to walk in a park where you can see and hear birds and insects, see the changes in leaf cover etc.

Lots of people live rurally or semirurally and have access to paths through fields. If you live in a city or town there will be large parks or you can take a bus out to greener areas.

However, lots of people simply choose not to do those things, but that doesn't mean that easy access nature isn't available for the vast majority of people in this country if they choose. You can sit in your garden and watch birds and plants too( unless it's barren paving and AstroTurf).

Of course she probably filmed it on her vast estates but that doesn't mean that most people couldn't cheaply achieve feelings of peace in nature if they could be bothered. I don't think it's out of touch at all. It's not like she posted a video of her in expensive dresses and dripping with diamonds telling people that's how she feels calm and renewed.

TheToteBagLady · 09/01/2026 17:02

I think it’s dreadful.

I don’t think Queen Elizabeth would have liked or approved of it.

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2026 17:02

FloridaCheese · 09/01/2026 16:45

agree the videography is beautiful. The video and message though, very sickly

very entitled and unnecessary

self indulgent although will have been spear headed by their PR machine

the same machine that only bring things back to cancer to counter anything negative about Catherine

cancer is very widespread. Treatment times slow, treatment options variable depending on your location.

Catherine had preventative chemotherapy. A world away from those going through gruelling combinations of chemo - immuno - radio therapy for stage 3/4 aggressive cancers.

I suspect the PR machine will bring it back to poor Catherine's cancer whenever anyone has an opinion they're don't approve of.

the birthday video is terrible

I don’t believe she had “preventative” chemo. I think (just my opinion) she was very ill and suffered much of what other cancer sufferers go through in their treatment and recovery.

I give her a pass for these videos though they aren’t really my cup of tea, because she’s been through a lot and come out the other side with a new perspective on life.

LizzieSiddal · 09/01/2026 17:07

Lots of shots of a very rich woman wondering around places the public will never ever see. Yes there are a few shots of public places thrown in but the vast majority are places 99.9% of the population will never set foot in.

Nauseating.

jumpingthehighjump · 09/01/2026 17:08

@Rosamutabilis
Why do we need Kate telling us this when it's pretty obvious going out and smelling the roses and touching the grass is something we should all do if we get an opportunity.
I just find it tone deaf that one of the most privileged women in the whole of the UK is wandering around one of her royal Estates and the message is get out and enjoy nature in a sugar coated expensive video.
We're not stupid, we know that! But we lead busy lives bringing up children, commuting to work, running a home, looking after elderly parents, feeding the family... All the things that she does not have to do.
Tone deaf

wordler · 09/01/2026 17:08

I don’t mind this series - the other three haven’t been as focused on her as this one. I actually find it less twee than the one with the family that marked the end of her cancer treatment.

I think it’s good to try something a bit different every now and then when creating content. And I’d say the same about Meghan if she was doing something new too.

andIsaid · 09/01/2026 17:11

Mother Nature - seriously?

A soft voice that guides us as the country is battered by storms?

A soft voice that guides us as we challenge and change it so much we will be destroyed by it?

Wandering through 1,000s of acres to shoot the video but that is not enough Mother Nature - they have to add to what they already own by stealing a further 150 acres from the people? ( Windsor)

The Mother Nature they look after while flying here, there, and everywhere in helicopters, while sending multiple cars to pick them up where they land, so they can play "Let's pretend."

The Mother Nature they look after while doing up house after house after house, on top of the 1,000s of rooms on standby - heated I presume, just in case they visit. In the chopper.

The Mother Nature they look after while going on four or five ski trips a year, or hang out on yachts as big as small cities, or fly to far flung island that have no water, or fly here, there, and every where to watch soccer games? But not when the wimin are playing 'cause Climate change init?

I mean - are they absolutely MAD in how they have decided to frame this crew?

Tulcan · 09/01/2026 17:12

I’ve just seen it on the news. If it wasn’t on the news, I would have thought it was a joke or AI.

Im already a bit put out as someone at work was diagnosed with cancer just before Catherine was and their ‘journey’ for treatment and care really are quite starkly different.

I think if she'd used each of the 4 videos to highlight a charity, or maybe some regional seasonal traditions, it would have been so much more meaningful than a video version of a Hallmark card. As it is, it just comes across as bland, self indulgent and rather pointless.

Boododedoop · 09/01/2026 17:21

I watched the video after reading about it here and as someone who’s had her own experience of cancer I completely understand what she’s saying.

I love the video.

jumpingthehighjump · 09/01/2026 17:22

I agree

I don't think either Kate or William are very good on the promoting a charity aspect. They miss so many opportunities like with this video which was just self indulgent twaddle in my opinion

Rosamutabilis · 09/01/2026 17:24

I don't think some people do know the beneficial effects of nature actually.

Despite having busy lives working, caring for children, cooking etc people do have spare time. But many people choose to spend that time going shopping for leisure, going to the cinema, going bowling, watching TV etc. Maybe they'd feel less pressured if they took their children on a walk in a park or through fields instead, it would cost less too.

Boododedoop · 09/01/2026 17:28

@Rosamutabilis well said.

and on a personal level there’s nothing like a dose of a horrible illness to help you appreciate the wonders of the natural world even more than you did before.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 09/01/2026 17:34

I really like it. I like the message that so much positivity can be found in nature. Nature has always provided solace and spiritual guidance. For those complaining that because lots of people don't have much money her message is irrelevant, the Romantic poets were lifting souls by writing about exactly the same stuff at a time of terrible poverty, urban horribleness and social deprivation. Perhaps if some folk spent more time reflecting on what they are doing then they might find a way to make a more positive contribution to the world than just spewing obscenities and bile on the Internet.

Absolutely, it may be a view or the feel of wind or rain but it does seem different than before.

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 17:51

How very odd that so many of you seem to think this is about the Princess of Wales's illness. The series was launched in May 2025 as a four parter designed to raise awareness around mental health. It's so sad that so many of you are mocking this.
