Kate's birthday video "Mother Nature"

The PR machine is pushing Catherine as being the Queen of Nature, so wholesome and pure, and ending the video with "Mother Nature" just seems so forced to me.

I'm not really sure why she would release a 90 second video of this nature. Anyone else?

I agree but she could have done something so much more meaningful and less self indulgent. It’s all very embarrassing.

Edited

How is it self indulgent? She doesn't talk about her own life.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/01/2026 19:07

Catherine really isn’t very relatable, she may be popular but I think a lot of that is because she doesnt say much

I don't disagree, @SisterTeatime, although in fairness most of the RF do better when they keep their mouths shut and their activities out of the public eye

The cringy video didn't bother me one way or the other, but it's when more serious things spill out, deliberately or otherwise, that things tend to go a bit pear shaped

MrsLeonFarrell · 09/01/2026 18:53

She been releasing videos like this for over a year on Instagram. Not my thing but it's her page.

It's one of a four parter as I said before. It ties in with each of the seasons 🙄

I like her, but it's very short-sighted. I thought I would love to live on a country estate where I can go for a stroll round the beautiful grounds and appreciate nature. But it's only a few people who are privileged enough to be able to do that.

That's true about life in general isn't it? I don't have a beautiful home in the Hamptons but that doesn't stop me from appreciating other things that are out there especially when it is part of a campaign. Would you say that Meghan and Harry's participation in charitable themes are also short sighted because they live in a mansion? Do we only listen to people who live in cardboard boxes?

LadyKenya · 09/01/2026 19:11

Thegala · 09/01/2026 19:03

Prince Harry, "I generally don't like England that much.", from long before he met Meghan.

“The Duchess of Sussex apparently dislikes the UK so greatly and so enormously that she never, ever wants to return to British soil ever again.”

Yeah, they sound like people who hate the UK, with Harry’s public declarations of acid throwers and stabbers lurking around every corner.

Did she say that, or is it some headline that you read somewhere, and had no problem swallowing? This thread is about Catherine anyway, but some one had to bring up Meghan didn't they? She is out of the royal circus, stop bringing her up fgs.

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 19:13

Are you the thread police @LadyKenya? I will bring up whatever I feel is relevant. The theme is the same - puzzled you can't see that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/01/2026 19:13

@Thegala, the full quote, made in 2008 while Harry was in Afghanistan, was "I generally don't like England that much and, you know, it's nice to be away from all the press and the papers and all the general shite that they write"

He'd have done better to say he didn't like England because of the media hassle, or even to speak of the media as a separate issue, but as always that would have taken some judgement and he appears not to have any

Mostly it’s shockingly but predictably Marie Antoinette. The world is undergoing geopolitical turmoil and violence not seen since WW2, and people are suffering with cancer throughout it all in conditions we wouldn’t wish on anyone (including in the UK, I’m pretty sure). And here we have the future Queen talking about the healing benefits of getting out in nature. America and Russia and China are assembling warheads and ships around the extraordinarily beautiful nature of Greenland as she was posting. I think she should stick to smiling and waving, attending banquets to wine and dine despots so they remain kind to the UK, and not do anything that hasn’t received governmental/diplomatic approval. She’s extremely valuable to the UK, and she and William (and obvs Charles) have an important part to play which will likely become even more important before they want it to, but not with this rubbish. Hopefully this is the end of this series.

ummmm there's 4 seasons ...

jumpingthehighjump · 09/01/2026 19:15

Let's just see if there's any more of this sort of footage.

I have a feeling it's going to become the norm.

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 19:15

SisterTeatime · 09/01/2026 18:45

It’s massively cringey and self-indulgent, but I suppose the message is essentially true and worthwhile. I also think she sounds sincere in the voiceover.

I’m generally in favour of the RF, but I think the Waleses are becoming increasingly irritating. If I was their comms person (disclaimer - I’m not a comms person at all) I’d be very, very careful with this kind of stuff. Catherine really isn’t very relatable, she may be popular but I think a lot of that is because she doesnt say much.

What would make her more relatable would you say?

Pallisers · 09/01/2026 19:16

What on earth were they thinking with that video?

jumpingthehighjump · 09/01/2026 19:16

Not these videos.

Hast she done the other ones?

redmangyfox · 09/01/2026 19:17

Well that's not very constructive is it ? Can you expand?

That simply isn't true. You don't have to live in or even visit a stately home to walk in nature. You can find trees, birds, wildlife in a park or in a field. There are numerous places to be in nature whether you live in a city or the countryside. That's the point. Nature is easily available to all if you choose.

Mollydoggerson · 09/01/2026 19:20

She really needs to get a job.

Teddleshon1 · 09/01/2026 19:21

The UK has the best access to nature for all of pretty much country.

Aethelredtheunsteady · 09/01/2026 19:22

Seems a bit rich to put out a video talking about how important access to nature is when her new home has led to the closure of a children's environmental centre (and the closure of vast swathes of green space to the public).

Same as the lecturing the rest of us on environmental matters whilst simultaneously using a helicopter for short flights and hunting. Or using domestic violence and trafficking charities for PR whilst paying off the victims and protecting abusers.

But I'm sure people will tie themselves into pretzels to defend them whilst ripping Meghan Markle apart for selling jam.

An unelected family being given huge amounts of power, privilege and luxury purely due to accident of birth has no place in modern Britain, but I appreciate that's not necessarily a popular view on mumsnet.

LadyKenya · 09/01/2026 19:22

Pallisers · 09/01/2026 19:16

To make her seem relatable to people, to encourage people to get out in nature. Who knows, it is all part of the royal pr machine though, if nothing else.

That's it - choosing is the point. There are certain groups of people who put no value on it and are not involved in it. It's all about the latest big SUV or trendy sweatshirt that is " in". Possessions are all some people value.

Don't you think with everything going on in the world it's important to find time to be quiet and calm? Being in nature is proven to be beneficial for mental well-being, so in difficult times it's likely to be even more important.
We get enough of all the awful things happening from the news, why shouldn't she put out a video of our beautiful British countryside saying how good it feels to be in it?

Aethelredtheunsteady · 09/01/2026 19:25

And even the video is half arsed and focussed on shots of her looking pretty. She could have given us the locations to help boost tourism, focussed on environmental and wildlife charities (or charities like Open Country) which might boost donations (although there's no evidence a royal patron actually increases charitable donations).

Again you've missed the point of the original statement. I can see people would wonder if they don't know the bigger picture or are not informed of it.

threesocksmorgan · 09/01/2026 19:26

jeffgoldblum · 09/01/2026 18:31

It’s a well known and widely accepted fact that being outside in nature benefits peoples mental health, prisons are expected to allow inmates access to the outdoors and care facilities and institutions also encourage this practice too.

True
but why do we need a rich privileged person walking around, no doubt private land? Bizarre in the extreme.
