That's not an argument that's my view . As I've said before - you have yours ,I have mine .We're both allowed to express them .

Yes and that's absolutely fine. But you're not just expressing your own interpretation. You're also stating that some (all?) of the people who disagree with you simply haven't read the statement and therefore do not have appropriate context. That's not politely respecting the views of others. It's rude and dismissive.

lilmishap · 24/02/2020 13:24

Pertito remember,,scroll on by...we don't want this thread deleted

Hmm, we don't actually know what it is that @peridito wants though, so let's not assume anything.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/02/2020 13:25

Isn't it strange how many things have come to pass, that those of us who were not fans of Meghan were hammered on earlier in this series of threads

It is indeed, though I'd add "sad" to the "strange". Nobody in their right mind would have actively wanted this, but sometimes you can clearly see things coming while still hoping to be wrong

the timing of the announcement was just before the end of their (Africa) tour, this does not mean that they were using the tour as a platform

Sorry, peridito; I know you're doing your best to find positives in this, but that's a bit of a stretch when it was perfectly obvious the interviews would eclipse all else. Neither of them lack experience in how the media work, so it's not as if they could even claim not to have known

And you seem to have hit something of a purple patch this morning, Bluntness - the whole thing summed up in a couple of stellar posts. I especially agree about the skilful way the place have (for once) handled this, but good luck persuading those who insist they've been cruel and unfeeling

Jillyhilly · 24/02/2020 13:27

It's like a minor bank clerk deciding they might agree to collaborate with the Head of the Bank of England.

That sums it up for me!

I read the statement in full a couple of times,
and found it quite astonishingly pompous and spiteful. “We don’t really need to drop the word Royal just because you say so, and we won’t be using it for now but that’s only because we’ve decided to, not because you told us to.” And I don’t see a grandmother being unsupportive towards her grandson - I see a monarch making the right decisions to protect the Crown. And a grandson allowing his 93 year old grandmother to be treated with great disrespect.

peridito · 24/02/2020 13:33

What has happened is that

H&M wanted to step down from being full time Royals to live a more independent life as a family and to remove the supposed ‘public
interest’ justification for media intrusion

The Queen decided they couldn't step down but needed to step out of the official RF bit .

They are staying in Canada and will be coming back to the UK for some official events .

and there has been a huge media interest ,lots of gossip and lots of criticism and outrage .

What is there to puzzle about or understand ?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/02/2020 13:34

Be interesting to see how many 'spontaneous' visits Meghan makes around Vancouver, once Harry is back in the UK at the end of the week

It'll also be interesting to see who gets any pap shots, considering that the last few were from an agency Meghan was involved with in her acting days, but with whom Harry was engaged in a legal action

Must have been a bit of a surprise to him when he saw the credits ...

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 24/02/2020 13:36

@Bluntness100 You have been spot on in all your assessments on this post-saying what I wish I had!!

peridito · 24/02/2020 13:37

lilmishap asking a question isn't actually a command to either stop or change the conversation.

Jillyhilly · 24/02/2020 13:39

Yes very good and enjoyable posts Bluntness.

peridito · 24/02/2020 13:39

You're also stating that some (all?) of the people who disagree with you simply haven't read the statement and therefore do not have appropriate context

where have I stated that Cohle ?

Wheresthebeach · 24/02/2020 13:40

Some people just want attention - good or bad doesn't matter and that's what these chippy statements are generating. They could be handling this with grace but instead it's just petulance.

I think keeping the door open for a year was initially for Harry's sake, but they may be forced just to cut all ties and leave them to their star studded future without any RF ties. As long as there are negotiations there is going to be all this public sniping which really needs to stop.

MorningCalm · 24/02/2020 13:41

Without public interest, cause-driven work cannot exist. It would be mere personal interest.

SussexRoyalties · 24/02/2020 13:43

My dog keeps getting on the bed. It’s as if she wants to collaborate with me by making it and lieing in it.

SussexRoyalties · 24/02/2020 13:43

I like the word lieing. It looks better than lying.

OVienna · 24/02/2020 13:44

Title for the next thread agreed yet?

Spot on as always, Bluntness

DandyRaven · 24/02/2020 14:05

New thread title suggestion:
‘Have you asked the Queen if she’s OK?”

DandyRaven · 24/02/2020 14:07

Or perhaps more accurately:

Have They Asked The Queen If She’s OK?

(Note The Capitalisation.)

annielouise · 24/02/2020 14:14

Regarding thread titles I saw somewhere, either on one of these threads or perhaps in the DM comments section, "Entitled to untitled". I thought that good.

drina27 · 24/02/2020 14:23

peridito

In the interests of preventing some people tiring themselves out - I have read why you don't like the use of collaborate in this context.

No need to repeat them.

The choice of word is endlessly fascinating, however. Perhaps you are not as interested in the use of language as other posters are.

mrscampbellblackagain · 24/02/2020 14:24

I think if H&M just quietly withdrew to lead a life in Canada doing some charity work - well no one would have a problem with that.

But all this talk of their exciting new chapter etc doesn't really suggest that they want a quiet life.

And fundamentally they need to earn some £££ and I really can't see Harry who loathes the press wanting to go down the monetising Instagram route.

I think a foundation would have worked well for them - they could have got lots of money in donations and then been great figureheads. But as I have said before by cutting themselves off from the RF they need to earn the money and that is where it will all get a bit murky. Not as though either of them are self made billionaires.
