Lenny however needs a rest before he starts searching.

Congrats to DS1 Grumpy.

For those worried about classical music as a career path, there's been quite a few Classically trained musicians who became rock stars including:

Pat Benatar
Eddie Van Halen
Elton John
Jack Bruce (Cream)
Billy Joel
Rick Wakeman (?)
Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Ozbourne)
Tony Banks (Genesis)

Pianoaholic · 11/01/2026 20:42

Annie Lennox studied classical flute at Guildhall I believe.

Allergictoironing · 11/01/2026 20:58

Oh yes flute - Lizzo was classically trained in flute.

I went to church and Gizmo was out when I left, so he'd have to stay out till I got back.

On my way home I popped in to see a neighbour.

After a few minutes, she said "oh look - there's a cat on the windowsill."

It was, of course, Mr. Gizmo.
When I left, he hurried me home.
I've never seen Gizmo run before, but he did today.

He came to get you???

He came to get you???

Well, he does visit this lady anyway.
She's on his list.

He is allowed in her house and enjoys being stroked.
Suzy also goes in, but I don't know if they visit at the same time.

The lady has dementia and has always had cats, and she loves Gizmo and Suzy.

I have to say though that yesterday it was raining, and Gizmo was definitely hurrying me home.

Congratulations to Grumpy Jr, what an achievement! It must feel great when your kids are really flying.

Belated congrats to Grumpy's DS1!

Hope there are plenty of musical NMC's in Hanover.

stormsandsunshine · 12/01/2026 15:32

Congratulations Grumpy. You must be very proud.

DD1 found it quite hard to do her piano practice yesterday because Stripey was hiding behind the piano and miaowed plaintively every time she played a note. The silly cat wouldn't come out through.

I can imagine that would put her off! Would it have been easier if Stripey was miaowing in tune?

Kitty has just been sitting on the cold, wet & dark balcony. And now she’s come in complaining she’s cold.

Well, it is your fault , naturally!

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/01/2026 21:38

I know, I know! And it’s also my fault that I wouldn’t let her go back out there to get cold again.

Lex is insisting that I stop watching TV and give him all my attention instead.

Do other people have cats that get their ears inside out and seem completely unbothered?

Tobias has discovered that having his belly stroked isn't actually an advanced form of torture tonight. We aren't talking about him lying on his side or back for the stroking of course, that would leave him far too vulnerable, but neck scritches while he's eating kibble morphing into a few strokes of the belly is actually quite pleasant.

Pianoaholic · 14/01/2026 12:32

Herbie is expecting some of my lunch (cheese).
Although he looks quite civilised sitting there (as opposed to actually being on the table), I am not giving him anything as he has just had his lunch!

Gizmo and Linney were very happy yesterday because there was cold cooked chicken on the menu for all three of us.

Update on the lay preacher - he has turned out to be gay (fortunately) so it seems that his interest in me in simply because he is hoping that I'll go and do his DM's shopping and arrange some outings for her.

Which I won't be be doing, needless to say.
Hmm

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/01/2026 13:04

I invited the other one (not the married one obvs) for dinner and when he arrived, Linney was on the table, eating his Felix.

Oh well. Love me, love my cats.

The man did eat at the table (he didn't have much choice) and he's returned for a second time.

Yes, I had removed Linney's bowl before serving our food.
🤣

I'd removed Linney as well.

Do not understand how the adoption process works!
So far I have applied for

  • A cat from the RSPCA- no acknowlegment of application but the next dat the cat was labelled as reserved on their website
  • A cat from Bluecross- acknowlegment of application saying I would hear in 10 days, but again the next day the cat was labelled as reserved on their website
  • A cat from a small animal shelter- they acknowledge and asked for picture of house and garden
Does that mean 1 cat, 2 cats, 3 cats or no cats?
EmpressaurusKitty · 14/01/2026 15:35

At my rescue, cats only get marked as reserved when they’ve been paid for but not picked up yet, so my guess is that the first two got adopted around the time of your application.

If someone applies for a cat, we then ask to do a home check which involves a video call so the person checking can see what the home is like. If the cat they’re interested in is no longer available or not suitable we can often recommend a different one.

Three new cats
🤣🤣🤣

Good luck with that Breadcat

stormsandsunshine · 14/01/2026 15:44

When I adopted our cats, the process was:

  1. I filled out the form. It was acknowledged and I was contacted to say that the preliminary information all seemed good and appropriate and I was asked to arrange a time to meet the cats. The cats were then marked as reserved.
  2. I met the cats and confirmed that I still wanted to adopt them.
  3. A home visit was arranged
  4. They confirmed that I was okay to adopt the cats and asked me to pay for them.

However I think marking the cats as 'reserved' this early in the process is unusual. I guess the motivation was to try to direct other potential adopters to other cats who had not yet had serious interest expressed in them, and to spare them tons of applications coming in for the same animals.

I also think it would be really odd to mark the cats as reserved without acknowledging to you that this was happening.
