What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

Can people really not see what's going on here. Big headlines about 'slimming down' and appearing like Andrew is being 'put in his place' meanwhile still spending ££££ on the coronation etc. It's all designed to look as though they are 'reading the room' whilst all they are doing is re-arranging the chairs.

When is the money they receive going to be cut? When is Charles going to say 'oh no we don't need that much?'

milti · 01/03/2023 08:55

Good- they’ve earned hundreds of millions using their titles to sell stuff- I’m sure they’ll survive - like the RF would want then living on their land after the way they have sold stories

tatalan · 01/03/2023 08:55

Roussette · 01/03/2023 08:52

Please provide a source that Charles gave them the money to pay it back. Every single news source says different to that.

That is what you would like to think, as the payment of £2.4M is a positive thing and you hate anything positive about H&M

Even their beloved DailyMail admits they did and saved the RF from dipping too far into their reserves. Unless they think the RF lied in the financial reports.

DUCK!

A pig just flew over Grin

milti · 01/03/2023 08:56

Charles have them millions - whether they used that actual cash to pay the money back from Frogmore is irrelevant - overall a couple in their 40s have scrounged from daddy, Tyler and god knows who else - well Harry not quite 40 before someone pipes up

VixenTodd · 01/03/2023 08:58

How do you know that they haven't already leased another house in the UK. Like the one they previously leased near Soho Farmhouse?

Maybe when hell freezes over!

VixenTodd · 01/03/2023 08:59

It makes good pre-coronation PR doesn't it ?
Boot out the traitors!! Bread and circuses!!

So which is it? are they selling out their titles to earn money or are they just scrounging off randoms?

Andrew should be put into a council flat in Tower Hamlets. That'd bring him down to earth. He's nothing but a spoilt brat.

Exactly!

Also a nice distraction from his recent (unwelcome) dabble into politics.

I think Charles will get away with it, the british public are far more accepting and malleable than you would think. Brexit has taught me this.

This eviction story itself is nothing other than a distraction.

Working royals getting some stick, let's talking Harry and Meghan and generate some mockery or outrage.

Short term yes I'd agree - but the Queen held a great deal of affection and is less than a year dead, the public has a big circus to come.

Lets look again in a couple of years when Queen "but she would only ever use the title Duchess" Camilla has pushed her entire family onto the royal gravy train (son and grandchildren already established into it), people remember more and more what used to annoy them about Charles, Charles will interfere more - its his nature. Another year or two of the Doolittles spending more time with their PR companies than actually doing anything.

Times change. The Queen occupied a unique position in the public mind. She may have been very well remunerated but from the public position she did the job for 70 years and kept her nose out of politics - publicly at least. The crown estates were very busy lobbyists in their own interest behind the scenes but she did at least understand that the return for the fabulous tax funded wealth was public discretion and a lot of public appearances.

Lessons which seem to have been lost on the succeeding generations.

purpledalmation · 01/03/2023 09:01

Harry quite clearly says his Pa cut him off financially when they left the UK in feb 2020. Yet Charles' accounts show he bankrolled him for another year. So when H&M did the Oprah interview in march 2021 he'd only just been cut off. Maybe he used this money to pay back the renovation work?

milti · 01/03/2023 09:02

@tatalan both - they’re not mutually exclusive - and also getting people to donate their own money and passing a small percentage on to good causes - they’ve been served an eviction notice - so they must get out - or appeal

journeyofinsanity · 01/03/2023 09:03

tatalan · 01/03/2023 06:14

Charles has EVERY RIGHT to evict them but I firmly believe they should be paid back the renovation costs.

I doubt they will be shafted. They'll be refunded and it will all be brushed under the carpet.
Amazing how people are so gleeful to see them evicted but have no qualms about it being given to Andrew.
Says a lot about the moral compass of many MN readers.

milti · 01/03/2023 09:04

Im delighted to see them evicted - can’t stand Andrew either - he should be evicted as well

diddl · 01/03/2023 09:04

Well they're not going to be on the streets are they?

Also I thought that they were embarrassed to show Oprah the place so probably OK with not renewing the lease!

milti · 01/03/2023 09:05

I think it’s nott cott Meghan was disappointed with

HaveYouSeenNancy · 01/03/2023 09:05

If people are pleased at the thought of Andrew living there journeyofinsanity it's because it's such a massive downgrade for him (from the royal lodge). I don't think Andrew has any friends on mumsnet.

Serenster · 01/03/2023 06:41

Symbolism in evicting the alleged rapist from his huge mansion and moving him to a house which a previous occupant felt wasn’t grand enough for a royal? I really hope Andrew gets that message, too.

Smile
Roussette · 01/03/2023 09:08

I doubt Andrew will leave there. Not grand enough for him. It's just a media story to look good.

And as if on cue, BBC News has the obsequious Nicolas Witchell banging on about the gold leaf being painted on to the Coronation chair.

Would you like to see the belongings thrown in the street? 😅

Perhaps Harry and Meghan want a different sort of bolt hole if they return to the UK, and it could have been a mutual decision which just doesn’t garner the same vitriol and headlines

The Beckhams are selling their country home next to soho farmhouse which might be more to their taste now or something more like that

Poscapen · 01/03/2023 09:12

There are 10 bedrooms in Frogmore. A swimming pool, guest house and tennis court. 😅

GobbieMaggie · 01/03/2023 09:13

Who cares ?
