Harry Says His Fight Against Tabloids Is a 'Central Piece' of Rift with the Royal Family

Is there anyone in the public eye more delusional and lacking in self-awareness than Harry?

The Duke of Sussex, 39, sat down for a new interview for ITV's documentary Tabloids on Trial, premiering on Thursday, July 25. In a preview released a day before the airing, Harry discussed his reasons for publicly pursuing lawsuits against publications over allegations of phone hacking and other unlawful acts — a contrast from his brother, Prince William, who reportedly quietly received a "very large sum of money" in a settlement from News Group Newspapers (NGN) in 2020 amid a claimed "secret agreement" with the royals.
ITV's Rebecca Barry asked Prince Harry in the clip, "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?"
"I think that's certainly a central piece to it," the Duke of Sussex replied. "That's a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press."
"I've made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family," he continued. "I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you're in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I'm doing this for my reasons."

Prince Harry Takes Aim at Tabloid Phone Hacking in New Sit-Down Interview for Documentary

Prince Harry will be featured in "Tabloids on Trial," a new documentary about phone hacking from ITV premiering on July 25, alongside Hugh Grant and more.

I’m just going to be blunt because I need to get on with my day, but I think the real reason people are picking holes in H & M’s overseas visits is not really to do with content, because their causes are all very worthwhile,

I think its more because they think it is some sort of effrontery to the RF that H & M would “dare” to go and arrange trips on their own, now they are no longer part of “the firm”.

But Harry hasn’t been brought up to do anything but charity work. He was very good at it too. Meghan did a lot of charity work before she even met Harry. It seems totally natural to me that they would carry on doing that now. They wanted to do charity work within the enclave of the RF, but when that didn’t work out, they are carrying on doing it on their own. It makes total sense to me anyway!

The difference being that William doesn't do tv interviews as if he was an expert on homelessness, or anything else, and can speak from a position of authority.
On the contrary, he is taking advice and informing himself about the issue.

Well I don’t think that’s much different to any members of the RF tbh.

You could say that William going to support homelessness charities when he has three or four lovely homes himself is a bit anachronistic. And yes he has slept overnight on town hall steps and good for him but it’s a bit different when you know you are going back to a palace that night. William can’t know the full experience of what it is to be homeless but few of us here doubt his sincerity towards the cause. He is doing really good things in that area.

There is a huge problem with sm and on-line bullying and the tech giants aren’t doing enough about it. I am sure Columbia is no different to any country in that regard. H & M were with qualified experts in Nigeria who accompanied them on their visits or were resident at the places they visited and I am sure it will be the same in Columbia.

And H and M certainly have extensive and first hand experience of on-line bullying.

I think everyone needs to calm down tbh.

It’s not all RF = good
M & H = bad

There’s room for both, and good for H & M for doing something productive.

So you quote my post but ignore every point in it and drag up something else about other members of the RF

H and M are irresponsibly approaching a very sensitive subject and they are rightly being called out for it. They are not trained to deal with or even talk about these things. The Samaritans give guidance and advice to Tv networks on how to just talk about it sensitively because it’s so important to get right. This clearly isn’t being done here.

They're not doing it for charity 🙄

And H and M certainly have extensive and first hand experience of on-line bullying.

They certainly have first hand experience of supporting the Sussex Squad and reportedly using paid PR (via the likes of Bouzy and others) to promote their causes and to attack other royals (especially Catherine and William) online.

When the online attacks on Catherine reached their peak a few months ago, a succession of celebrities from Harry and Meghan’s own agency WME (John Oliver, Stephen Colbert among others) were spearheading the ‘Where is Kate?’ Nastiness. Coincidence? I think not.

Do we have solid evidence that they support the Sussex Squad? Honestly, they probably don’t speak out on the subject because they want to distance themselves from a bunch of nutters! And they wouldn’t want to give them any credibility by speaking to them.

And let’s just say that I think the RF has been known to use PR operatives who leak stories to spin them a certain way.

It’s too rigid imho to say all the faults are one way or another. That’s not how rl works generally speaking.

BemusedAmerican · 03/08/2024 11:56

@Applecidervinegar641 They have been publicly photographed posing and greeting known SS members in the US, UK, and Nigeria.

Well it is, because the royals will only work with organisations which have been vetted, and are usually there to highlight the work of those organisations rather than claiming to be authorities in the subject themselves. They also work on behalf of the monarchy, not themselves. The Sussexes have no offical role, despite their attempts to imply otherwise.

Secondly, 4 years after the finding of freedom, isn't it odd to compare them to the royals? I thought they rejected all that?

I think everyone needs to calm down tbh.

Who is not being 'calm'?

People disagreeing with your evasive posts does not equate to a lack of 'calm'.

I think the difference between William and the homelessness campaign is that he doesn’t preach about it or make out that he’s some kind of expert.

MummyJ12 · 03/08/2024 12:23

I think many of us are more concerned about the agenda of Harry and Meghan with this. There is always something in it for them. In this case I believe it’s because they want censorship and to be able to control what is put out there about them.

I disagree that there’s been an over reaction to this. It’s such a complex issue and there’s a reason why GPs can’t prescribe antidepressants for children and anyone under 18. Children’s mental health absolutely needs advocacy and I’m not critical of that. It’s how they speak about it as though they are the experts in this area. Preaching about it but yet clearly do not know anything about the subject. It’s also only just been picked up as one of their missions because it didn’t go down well when they were speaking of themselves all of the time and how social media has affected them, so they’ve chosen the smoke and mirrors of “it’s about the children” to garner attention and more support. IMO.

Yes, they are in regular contact. Telephone calls, visits and taking members with them to St Paul’s, Germany and Nigeria.
Peace Adetoro regularly travels with them. She recently crowd funded the Sussex Squad to raise 50k for Invictus.

Yes there is absolute solid evidence, plus their commander in chief Christopher Bouzy is a friend of H&M plus he has worked on their behalf and appeared in their Netflix documentary.

Theinflictuswithrictusgames · 03/08/2024 12:32

The Sussex Squad were thanked in a Sentebale report/document.

Twistybranch · 03/08/2024 12:32

Didn’t Bouzy state Catherine was aging in banana years?

If we have managed to join the dots, you can bet the RF know even more about this.

Which is why there will never be a reconciliation. H & M’s scheming has been unforgivable.

Surely the best way to distance themselves would be to issue a statement from their 'office' putting it on the record that they were in no way affiliated with the 'squad' which bore the title they are so proud of? To the extent of creating a website from a pretend 'Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex'?

If I were a high profile person and a squad of of toxic nutters were using my title to post all sorts of nastiness, I would certainly want to make it abundantly clear that they were not doing so in my name. Much more so if I was setting myself up as an authority on online bullying.

Wouldn't you?

Yes absolutely.

If we have managed to join the dots, you can bet the RF know even more about (Bouzy's connection with H&M)

Considering the influence they wield and the advisors they can afford I've not the least doubt that the RF know a great deal more than the rest of us about any number of issues, and that they'll use that knowledge in ways and at times that best suit themselves

In this they're not unlike the media, the difference being that - in theory at least - the media can be held accountable for what they do
