cant work out what I think about this. They all look lovely, match, but it’s not very festive. Bit drab- colour would have been better.

That's awful, so dull. Who thought that was a good photo for a Christmas card?!

ssd · 09/12/2023 22:24

Maybe they're cutting back?

HamHand · 09/12/2023 22:25

is that really it? All their heads look badly photoshopped on, Kate and Louis especially

ALittleTeawithmilk · 09/12/2023 22:29

It’s a bit like Werner Herzog’s Sad Beige Christmas. (See the account of That Sad Beige Lady on tik tok if you are wondering what I mean - she’s very funny)

LumiB · 10/12/2023 02:53

It reminds of those photos ur mum pulls out back in the day when they didn't have colour photos. Id imagine if the royal family ever went away this would one of those photos u would pull out and be like look we used to have a royal family...

cauliflowerwaterfall · 10/12/2023 03:20

Princess Charlotte looks so grown up… I must be getting old

Will you be getting a card from them? If not, what on earth does it have to do with you??

Even if you were, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a b&w family photo, and believe it or not, many people use b&w all the time for photos.

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 10/12/2023 03:33

It looks like a photocopy of a photocopy of a photo.

So festive.

chill out

WandaWonder · 10/12/2023 03:34

I think all staged photos look odd really, why could they just be wearing normal clothes not staged casual all look the same

thesixleggedpsychopathonthetrain · 10/12/2023 03:42

How is that even a Christmas card? It's just a photograph with no seasonal background or any background at all.

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 10/12/2023 03:51

it's an odd artistic choice to leave in all the empty background space rather than zooming in on the group.

Seems needlessly defensive?

OP has every right to comment - after all the photo has been "released" for all to look at/comment on.

It is very drab OP. I imagine someone thought it would be "modern".

Fail.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/12/2023 04:27

I think it is perhaps to promote unity and solidarity. That they are all as one. A serious family, planning for the future. It may also be a reflection upon the mood of the country. The cost of living crisis. I prefer the carefree, happy cards and don’t think this is a good choice, whatever the motivation. But I can understand one with them bathed in glorious sunshine in an idyllic setting could be seen as crass.

Is that why she wore £5k earrings to her Carol concert ??

Finestreason · 10/12/2023 04:46

Not a very inspiring homage to the Future Kings.

It’s an odd aesthetic, their clothes are naffly matchy, to me it looks like a 1980’s USA family studio photo. @

It really is awful.

Styling is awful, the lighting is awful, the composition is awful.

🎯 like ranchers.

Sussurations · 10/12/2023 05:19

Yes, there’s something weird about dressing in matching, studiously ‘informal’, slightly odd/unfashionable clothes for a
posed photograph. The grouping in the middle of a vast expanse of nothingness is strange too.

catzrulz · 10/12/2023 05:28

I've noticed that if they're with the children they always seem "matchy matchy" if they're on official outings.
Definitely promoting we're one united unit, fwiw I like the picture, not sure it's a Christmas Card though.

Mumdiva99 · 10/12/2023 05:32

I think it's lovely. I can see no issue with the position, lighting etc
It's a lovely change from the 'family snaps' they usually use. Without being so formal all the kids look posed, stiff and uncomfortable.

When did Princess Charlotte grow up? I think I blinked and missed that.

cocolocopocos · 10/12/2023 06:35

I really like it too. Such a photogenic family!

Haters gonna hate, as Taylor would say

Haveyouseenthemuffinman · 10/12/2023 06:40

They’ve got three young children, I don’t understand why they don’t just get one of them to draw a Christmas picture and reproduce it, rather than send photos if theirselves (and yes I know that is the done thing in certain circles but blimey it’s weird).

themessygarden · 10/12/2023 06:44

I really like it too, but then I don't like Christmas themed photos. They are such a good looking family.

jesterdourt · 10/12/2023 06:45

It looks really old fashioned like it could have been pulled out of a drawer, Im not sure why.
