Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

I work internationally in my job and while this might seem a minor spat they are painting the whole of the U.K. in a negative light. I do think they are causing much wider damage than most people think and are creating a negative view of the U.K. abroad.

The tabloid press and their roughly 50 billion clickbait articles about them might play a small part in that. The damage they've done to our reputation, between that and Brexit, is staggering.

Of course portraying the country and a racist country has a negative view of the U.K.

What does this sentence mean

eddiemairswife · 02/01/2023 22:15

I neither support or not support. They have made their home in the United States and away from British media, so they can ignore that if so inclined. They each need to find something worthwhile to devote their time to and stop whining.

Isthisexpected · 02/01/2023 22:15

It’s the Mumsnet paradox

^ absolutely.

I don't know anyone who is unsupportive of them.

catandcoffee · 02/01/2023 22:15

I totally support them.
I'm glad Harry got his wife away from the disgusting so called media. The treatment of Meghan was, and continues to be, awful.

Spck · 02/01/2023 22:16

@Aspiringmatriarch i totally agree - I think this has been the major damage of what they are doing.

I support them, although I would like to see an end to the monarchy and the idea of a royal family altogether.

Kinneddar · 02/01/2023 22:16

I'm with you OP. I cant think of anyone I know who supports them

materialgworl · 02/01/2023 22:16

Everyone I know definitely supports them.

Boofay · 02/01/2023 22:16

Fully supportive of Harry and Meghan. I believe everything they've said.
I also remember how much the Daily Hate and News of the World readers hated Diana until she was killed and then it was all "oh, she's the queen of our hearts".
Tabloid readers are an odd bunch.

Spck · 02/01/2023 22:17

@Isthisexpected I don’t know anyone who is supportive.

believe everything they've said? Including the stuff which has been proven untrue?!!!!

Again, you're looking in the wrong direction for the 'bad guys' IMO. Our venal press constantly projects and feeds into the worst of us as a nation, that's where I'd direct my ire.

Staragain · 02/01/2023 22:18

i Don’t know anyone who doesn’t support them. I believe they were thrown under the bus by BP.

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 02/01/2023 22:18

I think they have been treated horribly.
Each of them and both in different ways.

I don’t think they are handling it for the best, but they should have been listened to once the racism started. The Compton stuff. Etc etc.

🙄. Why are you so invested Harry and Meghan’s lives? No, they aren’t talking down the whole country. For what it’s worth I don’t read the Daily Mail, I’d suggest that you put it down. Also my social circle either doesn’t keep up with the whole saga or is supportive of them. I don’t know anyone who is unsupportive of H & M

That is so true about Diana. The venom that was written about her and then the outpouring of grief and the nauseating tabloid articles.

I think the UK created its own negative view by perpetuating racism and xenophobia with the likes of Brexit. And the way the press and the royal family have handled this row has solidified peoples opinions internationally. It will be very hard to undo the damage from this.

I’m a republican and mostly ambivalent about two people I know nothing about. I do however have huge sympathy for Meghan generally and how they’ve both been treated. Although I do question why anyone would want to be part of that family given it’s dysfunction and history.

Karwomannghia · 02/01/2023 22:21

I support them and just as they said, they are well received by the British public despite the desperate attempts by the press to say the opposite. Yes there are some who seem obsessed with saying they’re sick of them and then start threads like this!

jays · 02/01/2023 22:22

I love them and totally support them. I think we all see what we want to see when it comes to reinforcing our own opinions, myself included.

whiteroseredrose · 02/01/2023 22:22

I don't know anyone who speaks positively about them. The consensus seems to be that they left the Royal Family, which is fine. But now shut the F up and enjoy your private life is the US.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/01/2023 22:23

I don’t know anyone who is supportive either. Most people I know think that they are both spoilt, over indulged and self centred.

NibbledSwitch · 02/01/2023 22:23

Spck · 02/01/2023 21:45

Everyone I know is unsupportive

Maybe you need to get out of your echo chamber once in a while?

Hbh17 · 02/01/2023 22:24

But most of us live in an echo chamber. So we tend to associate with/ read / follow people who broadly think the same as we do. So I can be right when I say that I don't support them & know nobody who does - but a person who says the opposite can also be right.
It is why the 2019 General Election result was such a shock for so many left-leaning voters - they only heard the opinions & views of of people who agreed with them. They had no idea that a chunk of the electorate felt differently. Neither "side" is right or wrong, just shielded from the full range of opinions.

Pyvadanya · 02/01/2023 22:24

I don't support them. I think that Harry is a very traumatised person and Meghan has her own needs (let's say). To me, iit's heartbreaking when families fall out and brothers don't speak. The whole situation is very sad and unnecessary and I think their approach is totally wrong. It just feels very classless and undignified.

My husband was totally on their side until he watched the documentary! He felt they were deluded and that they kept contradicting themselves. He cringed many, many times and went right off them.

Yes, theyve made millions, have become more famous have spoken 'their' truth, but at what cost? Surely this wasn't the only way to resolve their issues.
