Harry Says His Fight Against Tabloids Is a 'Central Piece' of Rift with the Royal Family

Is there anyone in the public eye more delusional and lacking in self-awareness than Harry?

The Duke of Sussex, 39, sat down for a new interview for ITV's documentary Tabloids on Trial, premiering on Thursday, July 25. In a preview released a day before the airing, Harry discussed his reasons for publicly pursuing lawsuits against publications over allegations of phone hacking and other unlawful acts — a contrast from his brother, Prince William, who reportedly quietly received a "very large sum of money" in a settlement from News Group Newspapers (NGN) in 2020 amid a claimed "secret agreement" with the royals.
ITV's Rebecca Barry asked Prince Harry in the clip, "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?"
"I think that's certainly a central piece to it," the Duke of Sussex replied. "That's a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press."
"I've made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family," he continued. "I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you're in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I'm doing this for my reasons."

Agreed. He has a completely new life with nothing of the old. That must be destabilising.

Even small rituals are gone. He was known to go down the pub with mates- doesn’t drink anymore because meghan thought it wasn’t healthy. But social drinking in your local pub, is a positive and healthy thing.

All his friends from childhood have gone but not only that, his friends were all from aristo families. They know how to keep quiet because it would affect their families standing in society if they leaked info. He’s now in Cali so he really can’t trust anyone. Will will make him even more paranoid. So the cycle continues and his MH gets worse

This is really true. I keep thinking that if a woman came on here and said that her DH was estranged from all but one of his family, and that since meeting him she had cut herself off from most of her family and her friends, and had stopped doing most of what she had previously enjoyed, people would be talking about red flags.

Theinflictuswithrictusgames · 29/07/2024 20:22

They would be saying there are red flags if a man was constantly laying his hands on his wife, guiding hier and controlling her with his hands. But we are just meant to find this supportive and romantic in a woman.

Totally agree with this. I honestly think that he thought he and meghan simply couldn't be done without and the palace would cave for him in the end. He still comes across as almost speechless with shock as to how it's all turned out.
It's clear to me that he does find thr 'ignoring' difficult to bear and so he pokes the bear to try and get any reaction and engagement from his family with more interviews and 'explanations' .

All so sad really : they are both so isolated , ( him in particular) from all he has ever known.

@Crazycrazylady I think that he’s the only one who’s isolated, Meghan’s returned home with a title, global recognition and money. She’s fine.

As a fellow Brit who moved to the US over 10 years ago, I certainly need my old friends and family in the UK, they’re part of my identity. I don’t personally know any immigrants who don’t maintain ties to their families and old friends. Luckily, today’s technology makes it easy.

Not before time. I’ve been away and not really been on so have missed a lot of what’s been happening.

Just read this. No apology for it being from the DM .

Vespanest · 31/07/2024 17:09

@Mylovelygreendress taking if with a pinch of salt but Harry is not making it easy. Two separate times since visiting Charles, Harry has decided to include his family in interviews and both interviews that were clearly pre approved questions and he could have easily avoided talking about them.

Mylovelygreendress · 31/07/2024 17:13

Understand @Vespanest . It was the “ sources close to the Prince” that caught my eye as both H and M are well known for making information available in this style .
I think he is trying to embarrass KC into responding.

Lots of articles in the proH&M American press in the last few days all arguing that Harry should get his (what they term) police bodyguard back. A big PR push on this currently from Montecito

Wellieswithsocks · 31/07/2024 17:20

Mylovelygreendress · 31/07/2024 16:59

If that is true, Harry really needs to back off. These ‘friends’ squealing to the tabloids aren’t doing him any favours.

Twistybranch · 31/07/2024 17:30

Hmmmmmm me think Harry’s been told the chances of winning his appeal are slim so is putting out the PR now

Scobie per chance?

I doubt he has many real friends left. It's possibly Scobie.

Twistybranch · 31/07/2024 17:34

The people piece is full of manipulations.

For example- his private bodyguard firm stating that the British government acknowledges that there is a threat but that they aren’t being made privy to this pertinent info

Well if course not!private bodyguards aren’t going to get clearance from British Intelligence ffs . If there was any info, this would be dealt with by the authorities and if the threat was in America but the British had info- then they would contact their intelligence counterparts….not some part time personal trainer/part time bodyguard!

The article is full of crap like this

Vespanest · 31/07/2024 17:38

@Wellieswithsocks i don’t think Harry can back off, I know the message is supposedly they are “winning” but the amount of money being spent on PR and the amount of leaks (known and unknown) is not the actions of winning but more of desperation. For all the exposure I’m missing how they are creating wealth, if anything this year seems to be more expenses. I don’t think they have the wealth for long term security even with his inheritance

Twistybranch · 31/07/2024 17:40

The other ‘exclusive’ article in People is Meghan saying she wants Harry to give up the lawsuits.

Both of these together makes me think that Harry has been told his chances of success are low

So when he loses, the illusion that’s he is stepping back for his family sake will be the new narrative.

She's looking more like Wallis Simpson with every pic particularly with the severe hair do. I wonder if they style themselves on the other royal exiles?

Vespanest · 31/07/2024 18:09

I noticed in the people magazine that is stating he wants metropolitan police protection for himself and family and then mentions Princess Diana death, this is different framing than wanting protection on UK visits. At least the article recognises that it’s not Charles to give.

Nosummerontheagenda · 31/07/2024 18:17

He seems to be so thick he doesn’t realise Diana died in France.

Twistybranch · 31/07/2024 18:19

It’s all about that IPP status. He can’t bare that it no longer applies.
He really needs to be able to come to terms that he can’t control the British Gov/taxpayer or indeed the press.
If he does though, what on earth is left? It seems he has formed some sort of trauma bond with Meghan that he is out to protect her, but it’s all in his mind. Works in her favour though, because it means she never has to make an excuse as to why she can’t make family events in the UK.

When he finally realises its futile- he will struggle with his role in the family. Hereto he has been some sort of knight in shining armour…but he’s fighting his own shadow

pearlfritillary · 31/07/2024 18:23

I cannot work out what Harry's endgame is here re him vs RAVEC. Clearly his security costs, outside of the UK are, probably, pricey.

Having said that, I don't know what level of security he really needs in Montecito - other A listers seem to live their lives without being followed by swarms of security staff.

Harry and his family do get security allocated when they visit the UK - all Harry has been asked to do is give notice so that risk, and therefore level of security required, can be assessed in advance.

Why do people insist on making nasty comments like this? Whatever you think of H, is it really necessary?

I know you are making a point about RAVEC’s area of jurisdiction but it’s an extremely cheap one given the circumstances.
