Here is previous thread.

I've started a new thread because today and tomorrow is crucial as far as the pending civil case.

And I also had a few comments I wanted to say to posters at the end of the last thread, but it ran out.

@whachatalkinaboutwillis

I am calling him "the Queen's rapist son" now. He shouldn't be Prince anything. Andrew Mountbatten isn't it? Can we stick to that?
Disagree. A huge part of the problem is the privilege, secrecy and special treatment that comes from being part of this insanely anachronistic institution. The Firm has rallied round him, who are we to dissociate him from it? He’s a prince, and he’s acting like one, i.e. the rules don’t apply to him.

@Puzzledandpissedoff

If it does proceed to trial, his lawyers would be wise to avoid him testifying unless he is forced to

As I've said so often, there won't be a trial. If it got moved to the UK it would be squashed instantly, and any attempt to try him in the US would almost cer tainly bring forth an "illness" or whatever to make it impossible

As you rightly suggest, the idea of him being questioned rigorously by top lawyers is unthinkable considering what his standard of intelligence landed him in even with Emily Maitlis

Yes, the British Royal Family would make sure a trial never happened in Britain. He would have to provide medical proof that he was too ill for a trial in the US surely? I can imagine it as a delaying tactic, I cant imagine it working long term though.
RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 12:58

@Newyearoldyou

A main premise of the Emily matlis interview was that he was friends with "her" not him. Again who would advise him that was an easy route out?

Who didn't think ahead and say.. Hang on, what if she is convicted? Either they are scared of him or or they are thick.
I go for the former.

I suspect Andrew thought it was the best defence and refused to consider any other. Which now she is convicted, leaves him in the shit. He has stated on TV he was friends with her. He can't deny that now.
StormzyinaTCup · 03/01/2022 13:00

On the Queen meeting with PA after the TV interview:

According to The Sun, the 59-year-old prince told his mother, The Queen, that his interrogation by Emily Maitlis was “a great success.”

Speaking to the paper, a friend of Andrew’s said: “The Duke went to church with the Queen and was heard telling her it’s all been a great success.

“He thinks he’s done the right thing and has put the criticism to rest. He was all smiles and was looking very buoyant and happy.”

Prince Andrew’s optimism has surprised many, with former royal correspondent Peter Hunt tweeting: “A new definition of the word ‘success.'”

The source continued to tell The Sun: “He’s told his friends and advisers he is delighted because he thought he acquitted himself well.

“He’s cock-a-hoop. He seriously believes he’s pulled off a master triumph. It’s astonishing.

No one has the heart to tell him that he’s delusional — and this is the overall problem. He’s surrounded by people who tell him what he wants to hear.

“Yesterday he was looking happier than he has been for months, totally unaware his interview had caused a firestorm of criticism.”

Amazing!!!

diddl · 03/01/2022 13:02

I wonder if the interview was rehearsed in any way at all?

I get that his daughters love him but if there was any idea of how he would come across...

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 13:03

I remember reading that he wanted to do a second interview to clear a few things up.

Newyearoldyou · 03/01/2022 13:05

Well yes! And she was his main link as it were!!

He invited her and he was just a plus one

I do feel sorry for his daughters, they have been through a lot and look at their parents.
I would be utterly ashamed and mortified if this was my dh but look at how to families stand by feckless sons.

Quick glance on here we saw recently a few threads about devoted dils, spending decades including, buying, arranging nice things for their in laws only to be dropped like a hot potato at the first sign the darling son /brother wanted out of the marriage.

Or worse the recent spate of child murders and the family blaming someone's else, they changed around x and so on!!

Newyearoldyou · 03/01/2022 13:06

A second interview 🤣.... Those poor aides 🤣

Newyearoldyou · 03/01/2022 13:09

People are afraid of him, no one can tell him no, he has the personal protection of mummy, and this is what he gets.

I wonder if the other royals are more self reflective and able to see this is where he has gone wrong and ask for genuine feedback??

Newyearoldyou · 03/01/2022 13:12

Stormzy I felt his interview came from the pov, I'm darling Prince Andrew... He of the clenched Rose teeth triumph.

I know the public loves me so here is is.. Calm down folks "my team" (our team sorry as all you viewers and beyond are paying for it) are working on shutting up this gold digging flusey so don't worry and to boot.. I've worked for the nspcc, calm down dears. "

I really hope a forensic look into his funds gets done.

Thoosa · 03/01/2022 13:15

And as I said on the first thread, what about all Andrew will know about the rest of them, particularly his elder brother who'll soon be the one "in charge"?

I somehow don’t feel that PA has close knowledge of PC’s doings (whatever they might be).

If they piss him off too much it would be only too easy to feed stories to the media; after all the RF do it all the time, so sidelining him could create more problems than it solves

Once HMQ is gone, I am quite sure PC will find ways to keep PA in line. Even an extradition might be possible if the establishment agrees to it.

TheKeatingFive · 03/01/2022 13:15

Well I'm glad someone managed to talk him out of a second interview!

Roussette · 03/01/2022 13:16

Storm

Oh my god, what on earth does that mean now I wonder, if he has sqaid the marriage is over Shock

And your post on his buoyancy after the interview, oh my golly good god.

I remember Maitlis going on record to say how delighted he was with it afterwards.

Doesn't that tell us all we need to know?

It's one of those interviews (like the Diana one)... I remember where I was and what I was doing. I stopped everything and stood in front of my kitchen telly, mouth agape. Whilst it was going on, I whatsapped my best friend and said to her... are you watching this? She was and we were absolutely transfixed with the awfulness of it.

I thought I remembered reading that Fergie and Bea tried to dissuade him from doing the interview but he wouldn’t listen. Might have that wrong, though.

If it’s true, though, imagine having less media savvy than Fergie of all people.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/01/2022 13:17

I'll say again I'm amazed no-one's apparently been willing to give him a "can't sweat" letter, but an actual trial would involve bigger stakes

Even some doctors can be dodgy, and if it came to it I'm quite sure they could find one who'd do the necessary in order to get themselves out of a hole

Roussette · 03/01/2022 13:18

@Newyearoldyou

I am liking your posts and totally agree with them.

Let's see if the RF now reflect on this debacle.

And let's have some transparency on his finances. Where did all the money come from??????

Frankly that may well be the best hope Charles has got ...

Roussette · 03/01/2022 13:20

Thoosa Bea set the interview up! She was instrumental and encouraged him to do it and went with him to preliminary meetings with Maitlis/BBC

Can’t argue with that.

SpindleSpangle · 03/01/2022 13:21

@Roussette

RoyalFF

Yes! If the carcrash interview is anything to go by, he is the world's worst liar.
Dramatic pauses, shaking of his head, mouth hanging open, nonsense excuses.... US justices would have a field day

I have this vision now of Andrew York being verbally evicerated in a courtroom by ADA Rafael Barba.

But Maitlis in real life was every bit as dangerous.

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 13:22

@Puzzledandpissedoff even if he got a letter from a dodgy Dr saying he couldn't fly for a trial in the US, he also wouldn't be able to go anywhere else. The press would be following wanting to get photos of the supposedly ill Andrew on a ski slope or similar.

Thoosa · 03/01/2022 13:23

Whaaat? They’re all mad, then.

I wonder where I got the contrary impression from?

TBH, I stopped following the story for a while after the Maitlis interview. (Except for VF - I subscribe to that.)

Roussette · 03/01/2022 13:23

Maitlis was superb.

When she eventually commented on the interview. She talked of how he was delighted at how it had gone, but how she knew that it was just dynamite and a moment in history that had just happened.

OP posts:
Roussette · 03/01/2022 13:28

Thoosa

Here you go.

She set it up with her father, she met Maitlis beforehand and she's been crying ever since at how it went down. (obviously not still crying lol)

She wanted to do this to set the record straight before her wedding so the article says. NO idea if that's true of course. I just linked the first news source, there are others.

CathyorClaire · 03/01/2022 13:29

There have been conflicting reports on whether Fergie and Bea encouraged him to do it. First they did then they...didn't.

The only one who fell on their sword for it was his private secretary Amanda Thirsk who in the usual royal way was quietly brought back in to the fold in a different role.
