Harry Says His Fight Against Tabloids Is a 'Central Piece' of Rift with the Royal Family

Is there anyone in the public eye more delusional and lacking in self-awareness than Harry?

The Duke of Sussex, 39, sat down for a new interview for ITV's documentary Tabloids on Trial, premiering on Thursday, July 25. In a preview released a day before the airing, Harry discussed his reasons for publicly pursuing lawsuits against publications over allegations of phone hacking and other unlawful acts — a contrast from his brother, Prince William, who reportedly quietly received a "very large sum of money" in a settlement from News Group Newspapers (NGN) in 2020 amid a claimed "secret agreement" with the royals.
ITV's Rebecca Barry asked Prince Harry in the clip, "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed the relationship with your family?"
"I think that's certainly a central piece to it," the Duke of Sussex replied. "That's a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press."
"I've made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we did it as a family," he continued. "I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you're in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. But I'm doing this for my reasons."

Prince Harry Takes Aim at Tabloid Phone Hacking in New Sit-Down Interview for Documentary

Prince Harry will be featured in "Tabloids on Trial," a new documentary about phone hacking from ITV premiering on July 25, alongside Hugh Grant and more.

I agree that his MH probably is fragile right now, possibly because he’s isolated. He’s estranged from most of his family and old friends, and he doesn’t have any clear goals or pathways forward. I doubt that he’s made many new friends, because famous people are now concerned that he’ll blab and he in turn is probably paranoid about less famous people. Not a great situation.

The ‘new’ friends will be parasites who are only interested because it suits them . Fame and money are what he’s living for now. Genuine relationships are a rare thing in those circles. It’s scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.

@Twistybranch Your comment made me think of the film “King Ralph” with John Goodman. 🤣

The annual will they / won’t they visit Balmoral is in full swing . Apparently, Meghan wants a summit at Balmoral where KC and the rest of the RF can apologise to her !
trying - and failing- to visualise this !

This is all invented bollocks

(silly season)

Looking at other threads on here tonight, the positive UK PR push is in overdrive 😜

I wanted to look at the other threads but
the Tabloids on Trial thread has been deleted.

Such a shame as there were some excellent posts and links on there that were positive and kind about H & M and frankly that makes such a change.

There were also some interesting theories about what lay at the heart of the rift too.

How come a thousand anti H & M threads like this one don't get deleted? And that one, which was actually about hideous tabloid malpractice does get deleted?

I know the RF board must keep moderators busy, so I understand why deletions are made, but I hope one faction is not deliberately breaking guidelines to make this happen?

It’s also important that a range of views are represented.

Edited

All the deletions were of posts made by new “positive” posters, which suggests that perhaps they were contravening guidelines in some way 🤷‍♀️

Gorgonemilezola · 29/07/2024 17:55

Welcome, Applecidervinegar641. The threads were probably deleted, as have many posts been deleted, because the posters were bad actors, repeating name changers and the like. The faction being deleted are the ones breaking guidelines. The mods will delete posts/threads that continually break guidelines. That should tell you a lot about the posters.

MummyJ12 · 29/07/2024 17:56

I wasn’t on that thread but I’m assuming that it is because these posters are not genuine users of the site. Everyone is getting fed up of this. The situation has been escalating for a while and I am glad the MNHQ are making a stand against it and acting accordingly. It’s a constant daily battle keeping up with the name changes and “new” posters. MN is for all of us, but it’s apparent that what is going on here is not in the spirit of the platform.

Absolutely this, the huge amount of “new” posters who post with a particular agenda, always at the same time of day and with a shift change in the early hours.

The Megan positivity thread was deleted too

I don’t understand what qualifies as a genuine poster exactly as I thought Mumsnet was accessible to all, and I thought you were allowed to name change on here? I name change very regularly for example and have done since hacking incidents.

Obviously personal attacks are out of order but I didnt read it right up to deletion.

I am probably breaking guidelines myself now by mentioning another thread within a thread
so I will leave it there. Thx again.

The Megan positivity thread was deleted too

That’s very interesting, I read the first page but it was very sugary sweet so just left them to it.

Twistybranch · 29/07/2024 18:21

It said that the OP was a banned poster and they were taking the thread down

Uricon2 · 29/07/2024 18:23

None of the pro RF posters (who are on the whole not namechangers) are going to get MN to delete posts/ entire threads just because we disagree with the opinions voiced. I for one didn't really look hard at either thread, didn't post and certainly didn't report anything.

Perhaps MNHQ can see patterns, bad faith namechanges etc that some of us suspect but can't prove.

Twistybranch · 29/07/2024 18:25

And the meghan and Harry about in monticeito thread had multiple posters deleted today and they were the same names that were on the positivity thread last night.

Twistybranch · 29/07/2024 18:27

Yeh, it’s the same names that were on the thread last night that were deleted today on another thread. So they’ve been able to spot them.

Also the posts are the same- effusive banalities, posting old images and then adding emojis. There’s no conversation. So perhaps they are worried its bots?

Mylovelygreendress · 29/07/2024 18:33

Twistybranch · 29/07/2024 18:16

That was nauseating.

'I don’t understand what qualifies as a genuine poster exactly as I thought Mumsnet was accessible to all, and I thought you were allowed to name change on here? I name change very regularly for example and have done since hacking incidents.'

I think it's probably just the sheer volume of new posters who arrive at MN, a parenting site (I know there's a lot more to I than that) and plop and run on the rf threads. I'm sure MN see more 'background' and can see what's happening.

Not all of them, smilesy - I had my first deletion in years for suggesting exactly what you and others just have, because apparently it was deemed "troll hunting"

I hadn't realised HQ had said the OP was a PBP though ...

Thedom · 29/07/2024 19:48

And the timing of the postings is usually a good indicator.

It's so tedious. I really wish MN had a mute button, normally I just skim over those posts as there's absolutely no point in engaging and all they're seeking to do is disrupt and distract.

I noted a load of posters the other night with names that are What3Words locations in Russia. They were not contributing anything substantive to the thread (short statements) but were many and had no posting history. All their posts just disappeared - there wasn’t a deletion message, it was just as if they had never existed.

MummyJ12 · 29/07/2024 20:00

I agree @elessar. A mute button would be great!
I am getting more picky with who I’ll engage with.
@Puzzledandpissedoff It’s really upsetting to be deleted when you are such a thoughtful and well balanced poster. I was deleted without merit on another thread and I can’t imagine why. Most of the time the mods get it right. Sometimes they don’t. I do think some posters like the tactics of mass reporting posts that aren’t along the lines of their narrative. It’s feeling more and more like game playing in some instances.

Crazycrazylady · 29/07/2024 20:02

JSMill · 28/07/2024 11:19

It's been over four years since H and M left the RF and H is still complaining and acting like the victim. It just proves to me they never actually wanted to leave. They wanted to establish their own 'court' which would give them far more control.
For some strange reason, it seems H thought he was equal to his brother and get the same things ie his own household. He should have looked at how his Uncle Andrew was treated. When he married Sarah, he was 4th in line to the throne and still a significant working royal but didn't get his own household. H was 6th in line when he married. I think he thought his apparent public popularity made him more important than he was but it doesn't work like that. H and M announced they were moving out of the country to get some leverage but their gamble failed and he is still bitter about it.

Totally agree with this. I honestly think that he thought he and meghan simply couldn't be done without and the palace would cave for him in the end. He still comes across as almost speechless with shock as to how it's all turned out.
It's clear to me that he does find thr 'ignoring' difficult to bear and so he pokes the bear to try and get any reaction and engagement from his family with more interviews and 'explanations' .

All so sad really : they are both so isolated , ( him in particular) from all he has ever known.

What a genius spot!

So the same names that were on the ‘Megan positivity’ deleted thread - were the same names on the ‘Harry and Meg in Monteceito’ deleted earlier.

If you go to the Monteceito thread the deleted posts were all made around the same time.

They were just images and some gushing praise

One I remember was of meghan and her aquamarine ring on her wedding day- it said how much it will be worth in the future. I mean completely inane but not offensive but that was deleted.

So there was around 5 names posting the same type of images, around the same time , that were deleted and one of the names was the original poster of the Megan positively thread which was completely deleted.

They must be Russian bots or something.
