A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

@DandyAndFine

But I’m not sure why you’re saying “comments like this” have put you off; has anyone else said anything based on naively big wrongly believing something

Yes: absolutely.

And I'm sorry that yours was the one that removed my carefully guarded posting thumbs.

Lots of people have said ill-advised things and, when I scrolled back to see something to quote, yours was the first post I came upon.

I do apologise that you were the first in line.

However, if you think about it, yours was the first post still believing that that link was real. So you'd had the most time to check it out in the same way I did.

I'm not trawling back through various threads. The banana one was the most obvious "How can people believe this?" one. And - believe it or not - I don't post a lot.

but hey, knock yourself out. Only next time you’re going be snotty and bold quote me, do include my name. It’s less passive aggressive.

For those who haven't been following (fair play - they've got lives) "@" someone has been looked at as bad form here.

I made the mistake of thinking you were capable of spotting your name in bold.

So, @DandyAndFine, please notice my less passive aggressive answer. Except what you call "passive aggressive", I call polite.

DandyAndFine · 27/01/2020 23:47

I made the mistake of thinking you were capable of spotting your name in bold.

You didn’t put my name in bold. That’s my point. Hmm

For those who haven't been following (fair play - they've got lives) "@" someone has been looked at as bad form here.

I didn’t ask you to @ me, I asked you to name me. Although I didn’t know @rockingchaircandle

As for the banana comments, you’ll see that before I made the comment you quoted, I essentially first ask if MM had put that on a banana to a sex worker. Although full disclosure, I did assume the picture was of MM’s bananas. Peoples responses suggested it was. Maybe they made the assumption to. I am genuinely thankful to you for pointing it out, just think you cold have done it more politely.

DandyAndFine · 27/01/2020 23:49

Obviously the above is to LaMarschallin. Who I haven’t @ed out if apparent etiquette, despite MN putting the function there to make it easier to address people. Confused

LaMarschallin · 27/01/2020 23:49

You didn’t put my name in bold. That’s my point

Sorry. I really I thought I had.

LaMarschallin · 27/01/2020 23:51

Obviously the above is to LaMarschallin. Who I haven’t @ NiceGuyNeddie

No, it's ok - I can read so: got it!

LaMarschallin · 27/01/2020 23:56

Huh?

Not @NiceGuyNeddie

@DandyAndFine

That was weird.

DandyAndFine · 27/01/2020 23:56

Sorry for randomly inserting rockingchaircandle‘s name there, I was trying to say that I didn’t realise it was bad form to @ someone, only when I do that a name automatically enters even if I don’t click on it. My phone is being weird.

Anyway LaM, my point was you didn’t name me and I was asking you to please as urs more polite than just quoting someone. Whether you name me with an @ or in bold or green and white strips, I don’t mind.

DandyAndFine · 27/01/2020 23:58

Ha LaM looks like we’ve both fallen prey to the at trap. Probably is best not to use it then Grin

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2020 00:04

Sorry, this is to @DandyAndFine

And is off topic.

But did you think you'd copied and pasted me, then put @ in front, followed by an immediate return (bent arrow)?

Because that's how I @tted NiceGuyNeddie instead if you.

It's a bit of a glitch, I think.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:08

What will Kate's title be when William becomes King?
Likewise Camilla?

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2020 00:08

Ha LaM looks like we’ve both fallen prey to the at trap. Probably is best not to use it then grin

Maybe.

The nice thing is it shows we've all got something in common.

DandyAndFine · 28/01/2020 00:12

I’m not sure what I did, but It’s definitely a glitch. I had to write out several times what I wanted to say in my last post because, each time I put an ‘at’ sign then typed a sentence and pressed return, it deleted my text and brought up rocking’s name.

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2020 00:18

@DandyAndFine

I think I see what happened (could be wrong: wouldn't be the first time...).

I'll ask a question on "Site Stuff".

Anyway, back to No. 14...

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:21

I know the Queen gave Philip a title. If the Crown is to be believed as Gospel.
I am just wondering what Camilla and Kate will be. Will they be Queens or Duchesses?

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 00:26

When I think of it, Philip isn't King Philip, he's Prince Philip, so I presume they'll be Princess Camilla and Princess Catherine?

CleansUpDragonPoo · 28/01/2020 00:52

My understanding of titles is that Prince Phillip isn't King Phillip because he's the ruling Queen's consort, hence 'prince' not 'king'. When Charles becomes King he'll be the ruler so his wife will be called queen, same goes for William & Catherine.

However, there's a bit of a grey area with Camilla, as I seem to remember some sort of deal so they could get married as public opinion was against the idea of queen Camilla, but perhaps that's all quietly gone away as she's becoming more popular. Personally I have no objection to King Charles & queen Camilla.

Alsohuman · 28/01/2020 00:54

The Queen Mother was Queen Elizabeth so presumably they’ll be Queen Camilla and Queen Katherine.

Whiteskies7 · 28/01/2020 01:57

When I think of it, Philip isn't King Philip, he's Prince Philip, so I presume they'll be Princess Camilla and Princess Catherine?

Philip is a Prince because a king outranks a queen, and the monarch cannot be outranked, so he is a prince consort in the same manner as Prince Albert. Charles & William will be kings, and so their wives will be queens (consort).

When Charles succeeds the throne William will be Prince of Wales & Kate will be the Princess of Wales. When William succeeds he will be King & Kate will be Queen.

Camilla is currently Princess of Wales but not styled as such because of memories of Diana. I vaguely remember that when they were married, it was announced that Camilla would be known as the Princess Consort rather than Queen when Charles succeeded, despite her technically being queen. That may have changed along with public opinion though.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 01:58

Queen Camilla? Lol

Conniving duplicitous harlot maybe. The OW the whole way through his marriage. Shameless bird. I don't think that would be accepted at all!

Queen Katherine I can cope with. I really like Kate. She's lovely.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 02:20

Don't forget that someone so devoid of humanity like Camilla spent the entire time of Diana's marriage fucking Charles. She didn't give a shit. Still doesn't I would argue! I don't know whether the British are more forgiving than myself, but I could never forgive her for that.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 02:27

I don't believe she was ever close to William and Harry. Tolerated by them maybe. I'm sure the Queen had a few sleepless nights over her. I'm not sure what she would bring apart from to sully the RF (as if they weren't capable of doing that all by themselves).
She must be very good in bed or have a nice personality or something, because she sure as hell is not goodlooking, or kind, or gentle. She's been the bit on the side who finally got her man.

FramboiseRoyale · 28/01/2020 03:44

King Consort for the husband of a queen regnant is unusual, but not unknown. Lord Darnley, the husband of Mary Queen of Scots, was given the title King Consort. And Philip, the husband of Mary I, was given the title King without the "consort" addition.

rockingchaircandle · 28/01/2020 05:53

@DeTwamps harlot? Devoid of humanity? The thread's back to misogynistic speculation again is it?
@LaMarschallin Well spotted about the banana pics, sources are important.

The coat flicking thing is mad. Is this what is being referred to? maybe the line between batshit and believable is blurrier than I thought.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 28/01/2020 06:20

FFs DeTwamps - devoid of humanity? So I assume Diana was the same - Will Carling?

The wife of a king is Queen consort. PP is correct it’s rare for a Queen's husband to be a king.

William & Mary were joint consorts. Anne’s husband was Prince George.

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2020 06:37

No, that wasn't the video I saw.

The one I was thinking of included the following clip of her clapping, pulling her coat back, then continuing to clap despite the cake obviously arriving.
However it's obviously edited to show the initial flick twice and again the end flick.

The "furtive look" referred to upthread may be her glance at the photographers or something on her right (the photographers so placed would presumably got the initial view shown on the video). It could have looked as though she was ensuring they got a good picture of said bump.
Obviously, I can't know for sure.*

So this is the closest I can find (but, as I
said, still obviously edited):

*I can't believe how childish I sound explaining this.
Insomnia's a bugger.
