The royal family

Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

I personally couldn’t care less about them but I think leaving the UK as they didn’t like the media circus was fair enough but then to seemingly court attention at every turn seems hypocritical to me. They have more than enough money to live abroad out the spotlight with their children. Obviously blame on both sides things we will all never know seems unfair as one side will never get to tell their story but it’s all a bit boring really.

Cornelious · 02/01/2023 22:24

I don't know anyone irl who has watched the Netflix series and not liked them- some did anyway but others minds were changed.

You genuinely think that someone who has a degree in international relations didn’t look into what marrying into the royal family would mean?
Anyway my point was really about whether the overwhelming negativity is getting back to them and therefore if it would maybe make them reign back their destructive pathway they are on.

They are making lots of money. What’s your thoughts on Andrew.
I don’t want to tell you what I think of you or your post it will get deleted.

ChubbyMorticia · 02/01/2023 22:25

Maybe it’s a location thing? I’m in Canada, and can’t think of anyone I know that doesn’t take Harry’s side.

sydsmum · 02/01/2023 22:26

Cannot stand the constant whinging. They are extremely rich and privileged individuals who seem to crave the limelight despite claiming otherwise. If they spent time with families struggling to eat/heat only then could they complain legitimately. Until then, please shut up.

Bugeyedowl · 02/01/2023 22:26

I support them and most people I know seem to too. Most of the negativity seems to come from Mumsnet, Daily Mail or twit. I can't stand the royal family, they've treated H&M very badly so I don't blame them for speaking out.

Spck · 02/01/2023 22:26

@snapdragon12 exactly so much untrue in what they are saying and people here seem to be accepting of it. No one I know in real life believes what they say.
Meghan didn’t know who Harry was? Really? Couldn’t figure out what the protocol might be for being in the royal family? Really? Despite being given a 30 page dossier of what might be expected? Despite having a close family of Harry’s cousins who would have helped?
despite all the falsehood that is east to find online about the documentary?

I don't care about them at all and am mostly just heartily sick of hearing about them. I would rather pull out my toenails than read more tabloid stories about them or watch the Netflix documentary. They aren't interesting.

Howandwhy · 02/01/2023 22:28

99% of the people I know and also content creators on twitter support them. The disgusting language used by Jeremy Clarkson who was surprise, surprise invited to Charles and and Camilla's tea party along with Piers Morgan has made it worse, as it's exactly what the couple are accusing them of (fratenising with the media to make stories). Also the black lady not being accepted as being British on palace grounds goes on to strengthen their support.

Most people I come across think it's much worse than they have both been saying and that their actually holding back...

NotAnotherBathBomb · 02/01/2023 22:11

The UK is doing that by themselves. Brexit, Boris, the state of crisis we're in. None of this is to do with H&M

Yep! We’ve been a laughing stock for a while now. You forgot about Trussonomics and tanking the pound.

I work internationally in my job and while this might seem a minor spat they are painting the whole of the U.K. in a negative light. I do think they are causing much wider damage than most people think and are creating a negative view of the U.K. abroad.

Ok Austin Powers, calm down. I can assure you, the UK is embarrassing itself ‘internationally’ right now. It needs no help from M&H

IScreamMonday · 02/01/2023 22:28

Honestly I don't know anyone that cares about the royal slebs

Ivyonafence · 02/01/2023 22:29

I think people in the UK have been drinking the kool aid too long and defend the RF automatically.

Internationally, especially in America, they have a lot of support.

Think press is skewed right wing and over 50s view

Younger than people under 50 and non whites def support I know many glad things finally being called out

Try that again without the ageism.

UWhatNow · 02/01/2023 22:31

Everyone I know across a range of ages and political opinions rolls their eyes at the mention of them. I don’t bring them up but if ever they come into the conversation people generally slate them.

It’s not about ‘believing the tabloids’ - when you think about what is actually going on in the world, two over privileged multi-millionaire nobodies whinging about their lot is actually perverse.

I think the silent majority of ordinary people agree with you op but this thread will bring out the republicans and haters who will side with the spiteful narrative that puts the boot into the royal family.

Yet here you are, voluntarily clicking on links about them and talking about them!

lucya66 · 02/01/2023 22:32

I support Harry and Meghan over Charles / William.

Royal family / monarchy are fundamentally classist, racist and oppressive. They need to be to retain power over people. Any pretence of not being these things is false. They literally live and die (and they have for hundreds of years) by the false belief they are better than us. That they have been chosen by gods to rule over common people. Meghan refused to comply or stay silent against that oppression, which is admirable. She was a celebrity and probably a little bit naive about how classist the royals are and what lengths they would go to to retain their power. I am glad she is speaking out, telling the truth is important and brave.

The tabloid media is used to fuel the narratives they all want to push. I am interested to see what happens. As only through two opposing sides can change happen.

Spck · 02/01/2023 22:06

@Tomatoblush why is it wrong to worry about how the U.K. is perceived abroad if you work in international trade?

If you do work in IR them surely you know that the image of Britain comes from how our government act and behave!

I have no strong views or interest in Harry and Meghan but this is a weird take - as if there was nothing else to make people abroad have a negative view of the UK! The throwing toys out of the pram (and massive act of national self-harm) that was Brexit, Johnson's antics, the Truss/Kwarteng disaster, etc. etc. Although I believe the well-publicised lettuce/Truss competition did actually increase our national standing somewhat. Oh, and apparently we don't think the Geneva Refugee Convention applies to us.

This whole Harry and Meghan thing is just another celebrity soap opera. Who cares?

Whinging?

Are you not aware of the level of vitriol the right wing press generates against Meghan and to a lesser degree Harry?

Are you one of these people who justify jeremy Clarksons comment on MM as 'banter' when in fact he (IMHO) should be charged with hate crime

Shameful
