I agree, the first interview with them will be worth a fortune, it will air globally. Maybe even the second. Every one will want to know what they have to say. Not because they love them, but because of the controversy surrounding their behaviour.

There is no doubt though their brand is damaged, and it is their behaviour that’s done it.

From that first statement saying they were taking on a progressive new role and going to be collaborating with the queen, through to their last having a pop at her. They have played this out in the public eye in a very unedifying way.

In contrast the palace has handed it like a master class in pr.

No member of the royal family has publicly discussed or said anything negative. Any statements issued have been short and factual, whilst adding a positive spin ie much loved members of the family etc.

Every single bit of negative publicity they have done to themselves. From using the African tour as a platform to announce they were suing the press, to meghans near tears about no one asking how she was, to Harry sniping at a journalist to ask the African hosts what benefit him being there brought, right through to them sending that statement out that they were going to earn their own money, try to be financially independent, and collaborate with the queen, then on to basically telling the world they were pissed they weren’t getting their own way, and letting us all know they were dropping the use of royal Sussex because they wanted to and not because the queen told them to.

Even the jp Morgan speech, rumoured to have netted them a million dollars, where Harry stood and talked to a bunch of bankers he’d never met about deeply personal issues like his mother’s passing.

And not forgetting their travel company they launched about helping the environment, after taking four private jets around Europe and having a free holiday at Elton johns property.

All of it has been deeply distasteful, graceless, unedifying and embarrassing.

If the palace conducted a master class in pr, Harry and Meghan have done the opposite, they have shown how it should not be done. Every move gets more and more distasteful.

For two people who have lived in the public eye for so long, it’s actually astounding that they can be so illiterate in terms of their own pr.

I just popped over to look on Instagram...can't see the statement in their posts? Now to be fair I'm crap at Instagram but maybe they've withdrawn it due to the response?

I'm sure they'll get initial interviews, but do wonder that once the first rush of complaining about the RF is over that they will lose their appeal in the US.

They only posted a link to the statement in their stories, and stories only last 24hrs. It should still be on their website though.

There’s only so many times he can keep trotting out his sadness at his mother’s death. Particularly if he wants any share of the Duchy I come once William controls it.

Does anyone remember when Paul McCartney had aubergine coloured hair courtesy of his inexplicable love blindness for Heather Mills? I think that Harry is in a similar state of blindness and I guess we should take comfort from the fact that Paul McC now has normal coloured hair and is very happy (nb, macca is regularly seen out walking without any security at all which Meghan should note)

I do think there are a lot of parallels with PM and HM. Obviously not the age gap, but many other things.

@pelicanpie it’s more striking between heather and Meghan; do you remember the McCartney/ mills wedding? She had hardly and friends / family there - people I know went who were friends of her sister and had only met the bride once or twice. Also - levels of delusion (remember heather saying how musical her daughter is because she and her brother had grade 4 piano or something? Like it was nothing to do with her dad being Saint Paul McCartney? And the separation of him from his family - her callings out with his kids. It was like he’d joined a cult and had to be de programmed. In his case, terrible grief over Linda and in Harry’s case, still over his mother (unless that’s also just a dreadful spin to get the banker money. It’s equally just as simple that he’s inherited Diana’s and his grandmother Frances’ fragile mental health

I do think they could make something of this. I read this article about Natalia Vodianova, Russian model who set up a foundation for disadvantaged children which so far has raised about €30m. If Harry and Meghan worked hard, they could definitely achieve this, by themselves. They also have a massive amount of contacts others (like most models, however beautiful) could only dream of. Personally, I don’t mind if they also make money of Instagram commercials for selected brands, become brand ambassadors for a luxury watch, give speeches to investment banks like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs (aka the vampire squid). Good for them.

I just wish they would accept that those things cannot be done from within the royal family. They cannot be their royal highnesses whilst making money that way. And I wish they would stop clarifying the Queen’s statements which seems so incredibly petulant and childish. Their post did come across like they were having a dig at almost the entire family except Prince Andrew. If this was not intentional, whoever wrote it should be fired. The Queen is the monarch AND and elderly lady. It seems they feel badly treated by the royal family which I do not think they are.

I think they should grow up, be nice to the Queen, maintain a dignified front and start taking advantage of the massive opportunities they do have.

Natalia vodianova probably has better contacts than anythise two courtesy of her decade or so in her job and her marriages to justin Portman and Antoine Arnault. She’s certainly got a far larger personal fortune

There's no doubt that they could raid money for charitable causes - but they also need to find a substantial source of income to maintain their rather lavish lifestyle. I can't see how they're hoping to achieve that.

And Natalia Vodianova started dirt-poor in Russia after her father walked out of the family... I think she probably also had a comparably bad childhood.

But that none withstanding, I think Harry and Meghan could make it. I cannot imagine that they don’t have or could not make contacts. They just have to work hard.

But they cannot do it from within the Royal Family. I don’t understand why this is even considered.

If they didn’t mean to come across as they did (I know some posters insist that we have no idea of their intentions), they need to fire their PR people. It all comes across like a train wreck.

And another thing, we have all been there, we have been very invited to an event and accepted, then a “better invite” comes along....

As a private individual, it is not nice to ditch a memorial ceremony and instead for to an incredibly glamorous event with Beyoncé, but if any of my friends did it, I would sort of understand (my friends are not very glamorous though, so unlikely)

As a representative for the Royal Family and (I believe) patron of the organisation organising the memorial service, NO, you cannot do that!!!! Hence, outside the RF is best, for everybody. I am baffled why this is an issue.
