What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

The renovation wasn't cosmetic. It was inhabitable and already earmarked for severe work. H&M just took on the burden.

So... Every council tenant should get refunded for any decorating etc they do whilst they live there when they move out?

MyPurpleHeart · 01/03/2023 08:33

Im more shocked that its being reported as a 2 bed. Have you seen the size of it!??

Where are you reading that? OP's article says 5 bed.

Well, whatever is going on there's none of them worrying about paying bills or losing the roof over their heads.

This

Why? They spent vast amounts of money to get what they wanted, no one asked them to, no one forced them to. Whoever moves in next, Andrew or anyone, might hate what they've done.

The only thing that should be considered is if there was essential maintenance work like repairing a roof or replacing rotten woodwork. Other than that it was their choice.

It wasn't just copper baths and curtains. It was structural work, rewiring and flooring.

As I say, the RF got a very good deal there. Property brought up to good standards that were needed anyway.

Well exactly…Andrew might have preferred it had been left as 5 flats and he could have lived in one, and rented out the rest - he could have been the caretaker and rent collector. I think most people would be quite okay with that.

Do you? You sit there with a coffee in Starbucks pondering whether or not Harry and Meghan will buy a place in the UK? You lie awake in the dark pondering the odds of two people you've never met flicking through Zoopla? You get honked when the lights turn green because your mind has wandered onto the knotty problem of a young couple considering the purchase of a holiday home?

Why? Why do you wonder that?

It wasn't just decorating! Although that happened at the end. It was structural work, rewiring, flooring etc.

I doubt a council tenant pays for all that?

They act so obtuse it's funny, one was comparing structural work and rewiring to installing new carpets 😂

Please make it make sense.

Hahaha... as IF Andrew would live in a small flat! He wouldn't. Nor would he be a landlord. He's never done a proper job, unless you call trousering backhanders whilst being flown in opulence round the world to his favourite golf clubs... a job.

He couldn't, the buildings were already earmarked for extensive work.

I know H&M had a lease they renewed last year. They were either not given the choice to renew it this year or chose not to.

Who pays the rent? Was Eugenie paying while she was there and now she's moving Harry wants to give it up rather than pay the rent. That seems perfectly reasonable to me.

purpledalmation · 01/03/2023 08:40

I have my doubts about the 'news' item.

I simply don't think it's genuine, so where does it originate?

Does sound a good idea though lol. It's been renovated so H&M would need to be paid back, but it makes no sense. The couple don't want to return and they have no place here any more, it's that simple. Their life is in America and I hope they find happiness and privacy there

Roussette · 01/03/2023 08:31

I agree. I bet the Queen told him to steer clear when he becomes Monarch. He's never been able to. If the 'Windsor Agreement' goes tits up, he's going to look stupid. It is only an agreement in principle at the moment. And there's a lot of angry people with RS saying how wonderfully NI have got it all. When we in the rest of the UK haven't.
It's not over till the fat lady sings. Charles entertaining the President of the European Commission is him blatantly ratifying the deal.

Exactly! @Roussette
It would appear risky (not ratified yet etc) but RS & Charles must be fairly confident to put their names to it, formally, as they very much have ('tea at the Castle' is a bolt on that Charles did not have to offer UvL).
I suppose the other thought is, Charles, (less so RS) may feel that it doesn't matter for Him if it does go tits up as it were because extraordanary wealth & position of power that us peasants could barely dream of. Power attracts power.
It's not a healthy place for the UK to be in 2023.

Who knows how much they spent on decorating and carpets? If they use the gold wallpaper that Boris did at no 10 an awful lot of money could have gone on decorating and there is no reason why they should be reimbursed for that.

We just know there was structural work, flooring, rewiring etc. Of course they decorated it to their liking.

Personally, and it is just my opinion... I think they should be given back half. Won't happen.
Imagine the outcry on here, it would spawn about 4 full threads is my guess.

H&M I think. When Frogmore was paid off, they also said they covered rent in advance. It was sitting empty anyway, it may as well have been put to use.

Frogmore must be awful such that M&H disliked it and Andrew doesn’t want to move in. Is it haunted?!

Harry paying his own way is tripe. Charles gave him the money to pay the money back. Harry himself said “Pa” cut him off so he expected financial support to continue forever, whatever.

Did you read my post that you were replying to? I specifically said reimbursing them for essential maintenance work should be considered. How much do you think the copper baths, curtains, wallpaper of their choice, carpets, top of the range kitchen etc cost that was just what they wanted? Anything more than the cost of a new bathroom suite, kitchen and wallpaper from B&Q is on them, it was their choice.

But have the DUP really had their say yet... not sure.

I just think it is an extremely delicate situation that affects us in the UK, and the US who have strong views on it... Charles should've kept his shnozzle out.

However, we know there will be plenty more of this in time to come... bring it on, it will amuse me greatly Grin

Honestly I'm no fan of Andrew's but he had sex with a 17 year old girl when he was in his early 20's. ( turns out she had been groomed by his pal) Grim as feck but it does not make him a peadophile?
It's not a word that should be used lightly.

I read they paid a years rent in advance so that has run out. Why would he want to keep paying rent on a house he isn't using? That doesn't make sense does it. I've got respect for him looking at where his money is going and if it is a waste. Isn't that what the rest of us do?

Yes, I know you said that? Which is why I suggested the half reimbursement. Not sure why you are tetchy when I replied to your post with that.
I made a suggestion in response to you didn't I?

I dont get your irritation with me to be honest, I called it just my opinion too Hmm

People moaning about Netflix and Spotify paying them millions plus the book deal but still saying Charles gave Harry money 😅

When Harry talked about his "Pa" cutting him off, that was just after Harry left the RF and before they found their feet. Very stupid of Harry and Meghan I must say, can't leave the way they did and still have expected transitional support IMO.

Please provide a source that Charles gave them the money to pay it back. Every single news source says different to that.

That is what you would like to think, as the payment of £2.4M is a positive thing and you hate anything positive about H&M

The eviction story makes it sound like they wanted to renew their lease i.e were happy with the existing arrangement but were kicked out by Charles.

Obviously, no one knows what the truth is.
