Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

I don’t believe she had “preventative” chemo. I think (just my opinion) she was very ill and suffered much of what other cancer sufferers go through in their treatment and recovery.

I give her a pass for these videos though they aren’t really my cup of tea, because she’s been through a lot and come out the other side with a new perspective on life.

I agree with the pass. The video is not to my taste, but I think she’s been through a lot this year and it was a personal message released on her birthday. Fair enough. I also think yes they are privileged but a message of healing and positivity could be really useful for many right now now in these polarised times.

How very odd that so many of you seem to think this is about the Princess of Wales's illness. The series was launched in May 2025 as a four parter designed to raise awareness around mental health. It's so sad that so many of you are mocking this.

Edited

If so many did not "geddit" then we can safely say that it is a complete and utter failure.

And how would any of those videos help mental health? They are style over content, utter AI level, Hallmark card type nonsense, and very condescending if pitched as an aide to helping mental health.

Not unlike her husband's "help" for the homeless.

They can have a role but they really should not be playing in those areas.

Honestly! Clearly, the people who work for them are on these threads - folks - you really need to change direction.

This kind of thing is just going to make people very angry - they are too old for these kinds of mistakes.

Poor Kate. I wonder what she thinks about this video

It's supremely twee and a tad self indulgent, but that seems to be Kate's style. Harmless enough I guess, but I don't really see the point of it.

Also, isn't January a bit late for a celebration of winter? Everyone's desperately looking forward to spring now. Seems at least a month too late. I thought the same about the 'autumn' video she released on November 15th, when Christmas was already in the air.

No.
That's actually the one bit I liked about it.
We are in the depths of Winter right now and what's more, we're in the quiet, relaxing bit where all the noise of Christmas is over
We need to slow down and appreciate things instead of celebrating them before they have begun and then champing at the bit for the next thing.
This pretending November (which is Autumn!) is Christmas and January is Spring nonsense needs to end.

I assume it was her silly idea, just like the other awful ones she’s put out recently.

She must think us proles hang on her every meaningless word and find her self indulgent soft focussed wandering inspirational.

You don't think the Wales should be involved in mental health programmes. Why not?

How does a bit of cheesy nonsense about floating round in nature helps anyone's mental health? With an expensively produced set of images of the blessed Catherine herself enjoying some fields and bridges. It's a set of trite clichés with no actual message.

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 18:28

Ouch the truth always hurts, doesn't it ? I'm embarrassed for some of you.

chipsewfast · 09/01/2026 18:30

It's embarrassing that they think we fall for this guff. Like a really bad sales ploy

jeffgoldblum · 09/01/2026 18:31

It’s a well known and widely accepted fact that being outside in nature benefits peoples mental health, prisons are expected to allow inmates access to the outdoors and care facilities and institutions also encourage this practice too.

Exactly. It is well-known. Which is why I can't see why a cheesy video with word salad adds anything to the message.

I think that you are being too generous in your assumption that she has such autonomy.

Boododedoop · 09/01/2026 17:28

@Rosamutabilis well said.

and on a personal level there’s nothing like a dose of a horrible illness to help you appreciate the wonders of the natural world even more than you did before.

I agree but she could have done something so much more meaningful and less self indulgent. It’s all very embarrassing.

Thegala · 09/01/2026 18:39

I thought this, and the other ones are beautiful, showcasing the beautiful British countryside and landscape, Very inoffensive.

yes, if M&H did a similar one, they absolutely rightly would be raked over the coals, considering how they both hate the UK so much.

Meghan did that weird one last January, running barefoot and twirling on the beach, giggling as she wrote 2025 in the sand , numerous times too, because she didn’t get it right first time, so authentic ! Now that was toe curling cringe, even more so now that her 2025 was such a bust for her.

I’m a bit of a royal fan would usually defend them as not doing right for wrong, but I agree this is too saccharine, too forced and slightly nauseating.

I agree, @Bougainsillier.

Not everyone finds it cheesy! , a few posters said it helped them , others liked it .
assuming your opinion only is the correct one is never a good idea.

At least get it right if you are going to say anything. Where did anybody say they hated the UK? Hating being treated to constant lies in the British press is a completely different thing. So get your facts straight at least.

Well obviously. The entirety of MN is people giving their personal opinion, doesn't mean any post thinks their opinion is the only correct one. If we had to caveat every post with that we would need a new acronym for it.

SisterTeatime · 09/01/2026 18:45

It’s massively cringey and self-indulgent, but I suppose the message is essentially true and worthwhile. I also think she sounds sincere in the voiceover.

I’m generally in favour of the RF, but I think the Waleses are becoming increasingly irritating. If I was their comms person (disclaimer - I’m not a comms person at all) I’d be very, very careful with this kind of stuff. Catherine really isn’t very relatable, she may be popular but I think a lot of that is because she doesnt say much.

Wintersgirl · 09/01/2026 18:45

I didn't like the poetic style of the words, fine record yourself walking in nature and how it helps you mentally etc, but don't talk as if you're reading a poem, just speak normally, I didn't like the hand going through the water either it looked a bit silly, I do like Kate but this was a bit naff..

canklesmctacotits · 09/01/2026 18:45

Mostly it’s shockingly but predictably Marie Antoinette. The world is undergoing geopolitical turmoil and violence not seen since WW2, and people are suffering with cancer throughout it all in conditions we wouldn’t wish on anyone (including in the UK, I’m pretty sure). And here we have the future Queen talking about the healing benefits of getting out in nature. America and Russia and China are assembling warheads and ships around the extraordinarily beautiful nature of Greenland as she was posting. I think she should stick to smiling and waving, attending banquets to wine and dine despots so they remain kind to the UK, and not do anything that hasn’t received governmental/diplomatic approval. She’s extremely valuable to the UK, and she and William (and obvs Charles) have an important part to play which will likely become even more important before they want it to, but not with this rubbish. Hopefully this is the end of this series.

GrealishGoddess · 09/01/2026 18:51

Prince Harry, "I generally don't like England that much.", from long before he met Meghan.

“The Duchess of Sussex apparently dislikes the UK so greatly and so enormously that she never, ever wants to return to British soil ever again.”

Yeah, they sound like people who hate the UK, with Harry’s public declarations of acid throwers and stabbers lurking around every corner.

hollytheheroic · 09/01/2026 19:05

I like her, but it's very short-sighted. I thought I would love to live on a country estate where I can go for a stroll round the beautiful grounds and appreciate nature. But it's only a few people who are privileged enough to be able to do that.
