cant work out what I think about this. They all look lovely, match, but it’s not very festive. Bit drab- colour would have been better.

Is it in black and white because they don't see colour?

cocolocopocos · 10/12/2023 08:19

Charlotte really stands out

GuitarGeorgina · 10/12/2023 08:19

Nice photo but not Christmassy at all.

SD1978 · 10/12/2023 08:21

I don't like it. The matchy matchy ubiquitous white shirt and jeans look is naff.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 10/12/2023 08:25

Their images are never Christmassy, and I like this more than some they've used in the past. The one they took in Jordan was very unseasonal.

I think it's simple and pared back, and the dominant large grey background is probably symbolic in some way.

LolaSmiles · 10/12/2023 08:27

I don't like it and normally I like their photos. The lack of Christmas doesn't bother me or the fact it's black and white. Black and white on a different shot could look great. The clothes and overall feel feels a bit matchy studio photo to me so the black and white makes it more dull. But it's personal taste and preference.

Overall they can't win. If they did one in full colour in Christmas jumpers people would find something to moan about.

DappledThings · 10/12/2023 08:27

Christmas cards with a photo of the family look cheesy and shit regardless of who that family are. This one is particularly random.

MissBattleaxe · 10/12/2023 08:28

It's horrible and over staged and lacks warmth. I quit like that autumnal one they did a few years ago but whoever thought this one up should be fired.

EasternStandard · 10/12/2023 08:28

They all look great, ie attractive but I’m not keen on the black and white for a Christmas image

Azure · 10/12/2023 08:28

There's an extra set of legs in front of Louis.

BethDuttonsTwin · 10/12/2023 08:31

Anything they put out would have been pulled to pieces. Maybe they just wanted to give the least possible material for people to use to do so. I quite like it.

I think it is perhaps to promote unity and solidarity. That they are all as one. A serious family, planning for the future. It may also be a reflection upon the mood of the country. The cost of living crisis. I prefer the carefree, happy cards and don’t think this is a good choice, whatever the motivation. But I can understand one with them bathed in glorious sunshine in an idyllic setting could be seen as crass.

I think this is most likely the reasoning behind it.

Ilovewheelychairs · 10/12/2023 08:37

It's the carpet that bothers me- all rucked up!

Indeed. No matter what they did someone would complain, whinge and over analyze. They can't win here so maybe they figured fuck it. As it happens I quite like the picture.

Jitterybugs · 10/12/2023 08:40

Who dressed them and took the photo? My money is on Stacey Solomon.

ToThineOwnSelf · 10/12/2023 08:42

Princess Charlotte needs a hair cut!

Serenster · 10/12/2023 08:44

William did a couple of B&W Christmas cards with his mother and Harry where they were in shirts against a plain background. Maybe he always liked them and wanted a similar vibe for his own family?

It’s not my favourite though - I thought it was AI when I first saw it!

Will you be getting a card from them? If not, what on earth does it have to do with you??

Even if you were, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a b&w family photo, and believe it or not, many people use b&w all the time for photos.

It's not just a photo though, it's a Christmas card.

Yes, there’s something weird about dressing in matching, studiously ‘informal’, slightly odd/unfashionable clothes for a
posed photograph. The grouping in the middle of a vast expanse of nothingness is strange too.

Yes. It looks slightly like a poster for a production of a Camus play.

With a slight tinge of those staged family photoshoots where a family plays stagily in white shirts and jeans.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/12/2023 08:48

God, the nastiness of so many posts on this thread

I happen to like it, not that I'd have seen it if I hadn't read this thread.

Why are people so exercised by a photo?

BCBird · 10/12/2023 08:51

Not particularly impressed with it, but as it won't be on my mantle piece I can't be bothered to give it any head space

quantumbutterfly · 10/12/2023 08:57

Mirabai · 10/12/2023 08:01

What they really need is coloured lights, tinsel and an inflatable Santa, right?

Yes!

CatWoman12345 · 10/12/2023 09:03

What I like about it is it shows what Xmas is about - family being together.
Not loads of ‘festive’ tat or big gesturing ‘look what we’ve got’ - this is a xmas card for these austere times.
It could have been a more informal backdrop though, that could definitely be nicer.

quantumbutterfly · 10/12/2023 09:03

They could have done a nativity scene, Willy would be Joseph, Kate would be Mary, the kids could be the Magi ( they must have a few spare robes and crowns lying around).
Chuck in a few farm animals and serfs from the estate and you're golden.

penjil · 10/12/2023 09:04

It looks like an advert for Hugo Boss or something.....

I mean, I don't hate it. But it's just not very festive.

If they were wearing Santa hats, it would be better! 😁
