The royal family

Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

Most of my friends including myself are totally supportive of them. That’s probably because we don’t believe the crap published in the tabloids.

Newyearhappy · 02/01/2023 21:43

Me too. I think they were treated awfully.

JM10 · 02/01/2023 21:44

Did hardly anyone sorry them or is it that the people who don't are much more vocal?

This, I don't know anyone IRL who dislikes them tbh

oxymomon · 02/01/2023 21:44

I also am supportive of them. I think they have been treated terribly, as Harry's mother was before him

Obviously this should say support not sorry

You can’t see through the lies in the Netflix documentary?

I think opinion is mixed unless you live in an echo chamber.

The main view in my circle seems to be that they believe Harry and Meghan were treated badly by the press, Meghan was probably not properly briefed on exactly what royal life would entail, they wish H&M as private citizens, but find the endless press releases and moaning quite annoying.

Some of my friends have a lot of time for them, some of are pro monarchy, others are ambivalent about the institution/outright republicans.

It's not like the UK is split into the Meghan Fan Club and the Meghan Haters. Most adults can hold more nuanced views.

cathyandclare · 02/01/2023 21:45

I think lots of people support them but the UK media definitely doesn’t.

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:45

Everyone I know is unsupportive

** wish H&M well in their lives as private citizens

DidyouNO · 02/01/2023 21:46

I think they are completely absurd. They seem to have brainwashed each other. I really don't think they know how ridiculous most people view them. It's not 'spun by the media'. They've been caught out being completely wrong so often. So much rubbish proved to be outright lies in their 'we want privacy but we'll go on Oprah' debacle.
MM stating they 'got married three days before the big wedding'. Just embarrassing really.

ACynicalDad · 02/01/2023 21:46

I suspect they are tied into this and can’t go back, if they had done one thing at at time they may have stopped after Netflix. I wish they would.

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:48

You genuinely think that someone who has a degree in international relations didn’t look into what marrying into the royal family would mean?
Anyway my point was really about whether the overwhelming negativity is getting back to them and therefore if it would maybe make them reign back their destructive pathway they are on.

Well a great many people I know don't support the corrupt tax avoiding royal family and their spin which deludes the less bright elements of the British public.

Stickytoff · 02/01/2023 21:49

I’m sure there are mixed opinions but I personally have only spoken to people who support them and think they were treated very poorly and Jeremy Clarkson made their case for them only a week after their series finished on Netflix. Most people I know don’t think that their issue is the RF but about how they (particularly Meghan) were being thrown under the bus with the media.

DaphneduM · 02/01/2023 21:49

I'm also supportive of them. I certainly don't fall for the awful stuff published about them in the tabloids. I'm old enough to believe that the truth will always out at some point. There's much more to this and I certainly believe there's been a deal done with the tabloids to protect certain senior royals. Harry and Meghan could have been a breath of fresh air and could have made the monarchy relevant. But of course their charisma and work ethic overshadowed other members of the family.

RWB9 · 02/01/2023 21:50

I imagine, considering it was the biggest reason for their move, that they are aware of the British Tabloids. Being the biggest and loudest voice against them.

If I were them, I wouldn’t be silenced by the same tabloids that drove one of them to suicidal thoughts. But that’s just me.

I support them and 90% of my friends do too.

EdithWeston · 02/01/2023 21:51

I think they're becoming pretty irrelevant in Britain now, and I have no idea how their courtship of US is going.

They were very unlucky with the timing of the pandemic, which meant Archewell couldn't hit the round running, and I don't think it's really hit its stride even yet (makes a few grants, usually with a co-funder, to a series of projects, but doesn't really seem to have really achieved anything itself, and don't think people really know what it does)

It’s the Mumsnet paradox. Effectively, the strength of consensus on here is usually matched by the complete opposite in the real world. See also Brexit, Tory party (well, until recently, anyway), face masks. Hence the palpable shock/meltdown when both the referendum and 2019 General Election results were announced. Complete, genuine and overwhelming surprise and disbelief.

GCSquirrel · 02/01/2023 21:51

Most people I’ve spoken to about it in real life have sympathy for them and think they’ve been treated terribly while also thinking that they are insufferable. Most people aren’t completely black or white about the issue, despite what the tabloids and MN threads would have you believe.

CloudSunLeavesCoud · 02/01/2023 21:52

I’m hearing really supportive stuff here. If you’re hearing negativity online it’s worth bearing in mind once the algorithms find your like or
dislike they sometimes just feed your more stuff to affirm your opinion so it’s not really representative of the general populations opinion. I’d be really curious to see some kind of opinion poll and what impact the Netflix show has had!

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2023 21:52

Oh dear Spck this isn't going too well for you :)

Ricco12 · 02/01/2023 21:53

Gosh quite the opposite, everyone I know seems to support them .

They think the RF is dysfunctional and treated them awfully.

It must be 50/50 then in UK I would imagine and prob 100% in USA

Heatherbell1978 · 02/01/2023 21:53

I support them. The people I know who read the Daily Mail don't support them and the people I know who don't read the Daily Mail support them. Take from that what you will.
