Prince Harry revealed in his Oprah interview that the Sussexes stopped receiving money from the royal family in the first quarter of 2020. However, newly published accounts reveal that Prince Charles continued to financially support the Sussexes until summer 2020.

I wonder if this is going to be a case of their truth or incorrect wording on Harry’s behalf. Interesting!

@DogsSausages

Don't recall reading that, it was a while back.

@Nanasueathome
It does not matter if it's Scobie - who is somehow disliked on MN because he does not go around hating on H&M. It's true, even on a link I did previously from GMB, they are saying the same thing.

SallyLockheart · 24/06/2021 17:30

mummy where is this figure of £700k on private jets reported?

DogsSausages · 24/06/2021 17:30

Mummy, I think it might be March 10, 2021. Forbes Inside The Firm

Mummy194 · 24/06/2021 17:42

The figure are on the report.

I'm not completely sure @DogsSausages, though I believe article was along the lines that H&M do not have as much money as people think. It definitely concentrated on them. But, I would not be surprised if there are numerous articles ofcourse.

SallyLockheart · 24/06/2021 17:49

sorry to be obtuse but where exactly in the report. have looked and clearly missing finding that info .....................

PicsInRed · 24/06/2021 17:57

@DogsSausages

Pic, who do you think should pay for their security now that they live in America and no longer carry out Royal duties.
Now that they're minted, they should.

The point is, they suddenly had to pay for that security, which is why they signed media deals and the deal with Netflix. Yet those who say they should pay for themselves now don't like the means what other high paying role was available to "retired Prince" presumably preferring them to take taekwondo classes and concealed carry to make more of a match for the actual Nazis planning murder them (and their kids?).

@cyclingmad

I do agree. How on earth can the taxpayer stump up an etra £18M for the 20/21 compared to the previous year when there is a pandemic?

I know there is a lot of property renovation but still....

One item that confuses me, and I've seen it all listed out.

£5M Charles's tax bill

So we pay taxes for this Sovereign Grant and then part of it is Charles's tax bill and hang on a minute, can't that come out of his Duchy profits?

The royal train tour to Scotland (whilst a lockdown was on) cost £47,965. Three days, that much

I’m curious as to the source you have Mummy194 for providing the information to you that Prince William told his birthday party guests to come blackface. They do seem to have ignored the birthday boy’s instructions but I’d love to know who he said that to and how he told them - on the invitation? Over text? Email? On the phone?

Mummy194 · 24/06/2021 18:00

@PicsInRed

Yes, they must learn self defence against Neo-nazis apparently. 😂😂

PicsInRed · 24/06/2021 18:02

The Met have made very clear that their security here was, and would have continued to be, based on the risk assessment and need.

They were reassessed as low risk despite nazi racist lunatics being sent to prison for specifically plotting to kill them, as well as the usual threats re: Harry's middle east service and general racists wanting to turn back time on black people inside the royal family. The risk assessment was obviously nonsense, but there it was and security was denied. They then did whatever deals necessary to make money and pay private security ...which was a pretty obvious outcome to anyone with any foresight (obviously none of that amongst our nation's courtiers).

Bovrilly · 24/06/2021 18:16

The risk assessment was obviously nonsense, but there it was and security was denied.

What are you basing this on, have you seen the risk assessment and all the intelligence? Or do you think that reading something in the paper means that you are better qualified to assess the risk than the Met?

Basing on: ongoing death threats and a real life racist nazi plot to kill them (which involved trial and conviction).
ajandjjmum · 24/06/2021 18:49

@PicsInRed

They could have toddled off to a country pad in the UK, stepped back from most royal duties and still had full security.

That's simply not true. If they weren't full time working royals, they would receive security only on engagements - which obviously leave them and their small children open to being horribly murdered outside working hours (and the kids whenever not with their parents). Not best outcome, you'd presumably agree.

They'd be in the same position as other members of the Royal Family - included the Queen's actual children - who have security when the Met deem it necessary. No need for drama.

Rousette. Are you reading the accounts right - where is the extra £18m from the taxpayer. 21 referes to 20/21 - ie the pandemic year - and 20 refers to 19/20 -ie non pandemic year largely.

Roussette · 24/06/2021 19:06

"The Royal Family: British public paid Royal Family £85.9 million this year, according to accounts
Taxpayers paid £18.1 million more than last year"

Taken from an Express article.

"The British public reportedly paid the Royal Family £85.9 million in taxes during to 2020-2021 tax year, according to accounts.

Accounts for the Sovereign Grant show the monarchy cost the taxpayer £87.5 million during 2020/21 – an increase of £18.1 million on the previous financial year"

SallyLockheart · 24/06/2021 19:11

ah. i thought we were still discussing Clarence House annual report which showed the expenditure made to support William and Harry. hence the confusion

SallyLockheart · 24/06/2021 19:21

When I look on the royal website there are only the financial statements for 19/20 so it would be useful to have the reference to the express article to see what data they are using

Great how an Express article is fine and reliable when it can be used against certain royals, but when they print anything critical of certain other royals, it's all 'lying tabloids, can't trust them, I never read them'.
SallyLockheart · 24/06/2021 19:32

the full accounts are here via the gov website for those people who like the full details!!

Roussette · 24/06/2021 19:33

@Skiptheheartsandflowers

I was just about to post this... when your post about the Express popped up

Sorry, it wasn't the Express, (although both those sources show the increase)

Royal.uk says £17.6million, up 26%

As I said, the BP refurbishment accounts for a lot of it.

Roussette · 24/06/2021 19:35

So, no, Skip I am not quoting the Express Hmm

SallyLockheart · 24/06/2021 19:35

Surprisingly not on the royal website, to be fair only published today and the Gov website says it has been laid before parliament, so not sure if that means it has be signed off/accepted by Parliament

Roussette · 24/06/2021 19:36

well Sally it's here, but not sure if this is 'the royal website'. No idea.
