What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

No thoughts about it then? I wonder if they'll get refunded the renovation costs they paid back 🤔

They shouldn't get anything back. She gave it to them for a home - not for an empty building to be sat there for years.

LadyHarmby · 01/03/2023 06:10

Seems sensible, why have it sitting there empty? Am sure there are plenty of spare rooms across the royal residences for them to stay in when they visit.

diddl · 01/03/2023 06:11

Well it makes sense as a 2 bed place is surely suitable for one guy?

Andrew took out the lease for many years I thought on wherever he is now but I suppose it doesn't have to be renewed.

They could all probably easily fit into just one of the residences!

Hasn't Edward & Sophie's gaff supposedly got more than 100 rooms?

They paid rent and Eugenie lived there for a while, I guess it makes sense that it should go to Prince Andrew.

Click bait. They most likely agreed

diddl · 01/03/2023 06:13

I thought that Eugenie was living there now tbh.

Maybe her & her dad will swap as she's about to have her 2nd child??

It wasn't empty, Eugenie and Jack currently live there.

Charles has EVERY RIGHT to evict them but I firmly believe they should be paid back the renovation costs.

Well, whatever is going on there's none of them worrying about paying bills or losing the roof over their heads.

Maybe Charles will deduct that from the handouts they had when they first left!

Why? They knew they didn't own it when they did those renovations.

You don't get your money back if you put new carpets in a rental.

ScentOfAMemory · 01/03/2023 06:16

Shall we correct the clickbait from one of our resident creative writer of headlines?
If you read the less scurrilous articles, the truth is that Harry and Meghan leased the cottage from the royal estates and paid for the renovations themselves. The last people to live there for a short period were Princess Eugenie and her family.
What has happened is that the royal estates have asked Harry if he's intending to use the house for any length of time again. If he isn't, then the house will, as would be sensible, return to the estates.

ScentOfAMemory · 01/03/2023 06:18

But go on OP- fill your boots. The rags you spend all day slavering over are saying the King wants to put Prince Andrew in there. On your marks....

daretodenim · 01/03/2023 06:18

Is it true, or rumour?

If true, as they never want to live here and they don't want to be part of the RF, it can't be all that challenging for them. It's more symbolic really. The symbolism must sting though. But I'm sure it's not dramatically impacted their life in Montecito. I'm sure Harry will cope in his 15-bed house just fine and Meghan may be secretly relieved as it was reported (and we believe everything reported!) that she found it too small anyway.

Actions have consequences and if this is Charles' response then it's actually quite clever. It sends a message, but is symbolic more than anything.

If it's true.

It was public money with the understanding they will be working Royals. They didn’t work for the public so we got a refund. Why would we now give them money?

Exactly, they didn't own the house but paid for the renovation which the house was due for anyway. I'm sure more details will be forthcoming.

It says they’ve moved to Portugal. Meaning the property was going to be empty.

Symbolism in handing it over to an accused rapist?

I really really hope Harry gets that message 🙃

Symbolism in evicting the alleged rapist from his huge mansion and moving him to a house which a previous occupant felt wasn’t grand enough for a royal? I really hope Andrew gets that message, too.

soleilblue · 01/03/2023 06:42

Seems fair enough. They aren't using it. Don't see why Andrew is moaning it's a free house. More than he deserves.

From who?

He should just shut up and be grateful he doesn't have to pay for his housing

From the article in the OP @soleilblue?
