Harry and Meghan's show is number 1 on Netflix in the UK and US. Did you watch it people of Mumsnet?

I’m half way through the first episode and not sure I’ll get to the end. It’s very dull. Guess I have no interest in a “great love story” of two rather boring people who I don’t know. I was hoping for more mud slinging I guess. But they are a pair of self absorbed nitwits who see themselves as a great Romeo and Juliet wronged lovers story.

OP are you M or H. Maybe you work for Netflix but you really are pushing this.

An H&M stan 😀

Not fair lol

Why’s it not fair? It’s my opinion which I’m entitled to. Glad if you find it interesting but seems a lot of people disagree with you. I was sat in the hairdressers today and the consensus was most people didn’t finish episode 1 and thought it was dull.

The nitwits bit 😄

But you gave it a go, so 👌

@LemonSwan i agree about the vibes from Harry.

It was like he totally wasn’t in on the “Haha I was so clueless and American!” flippancy that Meghan is showing. Like he was catching her hamming herself up for the first time and it was strange and disappointing for him.

I think she must usually present herself to him as supremely together, confident and educated and he was watching her “act” the clueless American for the first time and maybe even seeing her as “an actress” for the first time…. Interesting to see.

Mumsnut · 09/12/2022 17:11

Nope.

@LemonSwan can you clarify if that's what you felt? this is a new perspective for me 🤔

I watched it, waited for the big revelations but there weren’t any. There was some really interesting content about the history of the commonwealth though - I thought that both Afua Hirsch and Misan Harriman were great, giving very clear and tangible explanations and viewpoints.
Also when they both talked about being children of divorced parents - two families, two houses, always on the move etc. I thought that was genuine.

The look on his face, I imagine, when she was taking the piss out of curtseying to the queen. That was a very uncomfortable, awkward, embarrassed look on Harry's face. One of the most powerful human emotions is shame. I saw it there, before he recovered himself to smile and shuffle.

I've met 'senior' royalty at charity functions and I have never curtseyed or bowed. I won't. I don't have to. It's utter bollocks.

The 'Mehgan had to curtsey' narrative is really bloody odd. She would never have been made to, even to the queen.

I agree and to me his look is like someone who looks at their partner when they've seen a red flag moment but are choosing to ignore their gut feeling. One of those moments you look back on and all those moments add up and feel annoying with yourself for not going with your gut.

I'll go and watch that scene again, I didn't get that impression at all.

Or maybe he was feeling embarrassed about not having prepared her better?

@AutumnCrow and @Redwineandroses I agree with you both. It’s not an emotion you often see so it’s hard to pin down but I think you’ve both hit the nail on the head there.

Cheeseandhoney · 09/12/2022 17:32

I think he looked at her like that as it was bullshit . She was lying. No such thing happened.

as for “having” to its more it was an expectation, a mark of respect, and very few people meeting the queen when marrying into that family would refuse to do so

harry himself was disingenuous, he said how do you explain you have to bow to your grandmother. He knows the answer to that, and it’s because she is not just your grandmother, she was the queen. So he was hardly defending meghans mocking or our apparently medieval customs,

As I've said before, he let her down in that sense. I can't get over him not teaching her the national anthem, i'm surprised he's not pulled up on that a lot more.

I watched it to try and understand what each saw in the other. Although I am not a fan of her, it is easy to see what Harry saw in Meghan. Less easy (impossible) to see what Meghan saw in Harry beyond the obvious (his celebrity and wealth). But I have never been a fan of Harry. Boy, is he a stupid and highly spoilt child. Almost entirely his mother's fault, I'm sorry to say. This is what I found jarring in their relationship. The obvious discrepancy in intellect.

I didn't care for the American view of British culture and history either. It is obviously all leading up to the conclusion we are all racist and narrow minded and our society is too toxic for highly enlightened Americans.

Oh and one other thing. How does Harry square his distaste for our colonial past with 2 stints of active service in Afghanistan? He actually told us he went to war - twice - as though that made him a superior person to the rest of us.

No, how strong am I! My sister said it is the pity party the trailer suggests, which definitely doesn't appeal.

Jeez OP you are obsessed! Are you part of Meg and Haz’s comms team or part of the production or something? Sounds like you are trying to peddle their scanty wares. Dreadful pair and I had to stop watching shortly in to 2nd episode because I was feeling nauseated and bored. Absolute bag of crap. As one of the papers said “ about as welcome as a turd in a Christmas stocking!”

Ok, I’ll concede she isn’t a nitwit. Just a totally self absorbed individual. He’s a nitwit though. 😁
