Prince Harry revealed in his Oprah interview that the Sussexes stopped receiving money from the royal family in the first quarter of 2020. However, newly published accounts reveal that Prince Charles continued to financially support the Sussexes until summer 2020.

I wonder if this is going to be a case of their truth or incorrect wording on Harry’s behalf. Interesting!

@PicsInRed

They could have toddled off to a country pad in the UK, stepped back from most royal duties and still had full security.

That's simply not true. If they weren't full time working royals, they would receive security only on engagements - which obviously leave them and their small children open to being horribly murdered outside working hours (and the kids whenever not with their parents). Not best outcome, you'd presumably agree.

To top that off, they did try the country house thing, and someone came with a helicopter and took pictures of all the rooms, grounds etc. and splashed it all over the papers. So they had to forfeit that idea and go for Frogmore instead.

@MissyB1

who knew he was such a dickhead

Well I sort of suspected when he dressed up as a Nazi for a laugh....

Did you feel the same way when William dressed us as a Zulu and told someone, don't worry we won't be eating crocodile or anything. He then told his friends they can be 'savage zulus' and people can come black face to his party.
@Mummy194 you forgot the Sussex foundation they opened and closed and left behind after spending hundreds of thousands to set it up? This is small money for the anyways. Keep those Netflix snippets coming! Lots of expense coming with big house, bigger family and all and luxury does not come cheap.
Not too sure what your point is. They were not allowed to keep Sussex Foundation, that belongs to the palace. They could divide everything up between the remaining royals, since they told H&M to off off.

H&M pretty much spent the last extended year wrapping things up with those charities. Didn't Sophie or someone take over Commonwealth?

Redcrayons · 24/06/2021 14:19

Whether he meant first quarter of the calendar year or financial year, makes no difference. it’s still a hugely wealthy grown man whining about having to dip His hands into his very deep pockets because his dad won’t pay for him.

Mummy194 · 24/06/2021 14:36

I'd assume there's not been a whisper about that as they haven't been complaining about being cut off?

What would W&K complain about. They have not been cut off. They have the luxury of being protected no matter what they do and H&M have to bear the brunt.

Even this nonsense little story now. W&K took private jets costing the taxpayer almost 700K during a pandemic. The RF spent more money than ever despite slimming down and the story is all about H&H and how they said they got cut off beginning of the year last year, paid for Frogmore, thereby offsetting the loss for this year. And apparently, they alluded to being cut off in March instead of April or something like that.

DogsSausages · 24/06/2021 14:37

Even if they wanted the UK to pay for their security would the US have to pay half as MM is a US citizen and the kids have dual citizenship. Were they expecting the UK to pay for it all.

PicsInRed · 24/06/2021 14:38

@DogsSausages

Maybe they will inherit even more money when other family members die.
Not if they predeceased their relatives due to lack of security.

Yes! All this guff covers up the other costs on that list! £700k on private jets? What about the 2 million on helicopters? Where were they going? We couldnt leave the country!

Supersimkin2 · 24/06/2021 15:57

Rich kids aren't sent off to shelf-stack in Tesco the second they turn 16. Standard practice, as it has remains after centuries, is to support your DC as much as you can - especially the boys.

This usually means the DC float about in charidee or media 'jobs' part-time until they're about 50 when Daddy dies and more funds become available.

The Met have made very clear that their security here was, and would have continued to be, based on the risk assessment and need.

It was the going abroad that stopped the security. Not the change in position.

I don't understand his 'my family cut me off financially' statement - what sort of entitled person thinks they're family should be paying for them once they're an adult, he'd already had 7 mil from his mother, why should his dad be financially supporting him? He doesn't want to be a royal, that's fine, but he's 36 years old for gods sake and bleating that his family aren't paying his keep. I just find him more and more pathetic and dislikeable by the day.

TBF THIS ^^

He’s a 36 yr old married man with a family bleating that daddy isn’t paying his pocket money anymore to the tune of £2.5 million, and that the British tax payer won’t fund him for doing nothing whilst he lives it up in Montecito, when he had over £12 million (I think) plus Megan had around £4 million in the bank! Maybe they could just have cut their cloth according to their income like all of us have to?
This.

Bleating does make him money and keep him relevant though.

DogsSausages · 24/06/2021 16:21

Pic, who do you think should pay for their security now that they live in America and no longer carry out Royal duties.

Amortentia · 24/06/2021 16:26

@Oldbutstillgotit

In addition to the money his Mum left him , H also received a substantial inheritance from the QM. Apparently she left more to him that W. I do think H and M were unrealistic to expect financial support when they stepped down. In any event they seem to have made themselves financially independent as desired .
I read something recently that said that the story about the QM leaving more money to Harry was nonsense spin. The truth was that she frequently saw William and had little to do with Harry. She had no time for a spare and left more to William in her will.
Dozer · 24/06/2021 16:26

End of Q1 of 20/21 financial year is the summer.

And from 2002

Mummy194 · 24/06/2021 16:50

@Amortentia

Yes, recently Forbes had a different story about the inheritance. But I think it alluded to the Queen mother depts, rather than a favouritism to William.

It seems she did not leave any.

Other stories say, the money is locked up till a certain date. Interestingly, Clarence House does not refer to it at all. Quite cheeky of them to name the sum from Diana though.

Where were they going indeed.

A smokescreen if I ever saw one.

Charles financially supported the Sussexes until summer 2020
DogsSausages · 24/06/2021 17:01

Mummy, is that the same article in Forbes that ended with M&H could end up being a $1bn dollar brand.

Nanasueathome · 24/06/2021 17:04

It’s Omid Scobie that has stated about the timeline
You know him, their official spokesperson
His name appears at the top of the tweet in the papers, you missed that bit off Mummy

Crimeismymiddlename · 24/06/2021 17:14

Harry has been giving me a good laugh with his over privileged, and tone deaf whining. The fact that he is seeming more and more unpleasant by the day, while complaining about being cut off financially at the age of 38, seemingly blind to how the RF are using him to cover up all the issues Prince Andrew has caused me particularly amusement. I mainly feel sorry for Tyler Perry, an extremely decent hard working individual who created an empire out of nothing and contributes so much to society floating them for a few months-because they were sooooo poor. I am sure he had his reasons and maybe wanted to cultivate a relationship that was mutually beneficial, but they must have been very expensive, and he will never see a return on his investment as they only take, never give.

100% this should be the focus, of course hiding it behind a story on H&M so people focus on that instead of how what the royal family have spent is the whole point. Why else all these stories about them some of them utter garbage. They are the punching bag for the royal family who get away plain sailing whilst they take the brunt.

Think its absolutely disgusting they spent that much money during the pandemic none of what they did was absolutely necessary and completed tone deaf to people whove lost jobs etc. Whilst they swan about spending on private jets 🙄
