A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

PC and PW seem to have both mentioned gran/g.gran Princess Alice helping save a Jewish family. I think they should have kept quiet and let others mention it. To me it's like blowing your own trumpet. Right now it just feels it smacks of aren't we lovely and aren't you lucky to have us after the scandals

They’re - justifiably - proud of her. Can the RF not do anything right?

Roussette · 27/01/2020 21:50

Correction...
Even though I don't agree with a lot said on HERE, there are times... etc

MrsDoubtTried · 27/01/2020 21:56

Coat flicking is a “mannerism” I can honestly say I have never observed before. Ridiculous and so obvious.

Encyclo · 27/01/2020 21:57

The coat flicking thing is the bridge between this thread and the fake pregnancy/doll IMO

MrsDoubtTried · 27/01/2020 21:59

William is right to be proud of this lady who didn’t have to do what she did. His great grandmother on Prince Philip’s side deserves to be remembered. She seldom is.

Roussette · 27/01/2020 21:59

Totally agree Encyclo

If we saw videos of ourselves I bet we all do peculiar things... the coat flicking is a ridiculous nothing

MrsDoubtTried · 27/01/2020 22:00

The coat flicking was at least once accompanied by a very furtive look.

LaMarschallin · 27/01/2020 22:09

The coat flicking was at least once accompanied by a very furtive look.

Was it the photographer's?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 27/01/2020 22:09

I don’t like the woman particularly but she was proud of being pregnant!!

Roussette · 27/01/2020 22:10

I do them furtive looks all the time Grin
Good grief

I think we are descending into total ridiculousness TBH

Encyclo · 27/01/2020 22:16

Have we finally run out of things to discuss? We're left with coat flicking and furtive looks 🙄

Roussette · 27/01/2020 22:19

Agree, and I'm giving you a furtive look from my laptop Encyclo Grin

annielouise · 27/01/2020 22:21

The coat flicking was very put on but then so are a lot of her mannerisms, it was just bizarre. She's not very natural. The top and bottom bump cradling is one of those on-trend Instagram poses that women seem to do now. Loads do it, not just MM. To me, it makes her seem contrived. Kate did it too but if she was faking it she is a better actress so didn't over-egg it.

What Princess Alice did was amazing. I just don't think now is the time to mention it personally, just my view. But then I'm cynical about the motives of the RF and right now they need all the good press they can get.

yolofish · 27/01/2020 22:21

If you dont want to discuss then dont?

I thought the tributes to Princess Alice were important and significant. She had a bloody hard time, did great work, saved people's lives.

OP posts:
annielouise · 27/01/2020 22:24

No, not ridiculousness, it's just one aspect of MM's contrived, forced mannerisms which have made a lot of people doubt how genuine she is as a person. She's not natural; she's very studied.

Encyclo · 27/01/2020 22:25

Rousette 😆😆

yolofish · 27/01/2020 22:29

I think, if you are (one is) growing up/achieveing maturity in the public eye, then learning how to pose for the camera becomes inherent knowledge. (one foot forwards, tilt the hips etc). Then you look at insta poses and think ooh that's a plan.

Lets face it, most of us do not actually look like people on social medai?

ilovejeffgoldblum · 27/01/2020 22:30

Princess Alice was a legend! , pp childhood was very sad too ☹️, you should have a read . It was a different time that is hard for us to really get to grips with ! . She smuggled him to safety in a crate when he was just a toddler.

Alsohuman · 27/01/2020 22:31

I just don't think now is the time to mention it personally, just my view

You do know what today is? Of all the days to mention it there could be few more appropriate.

katiegoestoaldi · 27/01/2020 22:36

I'm a Jew, I had heard of Princess Alice but no idea of what she had done so I was very grateful to hear it from the RF and I don't believe there was an ulterior motive

Triglesoffy · 27/01/2020 22:36

Nice to see that andrew is all over the front pages tomorrow.

darktriad · 27/01/2020 22:38

I'm taking offence at the suggestions that Harry is thick. I went through school with undiagnosed ADHD and was continously made to feel thick, stupid, clumsy a day dreamer etc. I barely passed any exams. Of course, I'm not diagnosing him, but please stop with potentially disabilist language

Bluerussian · 27/01/2020 22:42

What's nice about it?

It's about time other people far more heavily involved with Epstein were on the front page - but they aren't well known.

I thought this thread was about Meghan and Harry.

For two people who have hardly said anything and have now moved away from the UK and still not saying anything, there's a heck of a lot of opinion. Why can people not just let it die down?

annielouise · 27/01/2020 22:44

Yes, alsohuman. Of course I know what today is! That is why I think today should be about the people that went through it, not the RF talking about what their family member did so somehow gaining some reflected glory. That's how I see; not everyone does of course.

DandyAndFine · 27/01/2020 22:59

@LaMarschallin hands up, I did take it for granted that the photo of the bananas that another poster posted (I can’t remember name) was of Meghan’s bananas! Which is why I couldn’t get over the “work hard” as I found it very tone deaf and rather incredulous. I will ask for verification of images in future before making assumptions, lesson learned.

But I’m not sure why you’re saying “comments like this” have put you off; has anyone else said anything based on naively big wrongly believing something? If not, then I’m not sure how it can quite be enough to put you off. It’s about the harshest criticism I’ve made of Meghan on any of these threads. I tend to stick to criticising Harry, but hey, knock yourself out. Only next time you’re going be snotty and bold quote me, do include my name. It’s less passive aggressive.
