Part 2 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

@mrsmingleton this is a thread about clothing, which is why people are talking about that. There are plenty of threads on the clothing and style of royals, it doesn't mean people aren't also interested in the charities or issues. Why don't you start a thread on the actual event if you wish to discuss it?

Roussette · 11/10/2023 09:56

I personally don't like her top. It's just me because she has fab shoulders etc, it just looks to me like it needs pulling up!
I'm just not a fan of anything off the shoulder like that.

If that was a jacket I would love it!

Iwantcakeeveryday · 11/10/2023 10:02

oh I love the off the shoulder look myself...

AuntieStella · 11/10/2023 10:05

I think this one's a bit low for daytime.

I can remember one she wore (I think when on an engagement with the late Queen) where it went from the point of her shoulders and I think that looked considerably better.

Howsimplywonderful · 11/10/2023 10:09

I think the white suit idea is lovely, but I’m not a fan of the shoulderless look for a daytime serious discussion about families grief due to SM.

"thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports."

I think you are a bit confused about what I was saying or the theme of the topic or both - I was discussing the outfit and the event and its suitability and how such an outfit can deflect from a cause.

I think that might be it - it's too low.

Hurrah ! We agree !

Daisyislazy · 11/10/2023 10:29

I'm not really sure the top was appropriate, maybe more for nighttime

mrsmingleton · 11/10/2023 10:31

It is seemingly eggshell colour.

“The Marcy Lab has been a dream of ours and it's something we work so hard for every day and to have their support — not just financially — and the investment that they made in Marcy, but for them also to take the time to come to the campus, is such a generous act of just belief in us, belief in our students and the work that we do."

My DD would love that collegiate jacket

“It’s one of America’s only alternatives to a traditional four-year college, offering a one-year, full-time fellowship in software engineering. Students pay no fees—it’s funded by philanthropic support.”

Interesting concept.

It’s actually from here. A sweet nod to Robert Clark School.

This is interesting.

If you look at the 2021 annual statement, Archewell is not mentioned, either as a financial backer or as a supporter (there is a seriously impressive list for both those groups)

So Archewell must be a recent addition - so does anyone know what is the Archewell support to this institution?

MissElinorDashwood · 11/10/2023 10:49

Harry & Meghan “made a financial commitment to the Marcy Lab School a little less than a year ago. And along with that commitment, they also made a promise to uplift our work and to shine a light on it, and it was really cool to see the way they did that today.”

There’s some video footage (local news) for anyone interested.

@AuntieStella

“In January 2023, Meghan & Harry's Archewell Foundation provided a grant to Marcy Lab School, and they’ve run insight sessions with Fellows and their parents during the year. Students learn not just how to code, but how to hone their critical thinking skills.”

I don’t personally like the white off the shoulder trouser suit as an item in its own right.

It looks overcomplicated and fussy. A bit 80s retro? Or an alternative bridal / wedding outfit or Oscar acceptance outfit?

That’s what sprang to my mind.

It’s my opinion that it was inappropriate and overdressed to personally meet the bereaved and grieving parents of children who had taken their own lives.

meercat23 · 11/10/2023 11:20

I don't usually comment on clothes or fashion having absolutely no credibility in that area whatsoever. For me though the off the shoulder styles always look uncomfortable and I would be wanting to hitch them up all the time. Back in the day there were lots of hippy type tops with an elasticated off the shoulder look and I always felt the same about those.

The picture in the chair looks a bit odd and if M has been wrapped in a sheet. I think it must take a lot of confidence to wear that style. The standing shots look a lot better.

MissElinorDashwood · 11/10/2023 11:21

It’s my opinion that it was inappropriate and overdressed to personally meet the bereaved and grieving parents of children who had taken their own lives.

Judging by the video footage of the grieving parents meeting Meghan as they came off the stage, I’d say they were fine with it and that’s all that matters.

There’s clearly a bond between the parents and both Harry and Meghan if you actually watched/read about the panel that involved the parents.

Gloriously · 11/10/2023 11:25

I haven’t disputed any bond and I have watched the video and know about the history of H&M with these parents over the past year.

It is still my opinion that this outfit was inappropriate and misjudged for this sensitive occasion.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan at Archewell Foundation's Mental Health Day Summit

"Prince Harry and Meghan to talk about youth mental health during New York City event | AP News"

"NEW YORK (AP) — Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are hosting a conference Tuesday in New York City on how the internet and social media affect youth mental health.

The two will discuss the topic at a panel alongside Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and moderated by NBC host Carson Daly, who has talked about his struggles with anxiety in the past.

The event — held on World Mental Health Day — is being coordinated by Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation and is part of a second annual mental health awareness festival hosted by a nonprofit called Project Healthy Minds."

Edited

Not a fan of this look, her hair is lovely, but I don't like the top or the trousers. Not really appropriate for the event and I don't think they flatter her figure.

For me, her best looks are the slightly fitted looks in brighter colours.

The top here is too bulky and makes her look chopped off and "too wide", the buttons add to that wrong impression and the trousers just aren't flattering to her.

Much preferred her casual look earlier in the day.
