The royal family

Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

I support them. After watching the Netflix documentary, you can see how differently they are treated. You can see how differently Meghan was treated by the media compared to Kate.

Everyone who I know in real life supports them. I think the non-supporters just tend to be more vocal (and very much alive on Twitter).

EddietheEagle · 02/01/2023 22:36

I don't know anyone who supports them. I find them irrelevant and irritating

PrincessofWellies · 02/01/2023 22:36

Happy New Year everyone . . .

GloomyDarkness · 02/01/2023 22:37

I don't know anyone "supportive".

More faults on both sides but depends on last media story - but most people are indifferent till there's yet another story.

I think more and more people hope media will start not to pick up as many stories - and they do to me increasing seem whinny - but people did watch the Netflix TV show and doubtless will read at least the first book - fuck knows why - and some of those will doubtless be in the "supportive" camp and some may be influenced and end up there.

However most people I know it feels more like indifference or at best superficial interest.

Me too. I think they were treated awfully.

By whom ?

Lurkerlot · 02/01/2023 22:40

That doesn’t play out in my circle either, where out of my 14 odd close friends, the only one who buys into the H&M hating happens to read the Daily Heil. All others support them. Even the one who proudly announces he is a royalist.

PrinceHaz · 02/01/2023 22:40

Certain newspapers and online news sources have a rapacious desire to make money by publishing articles about anything Meghan related. They will appeal to the misogynists and the racists and generally to the lowest common denominator.
it must hurt Harry deeply that he hasn’t been able to make his family understand that the treatment of his wife by sections of the press is different as there is a race focus that other royal family members have not had to suffer.
I don’t know if I support them, as I don’t know them. I do know that sections of the media have gone out of their way to appeal to people’s prejudices with the ultimate aim of money making. It’s incredible how Meghan and Harry can withstand it. They must consciously avoid reading articles and social media comments to save their sanity.

NibbledSwitch · 02/01/2023 22:40

The OP is obviously a sychofantic subject of the Royal Family

purpledalmation · 02/01/2023 22:41

I hope the people supporting them are also happy that Americans and people abroad regard us all as racists as a direct result of their vitriol?

I work internationally in my job and while this might seem a minor spat they are painting the whole of the U.K. in a negative light. I do think they are causing much wider damage than most people think and are creating a negative view of the U.K. abroad.

I find it really hard to believe you have any level of seniority in international trade if you genuinely believe H&M are the reason why the UK is now a laughing stock.

Anyone with half a brain who doesn’t read the Sun or the DM knows they were thrown under the bus by the Royal Family, most likely to protect the reputation of more senior royals. The way they have been treated is terrible and the tabloids are very much to blame.

Fieldfly · 02/01/2023 22:41

IRL they don’t come up in conversation much, and if they do it’s with an eye roll or as a joke. With people who I have spoken in more depth most thought they were great, lovely wedding etc etc but are now very sad at what’s happened and disappointed in how they are behaving. Personally I think moving to another country was a sensible idea - they could have had a lovely life if they had been able to resist giving interviews / arty photo shots / lecturing people etc. Harry appears not to understand that he is basically trolling himself. He seems to blame everyone else for everything, but some of things - curtseying, national anthem etc were on him to tell Megan. She apparently didn’t realise what marrying into the royals would be like - he should have told her! Did they not discuss it in depth before marrying? And if not she should have asked - she was a grown up, independent woman who’d already been married once, not an inexperienced young girl.

As someone who is not white and has experienced racism my whole life, yes, I am glad they are exposing the racism that is rife within the press and the Royal Family.

saffronrabbit · 02/01/2023 22:42

They (Meghan) were badly treated by the media, as have all the royals been at some point. It's awfully unfair, and must be difficult to take. However I believe she had the power to turn it around eventually, she is strong, very intelligent, an excellent communicator, absolutely beautiful and talented, she had maturity and charisma on her side as well as a supportive and devoted husband. She also had the publics's support (for the most part) and I do think she had the RF's support (knowing how vulnerable Harry is they were probably slow to trust and a bit wary, and also a bit formal and stuffy but I think their hearts were in the right place)

Meghan would've been a valuable secret weapon for the RF, she could've made herself indispensable, and made huge changes from within.

It is very sad they've resorted to mud slinging at the RF, getting personal and stretching the truth, in the worldwide media. It's an absolute shit show and Harry seems to be becoming more an more unhinged. They are further away from those who care about them than they've ever been before, whoever is advising them is either completely clueless or worse still doesn't have their best interests at heart.

It's very sad and in Harry's own words 'it didn't need to be this way'

You genuinely think that someone who has a degree in international relations didn’t look into what marrying into the royal family would mean?
Anyway my point was really about whether the overwhelming negativity is getting back to them and therefore if it would maybe make them reign back their destructive pathway they are on.

And maybe other people's point is that they dont agree there's overwhelming negativity.

The typo did make me laugh though Grin

Spck · 02/01/2023 22:44

@purpledalmation so right there - think it’s v narrow minded of people not to think of this

onlylarkin · 02/01/2023 22:45

I think @GloomyDarkness makes a very good point.

It will be interesting to see how the press moves forward from here. If they are estranged, there will be no palace sources stories.

I have said this before but I believe that the press will turn on either Camilla or Catherine next. I can already see some negative press surrounding Camilla. Which is sad because both Camilla and Catherine

It is always easier from the outside looking in, but this would be the perfect opportunity for H&M and the RF to band together to overhaul the press relations. That, to me, would be modernizing the RF.

Everyone I know is unsupportive

This probably says a lot more about your friends and family and the kind of people they are than about H&M (and to be honest, I really couldn't give a shit about them or any of the rest of the Royal family, haven't watched the Netflix series and really don't follow anything royal. I just find it absolutely bizzar that people can find so much time and hate for this couple when there are actual murderers, rapists, pedophiles, dictators, etc. that these people who HATE M&H don't seem to have any opinion on)

Are your friends and family talking with as much passion about Putin, Andrew Tate, Kanye West, Prince Andrew and such?

SylviasMotherSaid · 02/01/2023 22:46

I don’t mind them but most of my friends dislike them or are just not that into the whole thing . I have ordered Harry’s book and can’t wait to read it . I do feel he’s in danger of being over exposed at the moment along with Megan and hopefully after this book is released they stay out of the limelight for a while as I think regardless of who they are everyone gets a bit bored of seeing the same famous person make headlines daily . I just worry about the more important stories people aren’t seeing when the focus seems to have been on the Royal Family big time for about a year now .

OnTheRoadAgain1 · 02/01/2023 22:46

PrincessofWellies · 02/01/2023 22:07

It isn't the stuff the tabloids write about them that is the problem. It is the actual words that are coming out of Harry and Meghans mouths that are obviously lies.

Such as?

toocold54 · 02/01/2023 22:51

I think it’s really odd that the people who claim to dislike them are the ones that keep making threads about them.
There must be at least 3 threads a day moaning about them.

I support them (I’d hate to be born in the RF) and everyone I know supports them and their supporters keep increasing in numbers.

If you don’t like them then stop watching the documentary, stop reading or listening to every interview they do and most importantly stop talking about them.

Ineedwinenow · 02/01/2023 22:52

I don’t support them, I would have done had they chosen a different path after they stepped back! They could have done amazing things but to constantly give interviews on the world stage about your family is unacceptable!

If they put as much effort into charities or projects as they do playing the victim they could achieve greatness! It’s all very sad and I feel Harry ( and possibly Meghan) need some kind of help and support.

They now need to focus on their lives and moving forward, apparently Meghan and Harry only did 72 engagements as a Royal couple but it will be soon 3 years since they stepped back and they haven’t moved on from their past at all but keep reliving it, it isn’t healthy or sustainable for a happy life

I’m the long run I wish them happiness but I definitely don’t support them at the moment, I would like to think if the situation changes in the future and they do move forward I will be a supporter of them once again

Me too - everyone!

Whynowwhynow · 02/01/2023 22:53

Everyone I know really doesn’t care apart from wishing they would go away and live the private lives they asked for.

None of my friends are royalists but everyone seems to respect the history behind the monarchy.

saffronrabbit · 02/01/2023 22:54

'Anyway my point was really about whether the overwhelming negativity is getting back to them and therefore if it would maybe make them reign back their destructive pathway'

Either they aren't getting a true picture of how negatively they are being received, and are satisfied that they are gaining support (incompetent / malicious advisors)

Or

They ARE getting accurate feedback but are blaming it on racist reporting and not holding themselves and their actions accountable. (No self awareness)

Or

They are in a runaway train they can't get off, interviews and deals have been put in place a while ago and they are watching in horror along with the rest of us.

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/01/2023 22:55

I don’t know a single person in RL who is not rolling their eyes and wishing they’d shut up, whenever they’re mentioned. I don’t think I live in an echo chamber, I know a lot of people, but who knows.
