cant work out what I think about this. They all look lovely, match, but it’s not very festive. Bit drab- colour would have been better.

Apparently the RF tradition of putting photos of themselves on their cards is because recipients like people to know who it’s from 😂

Surprised at the people who think no one should be expressing opinions- the card has been published across SM as part of the RF’s brand promotion. It’s no different from having an opinion on the John Lewis ad.

Agree with PP who suggested it’s a sort of “serious card for serious times” vibe. Definitely agree that it wasn’t an occasion for a flashy one (them all skiing perhaps) but something slightly less austere would have been preferable to me.

I haven't seen that one ow William and Harry before. Not so subtle message, putting famously horse-hating Diana's sons in jodhpurs.....

TheKnittedCharacter · 10/12/2023 10:32

The matchy matchy is naff. Like those awful Venture photo shoots. Bet they’ve got another one with them all lying on their fronts 😂

FinallyFinalGirl · 10/12/2023 10:54

I preferred the countryside, outdoorsy ones. They were happier. This one looks so stuffy and formal.

They played with that though while Diana was still alive - like this picture styled and taken for Vogue by Lord Snowden, Princess Margaret’s ex-husband. Apparently nothing in the picture was their own - including the pony!

I'm not crazy about this to be honest but it has grown on me. The idea with the black and white and the white shirts is to show the faces as opposed to anything else. There is nothing to distract. It's a pared back look and shows a beautiful family.

Gingerboy22 · 10/12/2023 11:47

That horse is giving Harry some serious side eye 😂

FinallyFinalGirl · 10/12/2023 11:49

Diana looks dazzling in that photo. The camera loved her.

Hbh17 · 10/12/2023 11:53

I think the point is that you will never get an RF Xmas card that looks "festive" (ie cheesy and grim). Look back at the last 49 years of RF Xmas cards and they are either a big event (wedding, Coronation), growing family or favourite private photo. Never in a zillion years would they put out anything as downmarket as being trimmed with holly, or wearing matching Xmas jumpers.

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 11:55

I don't like it and I usually love the cards. Not Christmassy at all! Send it back and get it reprinted.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/12/2023 11:59

Let's face it. It's DRAB.

Elvanseshortage · 10/12/2023 12:01

White shirts, jeans, black and white. It’s very American 1980s or, as something else has already said, a more recent non posh family studio portrait trying to emulate what they think of as posh. I predict next year they’ll all be lying on their stomachs resting their faces on their hands. Naff

Jacfrost · 10/12/2023 12:02

It's one step away from those hideous canvases of a family lolling on the floor barefoot with an all white background

Very odd choice

TheClitterati · 10/12/2023 12:05

It's horrible, Even as a non festive family portrait it's bland & devoid of personality & interest.

Elvanseshortage · 10/12/2023 12:08

The other odd thing about this photo is that it totally unlike the photos Catherine tends to take. She uses a shallow depth of field in her own pictures, with hardly any background. I don’t understand why she chose this photo. It has far too much background in it and it’s just wasted space background, it doesn’t add any context or anything aesthetically and at the same time detracts from the people.

I don’t think anyone’s imagining them wearing Christmas jumpers. Most of their cards are much more colourful and engaging than this one- the autumnal family shots are lovely. You have to go all the way back to George V’s card to the troops in 1914 to find one that’s plainer than this 😭

No, 1992, the one I think this is referencing.

I don’t think 1992 is plainer, although they do look terribly fed up in it

If I'd had to style that photo, I'd have at least put a couple of splashed of red in it. Catherine could have worn a stonking great ruby necklace and I'd have stuck some red glitter pumps on Charlotte. That'd have festived it up a bit.

PaperSky · 10/12/2023 12:29

I don’t mind it, but it’s some terrible photoshop.
Some rogue additional Charlotte converses in front of Louis.

You’d expect someone to notice these things before it’s released.

You think they should have removed Louis' feet?

DingDongBella · 10/12/2023 12:40

Am I right in thinking they made Charlotte sit down as she is now taller then George? When did that happen?
