Part 2 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

Meghan out and about visiting youth in technology initiative in NYC!

Very cute!

"Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stopped by The Marcy Lab School, a partner of The Archewell Foundation, to meet the exceptional Fall 2023 Fellows gaining the skills to pursue a purpose-driven career in technology."

I think she looks good here - smart but casual is her sweet spot - and she always looks a lot more comfortable than in the over the top designer label outfits.

And bravo Harry - you made it out of your grey polo shirt and look fairly smart.

Like Kate, she could also do with five or six inches off the bottom of the hair length - if you can see that first long layer over her right (our left) shoulder - that would be where I would cut it to, a long sleek bob. I think they would both look younger and more chic with that length.

wordler · 10/10/2023 19:21

And ladies (or their teams) whoever does it first gets to accuse the other of 'copying' - get chopping!

Ineedwinenow · 10/10/2023 20:49

Ooh thanks for updating what both our ladies are up to, I’m in Iceland at the mo and haven’t kept up to date on what they are both doing 👍 both look fantastic! I’d kill for Meghans legs!

"Prince Harry and Meghan to talk about youth mental health during New York City event | AP News"

"NEW YORK (AP) — Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are hosting a conference Tuesday in New York City on how the internet and social media affect youth mental health.

The two will discuss the topic at a panel alongside Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and moderated by NBC host Carson Daly, who has talked about his struggles with anxiety in the past.

The event — held on World Mental Health Day — is being coordinated by Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation and is part of a second annual mental health awareness festival hosted by a nonprofit called Project Healthy Minds."

You may like Meghan's panel outfit! She looks very cozy (while wearing our favourite here - all white again 😂)!

😆 I think we all agree she rocks white! I haven’t seen the panel outfit! Will check it out when I’m not freezing to death 🤦‍♀️

Ineedwinenow · 10/10/2023 21:18

Ooh just seen your post thanks for the link! I like that outfit especially the off the shoulder part, it does seem to bury her on the body though unless that’s just whilst she’s walking

ThePoshUns · 10/10/2023 22:12

Oh dear that off the shoulder top is the exact same colour as the chair. It's difficult to see where the chair stops and the outfit starts. She looks a bit like a Jack in the Box

AuroraCake · 10/10/2023 22:19

Very serious question. What qualifies them to do any of this? I mean nothing qualifies the royals either come to that but the title I front of their name but they have you know…got to do it. I just don’t get why they do these things.

wordler · 10/10/2023 22:26

I love everything about this outfit apart from the neckline - the all in one cream trouser suit is great for Meghan's style but no one looks good with what looks like a straightjacket wrapped around the torso. It looks slightly better when she's sitting down. But if you look at the model wearing it standing up too it looks weird and restrictive.

The colour, the all in one pantsuit, the earrings and the shoes all really great and suits her a lot.

I think you answered your own question there, AuroraCake. The same things that qualify Will and Kate doing mental health events today. None of them have degrees or formal education or training in any of the areas that they do charity work in. Thus none are formally 'qualified to do' anything. None of them are providing treatments to anyone, so they are free to campaign and discuss issues of interest to them, just like anyone else in philanthropy.

(They are all royals by the way, and Harry and Meghan still are.)

Whether, for example, Will and Kate are doing it because they have to is one thing and for another thread, but I think that they are all doing it because they WANT to do these things. They've all shown an interest in both similar and different topics within in mental health, and the more attention to the issue and various causes and campaigns, the better.

Yeah but they are just two people who have really done nothing to heart this platform. They are then just still royal. Doing pseudo royal things. Which is fine but why in earth should anyone listen to them.

onlylarkin · 10/10/2023 23:11

I do not like the color of the panel outfit matching the chair. Wish she would do more bright colors more often. I love the off shoulder look though. And her outfit with the lettermen's jacket looks amazing.

What qualifies ANYONE to do anything? Education? Experience? Everyone has to start somewhere. No one HAS to listen to them, or read about them. That is a choice despite what many people on MN would make it seem. Obviously someone is though or else they wouldn't have that big building rented and all those attendees.

In regards to mental health, I want to hear from people who have experienced mental health problems similar to mine. For me, I look to Harry when I work through my PTSD (I still haven't watched heart of Invictus, I am not ready). I have experienced suicidal ideation in my family, so Meghan's experience with it might interest me. That is akin to group therapy. I don't need a degree to talk about similar mental health experiences with others.

onlylarkin · 10/10/2023 23:13

That should have said "I don't need someone to have a degree to talk with them about sharing similar mental health experiences".

(Not sure what you mean by heart this platform) But it seems that they have the same platform (mental health) they had when working royals, now they are doing it within their own foundation because they want to. There's no difference. Plenty of foundations around the world have speakers or partners that align with their interests. It's not something that belongs to any 'royal' family. Service Is Universal :) . No one is forcing anyone to listen to any of them, nor do I think people should be convinced to.

Anyway, you could post this in Kate's out and about thread if you want to have that conversation about their activities today to see their thoughts. But I'll ask kindly for you not to try and derail this thread further so we aren't going round and round about why on earth anyone should listen to them. Or start a new thread on the usefulness of royal patronages, the qualifications needed, or why people should listen to them. I'd be interested in joining that one. Thanks!

I don't like the off the shoulder outfit and think it is a bit out of place in the context.

mrsmingleton · 11/10/2023 00:32

I also don't like the length Kate's hair/extensions is getting to.

Meghan looks beautiful but for me, the off-the-shoulder top feels inappropriate for this type of event.

I agree re the hair. Both Meg and Kate have too long hair at the moment, IMO.

I like the casual look on Meghan, but I don't think the formal shoes go with the casual/sports style jacket.

I agree , she is a very attractive woman and I like her trousers but the jacket was OTT for this event and unfortunate that she blended in with the chair .
Also agree with another poster that the shoes with her jeans were wrong . I always think she looks best dressed down but a ballet pump would have been better.
And yes both C and M need a few inches off their hair.

AuntieStella · 11/10/2023 09:12

I think she wanted to make that wide boat/Bardot/below shoulder neckline a signature look. She wore it many times on Royal duties as well as since.

I didn't think that style of top looks right with trousers though

mrsmingleton · 11/10/2023 09:41

@AuntieStella I have to agree. It is a fashion fail and yet again people are talking about the clothes as opposed to the event which is sad. The talk is about the 7 car convoy as well this time too after the last Taxigate. I guess this is why there is an argument for choosing event appropriate clothing.
