Harry and Meghan's show is number 1 on Netflix in the UK and US. Did you watch it people of Mumsnet?

There was very little actual content.

There was certainly nothing new. The press were horrible to Meghan, as they have been to all women who married in but this time with a bit of racism as well. Meghan wasn't prepared for what life would be like in the royal family. Their relationship is oh so special and they're the Greatest Love Story of our times. Oh, and both Harry and Meghan are basically Diana reincarnated, because they're all such wonderfully good and kind people who rarely make mistakes and always learn from their errors.

You know what, that's fair do's - cynical but still fair do's 😅

I watched it out of curiosity and enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
I even found it quite moving in one or two places

I flip flopped back and worth from enjoying it and being annoyed by it. It’s really well made and easy watching. Beautiful imagery and they are both easy to listen to. But then I would also have this annoyance about just why can’t you be happy. They have everything they need and I don’t think they truly realise their privilege when the vast majority in U.K. will be not only watching this, but side eyeing the smart meter.

Certainly on the whole glad I watched. Interesting to see their view on it, or at-least the view they wish to portray.

There is something odd though that I couldn’t pin down. I left feeling confused about their relationship, mainly from Harry’s side. I can’t articulate it because I don’t actually know what it was. Something just felt slightly off.

Meghan came across really well. Thousand times better than Oprah. It did take time to get past the Americanness of her character/ the way she speaks but I think after an episode or so it helped and I could actually see Meghan under their more. I do think this Americanness is part of why she struggled in U.K. here it comes off disingenuous and fake. Our cultures are so similar we expect Americans to be the same when they are actually different beings entirely. A shame as could see she would have been fab in the royal family.

HideousKinky · 09/12/2022 15:54

For example the bit about how they had in common that they were both children of divorced parents and then she was able to recite, word for word, a poem she wrote at school about living between her 2 parents' homes - this brought a lump to my throat. I could have written that poem as a little girl

Georgeskitchen · 09/12/2022 15:57

I can't really get past why they are trashing the only thing that gives them any relevance......the Royal family. Without them Meghan would still be a Z list actress than barely anyone outside the USA had ever heard of.
A smidgeon of gratitude for the exposure to the world and then quietly fuck off into oblivion (which they said they wanted) would have been more acceptable.
But that wouldn't bring in any $$$$$

I'm really disappointed you said this, where did they trash the family?

If anything I've seen people call the series boring and lacking attacks or outrage.

What was off about Harry's side? I genuinely want to understand if you don't mind digging a bit deeper. Thank you.

I couldn't related to that experience but I'm glad that resonated with you 🤗

How many other much-hyped brand new releases has Netflix put out in the last 60 days? (Since October really isn't an accolade when you stop and think about it)

As this is a time when Netflix is losing subscribers, I should think their viewing numbers are down, and I would be concerned if a new show didn't draw them in

I think Emily in Paris is back nearer Xmas. That's quite a popular one.

Calling Meghan a liar isn't forming an opinion based on hearsay, it's an opinion based on the words straight out of her mouth. She stated they were married in a private ceremony with just her, Harry and the bishop. That was an out and out lie. It never happened. She is a liar.

You'll have an apoplectic fit when you learn what our MPs have been up to then! Grin

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 09/12/2022 16:15

No. It sounds as if it was mostly quite boring so I'm glad I watched The Traitor instead. Now that I found absolutely gripping and can't wait for the next episode (damn you BBC).

LadyWithLapdog · 09/12/2022 16:16

I’ll be watching it, or at least giving it a try. I’m not a ‘fan’ of H&M, but I’m definitely sympathetic. Harry’s stupid past behaviour somewhat redeemed by his courage to leave it all behind. I hope I won’t be disappointed.

BonnesVacances · 09/12/2022 16:22

Interesting, I've seen a few people call it dull or boring, maybe vol 2 will be a bit more outrageous 😀

3 hours of footage and all people have been able to criticise is her mocking her curtesy the first time she met the queen.

After the media whipped everyone into a frenzy with made up quotes about the RF, it turned out to be nothing of the sort.

People must be incandescent with disappointment.

Coldhouseflowers · 09/12/2022 16:25

Let’s face it this series has been done for more MONEY. The way Megan mimicked her curtesy made me feel nauseous. She’s so sickly !

I'm not disappointed, the duller the better. I think there's enough drama in life already and the quicker we can move on the better.

Were you really expecting Netflix to say anything else?

Sickly, nauseous? if Meghan has enough power to make you feel that way, please get some help. She was being self-deprecating, poking fun at how bad her own curtesy was in the beginning 😐

The trailer edit did make it seem rather outrageous 😂

Maybe next week will give them something to be properly mad about 😅

I'd rather watch paint dry to be honest - I wish they would both bore off and lead the private life they claim they left the UK for.

Except they never claimed any of that, it was a narrative spurn by tabloids.

OP are you M or H. Maybe you work for Netflix but you really are pushing this.

GentlySobbing · 09/12/2022 16:40

I've watched the first two. It was like being punched in the face by a person (Meghan) screeching LIKE ME LIKE ME LIKE ME. It's not a fantastic piece of journalism, it's a puff piece.

Overall it's a shame that this analysis of British culture has been done by Americans, for Americans. It means that the issues are obscured by the American perspective, and issues that are obscured are not going to be fixed. For example, I don't believe that there was any mention of the abandoned Leveson inquiry at all - quite an astonishing omission considering the focus on British media intrusion.
