Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

It's worth watching the video, particularly if you're commenting on a Thread about it

It's worth posting a link, particularly if you're starting a thread about a video.

It's funny how the tables have turned in the past 12 months. This time last year many royal threads were very pro Will and Kate and now they are very anti Will and Kate!

RainbowBagels · 09/01/2026 14:59

'My William doesn't need to pay tax-all you need is love/wandering around the woods/kicking up leaves in the park/think about how lucky you are to be alive- to cure your poor mental health/recover from cancer/feel better about living in a bedsit'

rainforestalliance · 09/01/2026 14:59

Not sure ‘Mother Nature’ would like her husband heading off with a gun and blowing birds out of the sky, or killing deer…

good point 😬

Gettingbysomehow · 09/01/2026 15:02

It beats the queen of hearts, now that was meaningless tripe.

Teddleshon1 · 09/01/2026 15:07

She should quit this guff immediately.

Not2identifying · 09/01/2026 15:09

I am generally supportive of the RF and don't like this video. The cinematography is lovely but there's no getting away from the unearned privilege it displays.

I wouldn't have guessed that Kate's personality would be okay with doing this video. I read that a talk she did in November (to business leaders about early childhood) was her first in two years. She's always been 'shy'. I think being private works for her and attempting to share her reflections on nature and the meaning of life with us jars a bit. Both access to nature and one's experience of life are class issues/indicators and she appears to have no awareness of that.

I noticed snowdrops growing on a neighbour's driveway earlier this week and felt a moment of gladness. She could have canvassed British people from around the country to share a moment of connection with nature rather than focusing on her own connection. I'd love to follow her footsteps and spend time in those beautiful places but, instead, I'm on my (late!) lunchbreak in the office. I drove here in the dark and I'll go home in the dark. She just has no idea.

She does have an idea what it is to be a cancer survivor and being around for another season does feel like a privilege to us.

Boudy · 09/01/2026 15:13

Agree op. Lovely to have the time and ( physical space) to be wandering around 'reflecting'.

Not2identifying · 09/01/2026 15:21

@Christmaseree - I accept that people who are living with or who have survived cancer may have a different reaction than I did (I haven't ever had a diagnosis myself but have close family who have). She probably wants this video to 'land' with both groups.

I don't she means to rub her privilege in our faces. I can accept, at face value, that she thinks she's doing a nice thing, sharing the things that matter most to her with us, especially when, as I said, she's likely to be inclined towards being private rather than public.

They are pushing Catherine so hard.

It's because The Queen has gone, and they know Queen Camilla will never be loved by the British people, sadly. So they need a mother of the nation and they are going to push Catherine hard into that role so by the time she becomes Queen, they've got a nice, secure Mother/Grandmother of the nation right there and they will feel safe.

It’s so transparent and such a burden for her.

Raisondeetre · 09/01/2026 15:35

ElegantFowl · 09/01/2026 14:35

They must think we’re idiots. The absolute arrogance of thinking we want a highly produced soft focus video with a naff, nonsensical voiceover as our gift on her birthday. So relatable!

I think they’re trying to play Meghan at her own game and looking just as crass , out of touch and entitled.

PoohneedsaPimms · 09/01/2026 15:47

Walking in nature is beneficial for mental health and costs nothing. I personally found this video comforting and uplifting as I am experiencing MH issues. Each to their own…

jumpingthehighjump · 09/01/2026 15:52

I'm beginning to think she is trolling us! I've never seen such a load of bunkum.

Walking across the bridge (I'm shouting to her... "don't throw yourself off love"). A hand in the water with a humungous ring on it.. staring into space etc. And I bet all this will have been done on one of the many royal estates. Maybe the new one? It has 150 acres after all.

Leave it out Kate... this is getting ridiculous these videos. It's embarrassing.

SpinelessBastardsAll · 09/01/2026 16:03

What on earth is she going on about? It's embarrassing.

Miranda65 · 09/01/2026 16:18

Catherine has really missed an opportunity here... after a few seconds of beautiful, wintry countryside footage with her saying "nature has helped me to heal" etc, she could then go on to say "so I am very proud to become patron of [charity name] and to support their campaign to develop patients' gardens at 6 inner city hospitals".... or something similar. Then show footage of patients enjoying said gardens, and include link for people to donate.
You're welcome, Ma'am.

It’s the fourth in a series of four, completing the suite. You can all calm down, there probably won’t be any more.

IcedPurple · 09/01/2026 16:24

It's supremely twee and a tad self indulgent, but that seems to be Kate's style. Harmless enough I guess, but I don't really see the point of it.

Also, isn't January a bit late for a celebration of winter? Everyone's desperately looking forward to spring now. Seems at least a month too late. I thought the same about the 'autumn' video she released on November 15th, when Christmas was already in the air.

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2026 16:28

We’ve had snow in March in recent years, I think the timing’s about right!

Iamacatslave · 09/01/2026 16:30

Mother Nature, my arse!

Not2identifying · 09/01/2026 16:31

I don't mind the timing - lots of people find Jan/Feb the toughest winter months.

I thought @Miranda65's plan would have been much better.

Ohpleeeease · 09/01/2026 16:37

I’ve just watched it, I think the videography is beautiful. I don’t mind the voiceover, it’s contemplative and is an expression of how Catherine is feeling, at peace and glad to be alive. Good for her.

'Probably'

Bet there will

FloridaCheese · 09/01/2026 16:45

agree the videography is beautiful. The video and message though, very sickly

very entitled and unnecessary

self indulgent although will have been spear headed by their PR machine

the same machine that only bring things back to cancer to counter anything negative about Catherine

cancer is very widespread. Treatment times slow, treatment options variable depending on your location.

Catherine had preventative chemotherapy. A world away from those going through gruelling combinations of chemo - immuno - radio therapy for stage 3/4 aggressive cancers.

I suspect the PR machine will bring it back to poor Catherine's cancer whenever anyone has an opinion they're don't approve of.

the birthday video is terrible
