This is literally the conversation DD has been having with me for the last few days.
To be fair, I felt the same. I wanted to see if I could learn an accompaniment part for her but the critical mewing was too off-putting.

Both cats actively seem to enjoy the violin though.

Critical… maybe it’s just certain pieces she doesn’t like? Could you experiment?

I'm glad you don't all think that we are torturing our cat or risking hearing loss!

I'm now tempted to see if there are particular notes that set her off.

Stripey has come out for her evening play and is running around with a fluffed up tail miaowing at invisible things which are sometimes chasing her and sometimes prey. When the over-stimulation gets too much she hides behind DD2's toy kitchen for a minute and then tears around again.

Snowcat is sitting watching her and clearly thinking 'what is wrong with you'

Do any of the other excellent cats pester for lap time? Kettle sometimes decides it's time for a cuddle and will come and sit near me and stare at me pointedly if I am not in an appropriate place to climb on my lap. He starts purring as loud as he can and then goes over to my usual place on the sofa. It's not hard to get his point 😆

Of course I always sit down and let him if I have time, although it will be a while before I'm free again. He was happily napping before I came in to make tea by the way, but obviously he preferred a lap nap.

Close - we are visiting Estonia's second city Tartu today So it"s next to the Tartu Co 😁

Kitty doesn’t do laps, but she’s very good at plonking herself by her ball track, or on the sofa, or rolling over on the rug, or patting the back door, depending on what she wants me to do.

That'll make Mrs G feel at home.

Kitty’s looking for the Northern Lights but no sign of them down here.

Met him at the Estonian Open Air Museum - think he's a resident.
He was exceptionally friendly while curled up on an exhibit 🤣.

He is a very handsome exhibit!
