She changed the whole look or Givenchy hate her?

pedigreechump1 · 11/01/2023 02:07

I think she changed the lot just before the wedding.
Anyone know the lead time for Givenchy bridal wear?
Facts as I see them.

  1. Her evening Sella mccartney dress looked stunning and fitted well.
  1. 4 days before the wedding a local tailor Aja had to refit all the daytime bridesmaids dresses. Where was Givenchy?
  2. on the day the dresses look ok but not fabulous
  3. on the day her day dress was not fitted correctly. i am not sure you could fit it with that darting position and a boat neck.
  4. Her veil was fabulous but didn’t match the dress and tiara.

This is no disrespect to Aja there is only so much you can do to refit a dress esp if there is no allowance for darts or seams and the cut is all wrong.

so A B or C?
A
She changed the complete look tiara and all and only kept the veil right up until the last minute.
B She kept chopping and changing or couldn’t make a decision right up to the last minute.
C
Givenchy hated her and sent sub par dresses even though the whole world would be looking?
I think there was no time for Givenchy to get the bridesmaids dresses fitted.
most likely there had been too many design changes before hand.

@watchfulwishes you could say that about Harry’s book too!

No, I couldn't, and my view is you shouldn't either. Be sensible. The book is about his own life. These threads are nothing like that.

Whatever is going on/has gone on in the RF, the book is written by someone about their own life.

I have no interest in bridesmaid dresses either, but who are you to tell people what they can and can't post?

The thread policing on Mumsnet is insane.

Don't like a thread? Well don't read it then. The OP is well within their right to post what they like within the guidelines. Leave the thread policing to MNHQ, that's their job.

Agree!

I think that report is nonsense, though I don’t think it’s completely beyond the realms of possibility that Givenchy found M difficult - apparently many people do and it would certainly explain the dress debacle. I do wonder though if the focus was on the evening do for Meghan, with the day service something to be endured rather than enjoyed. I think she looked unpolished during the day, the dress didn’t fit, her hair looked like it had been scraped up to mop the floor, yet at night she looked immaculate and completely stunning. I’m no fan but she looked a world class beauty that night. Who knows really, but it’s fun to discuss and I am bored to tears with the shaming and aggressive attempts to stop people from doing so.

Quite interesting that link. Taking it with a pinch of salt. Has a ring of believability to it. Why all the people complaining about the OP? I reckon it's a legitimate speculation. Spare and the Oprah interview made it a focus. I hope the full true story eventually comes out.

Whether you like it or not, people are free to post what they think on a thread unless it breaches guidelines.

Whilst the Meghan obsession was just a fairly small group of fringe weirdos, it was not something I felt particularly moved to comment on. But seeing repeated obsessive threads has made me more interested - in the obsessiveness on display.

I think the response to the book has been very interesting to watch.

Harry's memoirs are in the news. People discuss the news. Human nature fascinates people.

There are, anyway, always numerous threads on Mumsnet about weddings, hen-dos and wedding attire.

That's pretty much exactly what I said in my own post 😆

Ratherubbish · 11/01/2023 07:31

@watchfulwishes maybe start your own thread to discuss the phenomenon of obsession?

If half of the detail in that link is correct

From Yankee Wally? I doubt it. She's a loon.

Clear fantasist, terrible grammar. Clearly needs an intervention.

I wonder if Givenchy are keeping an eye on all these "allegations" regarding reputational damage 🤔

I could, yes, however I am happier just responding today. But thanks for explaining how the site works.

MrsXx4 · 11/01/2023 07:51

I find this all very interesting OP so thank you for the thread! I am interested in the fashion too and find it all fascinating. I do love all things wedding and especially wedding dresses though!

Everyone posting to say they aren’t interested and to get a life are clearly the ones who have the time on their hands! I read loads of threads that I have zero interest in…..I just skip by them.

IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 · 11/01/2023 05:42

Lol if you believe that, you'll believe anything. Clearly bs. 😂

It ties in with other accounts I have read and makes sense of quite a few things if true.
I think M was angry at being made to have Charlotte as a bridesmaid. I think she thought here was a spoiled little princess with her snobbish mother who didn’t seem to like her. So she took it out on Charlotte.

The timing of this post (along with other threads using the same obsessive language), the fact they haven't actually used her name (but we all know who it's about) and the title 'She changed the whole look or Givenchy hate her?' indicate to me that this isn't an innocent post about fashion.

These are my thoughts about the whole thing:

A lot of people said on the wedding day that the bride and bridesmaids' dresses weren't a good fit and it was surprising given that they must have cost a fortune and that it was such a high-profile wedding.

Harry mentioning the dresses in his memoir means that people are talking about it again.

Even if Meghan was rude, difficult, stressed, whatever, a couture house should be more than used to dealing with difficult clients.

I think ultimately the buck lands with the dress designer. Givenchy should have been working their butts off to make sure they were perfect and they obviously weren't. My feeling is that the designer was too inexperienced in wedding wear and fucked it up.

pedigreechump1 · 11/01/2023 07:59

@MrsXx4 me too! here are some iconic dresses.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 11/01/2023 08:00

Look how beautifully Charlottes dress fit at Eugenies wedding. And Kate’s bridesmaid dresses. They are next level compared to meghans which look like standard run of the mill bridesmaid dresses. I say this with no ill will to Meghan, i have no real opinion of her, but just going on the dresses… something was off.

charlottes hem isn’t even straight.

SpookyBlackCat · 11/01/2023 08:04

I mean a good designer will steer a client away from an unflattering look.

If you compare Meghan's wedding dress with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's wedding dress, for example. Carolyn's was also a simple design but her's was utterly flawless. It makes Meghan's dress look frumpy in comparison.

NewYearNewCareer · 11/01/2023 08:08

I’ve just had another look and you can see the hems not straight. The shoulders are too big and they gape badly on the arms.
I also thought MM dress didn’t fit right around her bust and shoulders.

I think a lot of people commented at the time.

The evening dress was stunning and she looked amazing, and a lot more confident. It makes a difference.

toomuchlaundry · 11/01/2023 08:10

@DinnerInItaly but you can also say the same for posters who support H&M, there are a number of posters who continually start threads slagging off K&W and finding any titbit of gossip on twitter to start a thread on

I just posted this on another thread, it dates from 2019 I think

That's a lot of information from the cousin of someone who wasn't there at the time.
