What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

For all
we know, Catherine was going to meet a friend or had a specific focus for her shopping and only a short time to do it. She didn’t blank Meghan - that would have been rude

It was not her SIL. It was Harry's new girlfriend.

They were not yet married but were soon to be.

Serenster · 02/03/2023 16:17

It's what I get asked for. It's hearsay. A theory. Gossip.

Two women were privy to the conversation. There may also have been some Kensington Palace staff as well. Given it was published by someone who Meghan had direct links with in Toronto, on a Toronto-based gossip site, on the balance of probabilities it is more Iikely it came from Meghan than Kate, or a KP staff member. That’s the burden of proof in civil court cases, by the way.

Roussette · 02/03/2023 16:18

Yeah, course it is Hmm

That's a new reason that wasn't thrown out on a post years ago!

From the minute that shopping trip story came out, I had a view on it. I posted on MN years ago.

If a woman joined our family by marrying a brother or BIL of mine, of course I would take her shopping if the opportunity arose,, especially as she came from another country, didn't know anyone and didn't know the area. I think it was a snub.
I was very surprised at the time that Kate didn't. I puzzled over it.

I can't cope with all the push back on this. I've heard it all before... Meghan probably wasn't friendly, why should Kate do that, she probably didn't want to draw the press attention to herself, maybe she wanted some quiet time to herself, yada yada yada.
It is just my opinion, for what it's worth.

good post

Serenster · 02/03/2023 16:21

The couple had only become publicly known about in November 2016..

The story was published on 17 February 2017, so it the shopping tip in questions obviously happened before that date - in early 2017, let’s say.

M and Harry announced their engagement in November 2017. So no, they were not “soon to be married”, that was still many months away.

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 16:22

I am sure the family knew long before the public knew. Or at least that is what would happen in normal families.

I do get a little tired of hearing about what happened years ago here on MN. We weren't all here. Every poster here is not responsible for all of your grief from years gone by.

You can continue to say what you would do if your brother brought a new girlfriend home. Take her shopping and do one another's nails or whatever. Presumably you are not a future Queen raising a future King, have never been harassed by paparazzi, have never been photographed with your top off and had pictures splashed across the papers.

Judging other people based on your own life circumstances is pointless.

cyclamenqueen · 02/03/2023 16:27

Quite apart from the fact that security for royals is always complex and non spontaneous , the shopping trip took place before Harry’s relationship with MM had been publicly confirmed. , can you imagine the media circus if they had been spotted together shopping. Why would M&H want to court that. Plus I imagine Kate just wanted a quiet couple of hours.

also Harry had already professed undying love to two people and had numerous affairs ( not a criticism ) I should think they thought this was just another one. Kate possibly thought Meghan would have more sense than to give up her life to the mad life of royalty.

Odd. I don't have 'grief'. 🤣

Your second para is why I mentioned about paparazzi and such like. I would still do it. The RF are well looked after.

And none of us can imagine what it's like being a member of the RF. I am just speaking generally, I thought it was a bit mean.

Kate and Pippa invited Meghan to Wimbledon (and Kate later invited Meghan to sit with her at the polo after she had Archie). I doubt it was because they enjoyed her company. To Meghan, anyone's reasonable boundaries were a snub and any reconciliatory gestures (like sending flowers) were also seen negatively.

That quote from Finding Freedom proves that any aunt-niece bonding on Meghan's part was for show. She expresses no actual affection for Charlotte but implies that she was going through the motions of fussing over any twenty month old - almost as if to show Harry that she was good mum material.

Time and time again, I am left wondering if she ever has real feelings for anything which doesn't have a prominent element of self advancement?

Time and time again I wonder why you are so desperate to come to the Coronation when you clearly despise them.

Roussette · 02/03/2023 16:34

FOR THEM to come to the Coronation. Not you go to the Coronation, but maybe you'll get an invite?!

derxa · 02/03/2023 16:42

Inkanta · 02/03/2023 16:44

And my money's on a Camilla/Kate cold front to repel the invader or at least put her in her place, a strategy that has blown up in their faces. Rather than being the Fab4 and a modern monarchy reboot fit for the 21st century it has driven them away and certainly post the death of the queen, highlighted the dysfunction, privilege and increasing irrelevance of the institution to the average citizen

My line of thinking too nilsoften

wordler · 02/03/2023 16:54

My understanding on the shopping trip incident at the time was that there was a worry that getting photographed together would fuel speculation about the seriousness of Harry's relationship and provoke more unwanted attention for Meghan before an official announcement was made, and that the KP press office had been warned that some tabloid journalists had been trying to get some inside info on how Kate and Meghan were getting along.

It's weird that it somehow turned into a snub from Kate over the years.

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 16:58

I think people believe the Kate snub because of the stories of how she treated the York sisters.
But also lots of stories about how badly William's friends treated Kate.

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 16:59

@wordler The incident involves them meeting by chance on the street. There was no opportunity for anyone to have any worries about them being photographed together.

Where do you read all this drivel?

AliceOlive · 02/03/2023 17:04

And I read that Kate was pulling out of KP and drove by Meghan.

VixenTodd · 02/03/2023 17:06

Security for the future queen does not work like James Corden's carwash or whatever it was called. You don't just pick up passengers you don't know very well and go off shopping in South Ken without having it cleared on many levels.

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 17:07

@derxa The same place you read about Kate the Saint and wonderful William and Charles.

wordler · 02/03/2023 17:07

@wordler The incident involves them meeting by chance on the street. There was no opportunity for anyone to have any worries about them being photographed together.

The story as told in "Finding Freedom" was that they 'crossed paths" at Kensington Palace (not on a street already shopping) and discovered they were about to go shopping on the same street (I think the King's Road) but that instead of offering a lift Kate left in her Range Rover and left Meghan to go on her own.

At the time, I'd read that the KP press office was wary about Kate and Meghan getting papped doing stuff like that together in general because they'd been tipped off that the tabloids were desperate to get that kind of shot for the papers. And it was just after Harry had released that statement about the press leaving Meghan alone.

AmandaJonah · 02/03/2023 17:08

@VixenTodd Yep you just ignore your very soon to be sister in law.
