Harry Says His Fight Against Tabloids Is a 'Central Piece' of Rift with the Royal Family

Is there anyone in the public eye more delusional and lacking in self-awareness than Harry?

The Duke of Sussex, 39, sat down for a new interview for ITV's documentary Tabloids on Trial, premiering on Thursday, July 25. In a preview released a day before the airing, Harry discussed his reasons for publicly pursuing lawsuits against publications over allegations of phone hacking and other unlawful acts — a contrast from his brother, Prince William, who reportedly quietly received a "very large sum of money" in a settlement from News Group Newspapers (NGN) in 2020 amid a claimed "secret agreement" with the royals.
ITV's Rebecca Barry asked Prince Harry in the clip, "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?"
"I think that's certainly a central piece to it," the Duke of Sussex replied. "That's a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press."
"I've made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family," he continued. "I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you're in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I'm doing this for my reasons."

Prince Harry Takes Aim at Tabloid Phone Hacking in New Sit-Down Interview for Documentary

Prince Harry will be featured in "Tabloids on Trial," a new documentary about phone hacking from ITV premiering on July 25, alongside Hugh Grant and more.

I just think it's such a non argument.

Of course they are all going to complain about the media.

Why wouldn't they.

Every celebrity complains about the media. Paparazzi are annoying. No one enjoys being followed when going about your private day

You’ve obviously not seen JLo on her jaunts around the Hamptons then, riding a bike in a dior gown with her glam squad.

Some love it, some hate it. They all ruthlessly use it

Abigail47 · 08/08/2024 18:24

Why are you getinng so angry about people complaining about the media though.

Is it not a minor thing to do? Your reaction is a bit over the top.

Youre acting like he killed someone.

Edited

No, I’m trying to pin you down on your sweeping statement that he gave “loads” of interviews. When did I get angry about people’s complaining about the media? You are making shite up 😂

MummyJ12 · 08/08/2024 19:03

It’s that word again isn’t it. Hate. A word so banded about by supporters of the Sussexes to shut down conversations. Yet it’s completely fine to vilify members of the Royal Family such as the King and Queen.

As JK Rowling quoted. Truth is not hate.

@Applecidervinegar641

I am one of those posters, so will post my comment again below, it’s you being disingenuous that makes me feel that way, constantly claiming you are not a Harry and Meghan fan which you so clearly are, just own it.

I was referring to all of the threads and endless hatred towards H & M, picking apart everything they do. Dare I say, to my eyes anyway, it’s a bit odd considering they stepped away from the RF in 2020 and it’s 2024 now

It’s not odd at all, I have an interest in anything royal, what is odd is you, who claims to not be a fan or a supporter of H&M take time out of your day to argue and write very lengthy posts defending 2 people you claim to not care about with strangers over the Internet whilst describing what we write as hatred, it’s very hard to see you as someone who posts in good faith.

I don’t want to start a big back and forth because they are boring and annoying for everyone else. But why is absolutely no nuance allowed on here?

You are either a M and H supporter that means you are apparently a member of the Sussex Squad and automatically hate everything that the RF do and automatically love everything H & M do!

Most people can understand the concept that there may be faults on both sides and neither side are all good or all bad! I’m quite old and that has been my experience of life in general. Isn’t it yours?

Yes I do have genuine sympathy for Harry and Meghan. What’s wrong with that? Not for everything they have done but I can imagine how their situation came about. And I am particularly interested in what really went on with certain press transactions that potentially led to the original rift.

A family member who works in a very local grass roots charity, also had a very positive experience of Meghan who donated a personal cheque to their cause with little to no fanfare. It was reported in the local newspaper and no where else and I thought that was odd. I can only conclude that there was obviously some unwritten ban operating at the time that didn’t allow any positive stories being printed about her in the major news outlets. And that made me think that maybe certain things are being spun in a particular way and that was unfair.

I don’t feel I should have to justify my reasons for posting tbh but I hope that satisfies you!

And sorry but I don’t think “hatred” is too strong a word. I have seen negative comments on this board about Meghan’s appearance, her character, her marriage, her business, her parenting decisions, her family relations and her taste in home decor and if that is not hatred then I don’t know what is!

I think it has all got a bit unhinged. You may not like me stating that but it’s my opinion.

You said you're not angry.

Then you wrote

"Youre making shite up".

Eh that's kind of an aggressive thing to say no?

Do you have anger issues?

No truth is not hate.

But multiple negative comments on sm about one woman adds up to hate imho.

I am not aware that the SS use that argument to shut down debate because I do not follow them or know anything about them.

I used the word hate because I reached that opinion all on my own thanks!

I can’t wait for the following:

Colombian Tour
Netflix show hosted by Meghan
To buy her products from ARO

☺️

Were you on the Princess Catherine threads? That was certainly unhinged. Absolutely vile.
The only comment that I have read about their marriage on here lately was by a supporter of them. The post received no responses.
The threads about her appearance are positive threads. Her business decisions are quite rightly discussed. If they weren’t so insistent about being in the public domain, planting stories, paying for PR, buying awards and launching all of these half hearted and not thought through projects. Not to mention Harry using more and more of tax payers money with his ridiculous court case regarding the RAVEC decision, then people would not have anything to have an opinion on and discuss, They are literally non-stop with it all.

MummyJ12 · 08/08/2024 19:18

I did not post anything about the SS @Applecidervinegar641. Interesting.

That was a very nice gesture on Meghan’s part but there’s no reason why it would be reported, any more than similar gestures made by other members of the royal family would be. This sort of thing happens all the time. It’s only odd that you think there should have been some sort of fanfare because it’s Meghan.

I don't think it's the case that there are two distinct sides, and that if you "support" the RF, therefore you criticise the Sussexes because of that.

THis is a predominantly British site, and many of us have been following and commenting on both family and institution for years.

And that criticism does not arise from (imaginary) partisanship, but as spontaneous reaction to latest words/deeds/publications.

So if William were acting as if he were the expert on homelessness then I would be agreeing with criticism of him for doing that. However what he is actually doing is being the one who highlights the issue, puts a new impetus to joined-up working amongst major players including 6 new pilot projects, and showcases the achievements of others. That I applaud.

The Sussexes, via Archewell, have made several grants to worthy organisations, and that is to be commended. I am far less persuaded by the tone of their public speaking, which lacks the depth that comes from long (or detailed/expert) engagement abd which also does not seem to showcase those who really do make a difference.

For example, the Duchess of Edinburgh has been working with charities and other organisations that seek to counter VAWG, FGM and rape as a tool of war. She is now respected for her knowledge, and how she can bring attention to the issue and those working on the issue in the countries she visits, such as Sudan and Colombia. The Sussexes will only get that respect in the same way as her and others, by that lengthy (years, decades) lead-in which builds both expertise and credibility.

They still come across as superficial/scattergun. That might change over time, as people see achievement. It won't come from just assertion

Really good post. 🙂

I was surprised that, at a time when Meghan was in the news an awful lot, that no major tabloid or paper, or news reporting site picked it up.

And yes that’s quite possible about other members of the RF but they weren’t in the middle of a media storm at the time.

MNHQ moderate very well IMO. At least this is a valid and relevant discussion. I’m not aware of many posts breaking talk guidelines and being deleted. Hence the thread stands.
The Princess Catherine threads were on another level. So much so that many posters have since disappeared. Others have name changed in shame!

I said the volume of anti-Meghan, and Harry for that matter, on every subject under the sun, and I said “has all got a bit unhinged”

Presumably you can understand the difference?

I’m also a little offended @Rosiecheeksandacoldnose that we have discussed some deeply personal issues on this thread, me included. We have supported one another amongst the debate. It’s certainly not a vile thread.
