She changed the whole look or Givenchy hate her?

pedigreechump1 · 11/01/2023 02:07

I think she changed the lot just before the wedding.
Anyone know the lead time for Givenchy bridal wear?
Facts as I see them.

  1. Her evening Sella mccartney dress looked stunning and fitted well.
  1. 4 days before the wedding a local tailor Aja had to refit all the daytime bridesmaids dresses. Where was Givenchy?
  2. on the day the dresses look ok but not fabulous
  3. on the day her day dress was not fitted correctly. i am not sure you could fit it with that darting position and a boat neck.
  4. Her veil was fabulous but didn’t match the dress and tiara.

This is no disrespect to Aja there is only so much you can do to refit a dress esp if there is no allowance for darts or seams and the cut is all wrong.

so A B or C?
A
She changed the complete look tiara and all and only kept the veil right up until the last minute.
B She kept chopping and changing or couldn’t make a decision right up to the last minute.
C
Givenchy hated her and sent sub par dresses even though the whole world would be looking?
I think there was no time for Givenchy to get the bridesmaids dresses fitted.
most likely there had been too many design changes before hand.

I agree.

The timing of this post (along with other threads using the same obsessive language), the fact they haven't actually used her name (but we all know who it's about) and the title 'She changed the whole look or Givenchy hate her?' indicate to me that this isn't an innocent post about fashion.

Then make it about the fashion then!

Discuss that doubled bonded Cady fabric, is a thick structured fabric. That Meghan and the designer worked to create this particular fabric, bespoke for the dress. That the dress was supposed to be clean, simple lines which reflects the Givenchy aesthetic.

Instead of gripping that the thread has ulterior motives. Ffs

Yet here you are commenting on it 🙄

I think with Meghan's dress it was a poor choice of fabric. The fabric was too stiff so it gaped rather than flowed.

I don't know what went wrong with the bridesmaids' dresses but there was definitely a fuck-up there. The boys looked ok, I thought. In that their clothes fitted.

Actually, I just checked and the boy's suits were Saville Row, so that explains that.

The reactions to this thread are so OTT.
Anyone would think OP had struck a nerve.

So many posters (or one and their socks) who claim to have absolutely no interest in the topic going to the trouble of opening a thread they have no interest in to tell us so.

H2bow · 11/01/2023 08:39

Charlotte's dress was awful, its on display now and you can see how uneven the hem is let alone the rest of it. It is odd for a designer to make custom dresses and then have to hire an independent tailor to work 4 days straight fixing them (and they still looked poor). Something doesn't add up.

Shelefttheweb · 11/01/2023 08:40

The evening dress was too big too. On another thread there is a picture of the same dress in a different colour being worn by someone else which makes this obvious. The fitting green dress looks another step up.

Youwhatnowbiggles · 11/01/2023 08:44

It does reflect very badly on Givenchy, it did at the time but people forgot. Harry’s the one who’s reignited interest. If you’re interested in high fashion/fashion houses and the industry it’s inevitable you’ll be intrigued as to what went soooo wrong with these dresses on what should have been a day for them to flaunt their wares to the world - and that’s already after Ajay saved them.

I just posted this on another thread, it dates from 2019 I think

That's hilarious. Anyone can make up any old stuff on the internet Grin

ReneBumsWombats · 11/01/2023 08:45

Did anyone criticise the dresses at the time?

RosesAndHellebores · 11/01/2023 08:46

I thought the day dress was much nicer than the evening dress personally.

There'll be a grain of truth in the gossip. Undoubtedly the DoS was being very "try hard" and the wedding was beset with family issues and brimming with celebs. However I do recall the Beckhams at Kate and William's wedding.

Yes

Yes

Could you get links? I'm not being combative, I ask because I'm looking and can't find anything from the time...it's all the current commentary. Thanks.

Acronymsandinitialisms · 11/01/2023 08:50

Why are so many posters telling OP they are obsessed? I can't see any other threads from this username to support that. OP seems to be knowledgeable about dressmaking and finds this interesting.

Well, Princess Angela of Liechtenstein's identical dress fitted her, so I'm going with mm pissing off the dressmakers.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 11/01/2023 08:54

It certainly seems to be something of a Wedding Attire Whodunnit/Whatdunnit - a hitherto unknown genre. Something happened. Wonky hemlines. A local tailor drafted in at short notice. I'm distinctly lowbrow and I've got time on my hands so I'm mildly intrigued too.

Orangefir · 11/01/2023 08:55

@ReneBumsWombats

This is one thread from the time on mumsnet specifically relating to the dress.

It wasn’t openly discussed in the papers, but on forums and SM, very much so

WomanhoodIsABirthright · 11/01/2023 08:55

Angela definitely looked better in it.

She changed the whole look or Givenchy hate her?
susan12345678 · 11/01/2023 08:55

I think the Beckhams are dreadful but they did presumably know William (and Harry) through the London Olympics bid & William’s association with football. Not like the Clooneys etc

Shelefttheweb · 11/01/2023 08:55

I wonder how much the bridesmaids dresses cost? (I would call them flower girls too - they were there to look pretty not to support the bride)

I’m interested in it just from the perspective of a major fashion house getting such a high profile thing wrong and what happened. It’s apparent as soon as you look at the bridesmaids dresses that they’re not right - they look like a local dressmaker has had a damn good try at them but certainly not couture standard. And they’re so plain, they look unfinished IMO. They clearly don’t fit either! And the no tights thing - well if that’s what the row was about I sympathise with Kate - it’s like a parent knowing that her daughter will struggle without tights or socks (and therefore the other girls too) and a non-parent loftily waving your concerns away when you’re the one who’ll have to deal with tears, bleeding ankles etc in front of the cameras of the whole world!

Mumsnut · 11/01/2023 08:58

<<irrelevant>>

I have that Stella dress in black

SpookyBlackCat · 11/01/2023 08:58

If you Google "Why didn't Meghan's wedding dress fit" you'll get around 15 million results.
