I think it’s not a matter of either of them knowing how the RF works, but a matter of them caring.

They want to modernise the RF, they’ve said as much I think? And absolutely nothing wrong with that. Their mistake is in the arrogance they can just do it and thinking that they’re bigger then the institution.

Lovely new thread! Thrilled to have TheMustressMhor back ! Wineand Cake for all, I appreciated the Shakespeare translation ! .
It's been a long time since I read it at school and my poor brain no longer understands it Grin

DandyRaven · 22/02/2020 13:02

And as I said on the last thread, I think this quasi independence & entrepreneurialism has been their plan all along, they just expected the path to get to that point to be different.

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 13:03

I am not sure that my own poor brain every did understand Shakespeare.

I mean, not without a good deal of thought and concentration.

It wasn't impossible to comprehend but it took sustained effort on my part.

Q

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 13:13

To be honest, it's all playing out the way a few critics said it would, back at the start I disagreed and thought that was harsh .,had high hopes for the future.
Shows how quick shit hits the fan! Confused

TheMustressMhor · 22/02/2020 13:16

ilovejeff I agree. I was the same. I had such high hopes for MM and PH to start with.

I am so very disappointed in the pair of them now. Really reprehensible behaviour.

Praise for HMQ from business times!

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 13:22

TheMustressMhor , yes I find it all incredibly sad, if it had worked out , it would have modernised the RF and brought closer ties between the us and the UK !

ajandjjmum · 22/02/2020 13:24

From their statement -

they will still receive police protection because of Harry's military service and Meghan's "independent profile".

Did Meghan have/need protection before she met Harry? I didn't think her profile was that significant.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 13:24

I’ve just had a thought - what if the threat wasn’t to remove their titles but to remove Harry & therefore Archie from the line of succession. That would make sense of that weird wording in the Sussexes statement.

Interesting if true! Seems a few posters here, have the crystal ball!.
Link from business times for all the DM snobs!

OVienna · 22/02/2020 13:25

I thought she'd settle in too. I really didn't see this coming. Friends in California we're talking about the real estate purchase rumours though. I told them they were mad...oops.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 22/02/2020 13:27

they will still receive police protection because of Harry's military service

Are we going to provide police protection to the other 80,000 military personnel who have seen active service?

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 13:29

OVienna , yes we were all fooled!
CAN sounds very plausible, could be true , but sixth in line means little surely? It's doubtful he would ever ascend to the throne ?

Rainbows8117 · 22/02/2020 13:30

AJ I spotted that too. Again, not sure why they feel need to point out all these minute details. I'm not convinced before Prince Harry she needed the level of security she has now. I'm sure they do need security but a bit odd to make out she needs it for her independent profile.

yolofish · 22/02/2020 13:31

Oh all 3 of them are targets alright, H and A because they're 'royal blood', M because she married in to it. Maybe if she left, she wouldnt be a target, but they all are now.

Can you just imagine the headlines if some nutter kidnapped/killed them? (and obviously awful for them, that goes without saying).

ilovejeffgoldblum · 22/02/2020 13:33

One thing is for sure, the taxpayers funding their security is the most unpopular thing from this whole shitstorm, why should we fund them from another country, Canada don't want to either and I hate to think what Americans would say if they had to!

yolofish · 22/02/2020 13:35

yes the funding is an issue. Clearly they have to have security, but if they are not working for the taxpayer (ie doing royal duties) why should the taxpayer pay for it?

Grinchlywords · 22/02/2020 13:35

.

mrscampbellblackagain · 22/02/2020 13:36

I think everyone agrees they need security but not that tax payers should fund it. Not when they are going to abroad for most of the time - I can imagine their security costing more than the Queens which is madness.

They need to contribute to it.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 13:36

If that Blind gossip is correct about them backing down over the Royal title or else having them all removed, then I think they should fight back against this decision hard and not stand for it. I'd happily join a Sussex Royal campaign to insist they defy this decision and carry on using the term Royal abroad.

Rainbows8117 · 22/02/2020 13:39

They say if you relocate somewhere you really need to give yourself at least two years to adjust and settle. And that's just for us normal folk relocating to a new town in the same country. Never mind relocating to the otherside of the Atlantic and into the RF!

I think part of the problem is it feels MM never really gave being in the UK/RF a chance to work. I think she (and H) expected far too much and far too soon and have buggered off at the first sign of trouble. If they had just ignored the press, got their head down with their duties etc for a few years then I'm sure it could have settled, respect is then earned and then they could have started looking at new initiatives and MM would have been respected as a Royal in her own right the same way Kate is now, and that's what, after 10+ years of being with William?

They just seem to have no patience at all.
