The royal family

Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

I actually feel more sorry for Meghan than Harry Tbh. This is his world, he knows the game, Meghan however couldn't possibly have really known what she was getting into. She wanted a family and this is the most fucked up family you could join.

worstusernameeverx2 · 02/01/2023 21:55

I support them and so does everyone I know

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:55

@goodbyestranger it doesn’t really matter to me. I know there is overwhelming negativity about what they are portraying but I wondered if they had the ability to reflect on their situation.

Agree Ricco the family is utterly dysfunctional and using dubious means to cling for dear life to its wealth and privilege. I'm disappointed that Harry has been so discreet thus far. Hoping for more as things unfold :)

blueshoes · 02/01/2023 21:56

I think many people are indifferent to them. Nobody in my family including teen dcs could be bothered (and scroll past any news on them). Doubt they cross the heads of my US colleagues. I asked them once when the furore started and they were already just politely interested but have never asked me anything since.

Doubt they occupy much headspace tbh. Same with the royal family, to be fair.

EdithWeston · 02/01/2023 21:56

I think the attempt to characterise every comment as arising from 'haterz' is unhelpful.

Making assumptions that people must fit into one or other box just stokes division, but keeps them in the papers, which I assume they want. Because coverage, no matter how flimsy, is what will keep them going until Archewell really starts achieving.

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:56

@Ricco12 definitely not 100% in the US - not by a long way

I despise the royal family....they seem the best of them.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 02/01/2023 21:56

I support them and wish them the best. I do find I'm in the minority though.

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2023 21:57

Well basically Spck there clearly isn't overwhelming negativity among the general populace. So your premise falls down.

Legrandetraitor · 02/01/2023 21:57

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:45

Everyone I know is unsupportive

Same

DemBonesDemBones · 02/01/2023 21:58

@Spck most people I know support them.

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:58

I work internationally in my job and while this might seem a minor spat they are painting the whole of the U.K. in a negative light. I do think they are causing much wider damage than most people think and are creating a negative view of the U.K. abroad.

I do

DottieUncBab · 02/01/2023 21:59

I support them

GyozaGuiting · 02/01/2023 21:59

In real life I know 2 people who support them and everyone else (circa 20 people), don’t like them.
But I have friends who worked with William and really liked him.

Ariautec · 02/01/2023 21:59

No, I don't support them. They need to grow up and hold mature conversations with their family if they want to rebuild relationships.
Selling out to TV companies is hardly going to help the process.

Spck · 02/01/2023 22:00

@goodbyestranger the post directly under you said completely the opposite. I’m unsure how you can speak for the whole of the U.K.

I support them. I cannot stand the notion that the Royal Family can’t be criticised, couldn’t possibly have leaked stories to the press and are telling the truth 100% of the time. They’ve got a hell of a dodgy track record so I’m inclined to believe it’s not always Harry with the loose lips.

DemBonesDemBones · 02/01/2023 22:01

@Spck but that's exactly what you're trying to do?!

Snickers94 · 02/01/2023 22:01

As Jeremy Clarkson said, older age groups tend to despise them while younger ones don't, apparently.

I support them and believe their claims. I'm a younger millennial. I just can't fathom why Meghan would lie about being suicidal when we saw the amount of negative press she got. That's enough to drive anyone to the edge!

happySaturdays · 02/01/2023 22:01

Think press is skewed right wing and over 50s view

Younger than people under 50 and non whites def support I know many glad things finally being called out

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:48

You genuinely think that someone who has a degree in international relations didn’t look into what marrying into the royal family would mean?
Anyway my point was really about whether the overwhelming negativity is getting back to them and therefore if it would maybe make them reign back their destructive pathway they are on.

Of course they're aware of the negativity, that was rather the point of it all!

But personally the responses I have seen have not been overwhelmingly negative, I would suggest that you may have been living in an echo chamber of negative opinions!

YoSofi · 02/01/2023 22:03

I support them

Aspiringmatriarch · 02/01/2023 22:03

I'm supportive of them. It's hard to accurately gauge the level of support they have - their critics seem to be very outspoken and persistent which creates a general background noise of negativity, but I don't believe that's reflected in the majority of people's opinion of them, if they even have one. You're likely to socialise with others who have broadly similar views to you so again, that's not an accurate gauge.

Either way, life isn't always about being popular and if you rock the boat, that tends to trigger a lot of backlash regardless of how justified you nay be; people are naturally (small c) conservative. So it's all a bit moot.

Time will tell what changes may come about as a result of the Harry and Meghan situation, I'd like to think positive changes are possible and eventually we will break the stranglehold of Murdoch and his ilk, who are the real villains of the piece.
