Part 2 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

Thank you

There is a bit of a furore about messy buns. Sported by both Meghan and Kate.

Unfair.

They both look fab with that hairstyle.

As SmartWorks celebrates 10 years, Meghan sends them a message of congratulations.

SmartWorks has helped 32,000 women. Amazing!

Where's that article from? Talk about bullshit. There's no such thing as "protocol" about hair buns. What nonsense. People should get proper jobs.

Roussette · 29/09/2023 17:25

I think SmartWorks was such a brilliant idea. Like her or loathe her, Meghan came up with two great initiatives in her short time here. Hubb Community Kitchen (which is still ongoing) and SmartWorks.

It was in the Independent yesterday.

They should be ashamed. Obviously a slow news day.

I'm tempted to start a new thread called

""Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble": The Witches of the UK...or how Kate, Meghan and other royals have broken fake protocols and caused meltdowns AGAIN"

what do you guys think 😂

OP posts:
Maireas · 29/09/2023 17:29

I can't find it. Did they literally juxtapose Meghan and Kate and do an unfavourable comparison?

Cheeesus · 29/09/2023 17:32

Roussette · 29/09/2023 17:26

It was in the Independent yesterday.

The independent article is more focussed on “However, as some fans remember, Meghan Markle received backlash for sporting a very similar hairstyle just six years ago.”

Maireas · 29/09/2023 17:33

Oh right. Thanks, @Cheesus.

queentim · 29/09/2023 17:36

There's a Grazia UK article @Roussette summing up this double standard with a few other examples, but people have been calling out the double standards for a while, which is nice to see, as it is unfair

In what way do you mean she "came up" with these 2 initiatives?
I agree they are both fantastic organisations for her to support, but they're not projects she initiated which your post suggests.

I think she's referring to the clothing capsule initiative for SmartWorks, and the Hubb cookbook to fundraise.

Both great initiatives

Speaking of 'messy buns' brings me back to her hair and outfit from her wedding reception. One of my favourite looks. This style really does just suit her 😍

Maybe 'initiatives' is the wrong word.

Meghan instigated the Hubb Community kitchen and the cookbook.

She became a patron of SmartWorks and brought together retailers to donate pieces for a work capsule wardrobe. And has continued doing that.

Daisyislazy · 29/09/2023 17:48

She really suits that look

I've tried to do it but mine just looks messy

I agree the cookbook was a great project which she initiated. It brings funds to the Hubb Community Kitchen which was established by the women of Grenfell. I don't doubt Megan's commitment to and impact on the Kitchen project, but it wasn't initiated by her.
And I'm aware that she became patron of Smartworks in 2019 and launched the capsule collection, but the charity had been very active since 2013. Again I'm not doubting her commitment but your post read as if she had started these charity organisations herself.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 29/09/2023 17:56

Done well, the messy bun suits a lot of women and both look good with them. Let's hope this is an unproblematic thread and the threads about both women can be respectful.
Agree @Roussette both projects for those two charities were excellent. Smart Works has helped so many women, its an excellent organisation, happy 10 years to them :)

Roussette · 29/09/2023 18:27

I'd love to have had a messy bun Grin

queenofarles · 29/09/2023 19:28

Meghan looks chic and effortless in messy bun it really frames her face nicely
,
also Rousette , I saw this on Insta and thought the font looked strange , so I did a quick search and nothing comes up by Emily Wang 28 of March 2018, in fact that picture with green shirt is in October just before they announced their pregnancy , I remember that because it’s one of her best looks along with the black boatneck Dior dress.

thanks , still the article is praising her not the other way round , Meghan Markle, our favorite rebel, continues to break royal protocol, and her latest act of defiance is one of our favorites, On Friday, America's favorite royal-to-be made her first official visit with Prince Harry to Belfast, Northern Ireland.
the headline was taken out of context and made to look that Emily Wang wrote a hateful article about her.

Ok good to know! I didn't read article, just found the source but I found what you quoted pretty funny! Meghan Markle, our favorite rebel, continues to break royal protocol, and her latest act of defiance 😂

@queentim thanks for the invite! I normally stay away from Royal boards because they are so awful but the last thread popped up in my active and I genuinely though Catherine looked stunning so thought I’d see how this one goes too!

I like both couples equally yes they both have their failings but I’m no Mary Poppins either 🤦‍♀️

My favorite look of Meghan is the simple look of jeans & shirt , no one does casual like her, I try and fail miserably to copy it but it then I end up looking like my usual Wurzol look so it’s not worth the humiliation 😆😆😆

To be fair no one does red carpet like Catherine either, that gold dress was stunning but I know this is about Meghan so I’ll try no to derail..

Roussette · 30/09/2023 09:11

I agree. I think it's because her legs are so slim, and she gets the right shoes... flats, loafers or whatever.

I do also like her in a trouser matching top combo. She's good at that too. She rocks tan and coffee colours.
