What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

If he purchases some grotty little one bedroom flat somewhere in Nowheresville to meet the requirement, I swear I'll like him a bit.

Only if he lets it out as an Air BNB for people who are desperate

Do tell us what that's like 🤣

Yes, after renovating it.

And yet the most irritating part of these threads, which are on the RF boards and clearly labelled so no need to mistakenly click are those who come on to spout how much they don't care. Eurgh.

It is a horrendous system

We are the laughing stock of the world

It is utterly undemocratic

I do not in anyway recognise any so -called "King"

you do realise, a significant piece of diplomacy with wide ranging long lasting repercussions has just been dubbed "the Winsor Framework" - how stupid does that make us look!

Who says I don't care!

I care nothing what so ever about who lives in what house, or who marries who, or what shoes who is wearing, or any of that - that is nothing to any one.

I care very much that this evil system is still continuing in the 21st century, and is so deeply rooted into the power base of the country that we can not realistically call ourselves a democracy

And for those of you who think the royals have no power, you are wrong - they do, and they delegate it

Hence we end up with moronic buffoons like Boris Johnson shitting all over us - because he is using the power and authority of the monarch, which he should not be entitled to

So don't go thinking this is some harmless soap opera.

It needs abolishing with immediate effect

If Charles had a shred of decency in him he would stop this whole farce right now

Maireas · 01/03/2023 07:45

"we are the laughing stock of the world"
I hardly think that in Kyiv, Moscow, Athens, Istanbul, Damascus, Mogadishu or countless other places folks are rocking with laughter at our system of Constitutional Monarchy.
Stop with the hyperbole.

That's nice.

So, people think Harry and Meghan readily agreed to this? Sounds plausible but surely they'd be releasing a zillion press statements about it if so?

pleasehelpwi3 · 01/03/2023 07:47

Sell it, it belongs to the UK taxpayer, use it to fund the NHS.

Maireas · 01/03/2023 07:47

Also, @Nimbostratus100 - it's the Windsor framework. That refers to where the decisions and agreements were made, not the current name for the house of the monarchy which only came into being in 1917.
Many centuries after the place "Windsor".

It is stupid, ridiculous and obscene to call this the Winsor Framework.

It is being seen as deliberately provocative

There is a lot of upset and anger- is RS really so out of touch that he doesn't realise this? Or has he done it deliberately?

I know H&M had a lease they renewed last year. They were either not given the choice to renew it this year or chose not to.

It's a bit self absorbed isn't it. Like all these other countries will be laughing at us. They won't care. Why would they even be interested!

Roussette · 01/03/2023 07:53

A lot of false statements on here....

H&M paid £2.4M for renovations after they left the RF, not before. And yes it is true, it has been fully accounted for within the Sovereign Grant accounts, before anyone comes on here saying it hasn't happened. Bearing in mind the property desperately needed renovation structurally, I think the RF got a good deal there.

Edward & Sophie live on Bagshot park, it is 120 rooms.

Andrew and his ex can easily afford Royal Lodge (98 acres, 30 rooms) as he only pays rent of £250 a week! You wouldn't get a flat in Barking for that. Ridiculous. I think Charles is pushing for him to pay upkeep of the estate, which might be a struggle for him. As I understand it, he is refusing to leave. Course he is... he needs to gallop round the land on his horses and his ex wife loves being filmed in regal costumes for promo of her Mills & Boon books on the estate.

I imagine this is a made up story, the DM are desperate for something/anything about H&M as clickbait, their print readship fell below 800,000 for the first time ever recently.

C8H10N4O2 · 01/03/2023 07:57

tatalan · 01/03/2023 07:08

Nope, he didn't. The articles claimed Charles could like they always do but no action was taken. I doubt Andrew will give up the lodge either. The RF like to seem punitive towards Andrew but these threats never materialise.

Punitive to Andrew? You have to be joking. They enabled and connived Airmiles Andy profiting from access to royals/royal palaces for decades. They covered up all his behaviour for decades. Even when faced with the law and no longer able to cover it up by bunging a few £££ at the problem they bailed him out to the tune of £12m+. They have consistently protected Andrew and closed ranks around him.

Lets wait and see if he actually moves to Frogmore or if its being handed to him for use by the young Porks.

The Queen gifted Frogmore to Harry - seems odd then for Charles to take it back and regift it to someone else. He should be reimbursing them if he is withdrawing a gift previously given to them by the Queen. I

The expensive PR machine so busy promoting the Doolittles and Camilla as "working" royals seems to have slipped on this one. King takes back Queen's gift to Harry to hand it over to the dodgy prince isn't a great look, especially outside of the UK.

Vermin · 01/03/2023 08:00

@Roussette yes they did pay after - H&M reimbursed the taxpayer for the £2.4m they had previously used on converting frogmore from 5 flats to one family home. They did indeed do so after they left but under pressure as a result of accepting taxpayer funding to create a home that they no longer lived in.

IkBenDeMol · 01/03/2023 08:04

They have a house in California. They have clearly stated they have no intention to live here again. So it doesn't make much sense to keep a property to never be used. It's not like they'll be turfing Royals out of their beds to find a space for Harry, Megs and the kids should they decide to come over for a visit.

And it's a good way of sidelining Andrew even further from Charles point of view.

You acknowledge in an earlier post not many people here give a stuff, how much headspace do you think people abroad give it? Not much! We have a very inflated sense of importance when the reality is no one is really arsed about it.

When did they say they have no intention of living in the UK again? maybe not full time but I don't recall them saying they would never stay for short periods.

Shall we correct the clickbait from one of our resident creative writer of headlines?
If you read the less scurrilous articles, the truth is that Harry and Meghan leased the cottage from the royal estates and paid for the renovations themselves. The last people to live there for a short period were Princess Eugenie and her family.
What has happened is that the royal estates have asked Harry if he's intending to use the house for any length of time again. If he isn't, then the house will, as would be sensible, return to the estates.

sssh this is far to sensible and realistic of the situation.
