Lenny however needs a rest before he starts searching.

Lenny likes ten minutes of attention from me between 4 and 5 most mornings.
Basil slaps Mrs G round the face most mornings at 6ish until she lets him into bed between us.
Fecking cats - just as well we love 'em. 😻

Boris tends to try and wake me up stupidly early in the morning to tell me he's about to starve to death. The last time he had to stay overnight at the vets I was very surprised to wake up and discover that it was 9 in the morning and Matilda was still happily curled up next to me snoozing.

Pixiedust1234 · 18/01/2026 10:06

What the hell is this thing called 5am? Surely it only belongs in fevered minds and not reality? 😱

This morning I was woken by the sounds of the stepladder creaking and thought The Stray was playing with a toy near its feet so went to move her toy for safety. No toy and no cat - until I looked upwards 😬

Rather wet here today and I’m full of a cold so Finlay is a very welcome comfort

@JaceLancs what a sweetie- especially like the upside down legs in the air picture!

Yes, Finlay has taken lessons from Gizmo on adopting that pose.

I call that 'pretzel cat' though it's probably got a better name...adding a picture of a friend's cat doing the pretzel, when she (the cat) was young. She's much too stout dignified to do it now....

Herbie gets fed at 7.30 just before I go to work.
At weekends he has to wait until 8.30-9 but he doesn't pester us, he sometimes dashes around while he's waiting!

Hamish the NMK gazing out at the village.

The only way to stop Hamish eating her DD's cereal is apparently to give him his own bowl, with dry cat food in kitten milk.

Yes, my friend (who never really liked cats) is already a slave to Hamish.
🤣

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/01/2026 14:19

Forgot to attach pic.

And here we have Hamish in the bathroom, either learning to dance or just being outraged that my friend is in the bath

Giving a kitten a bowl of milk on a rug is certainly a brave move.

That was my first thought! 😹

"I'm afraid I've spilt a good deal of it," she said apologetically.
"After all, it's not my Axminster," was Tobermory's rejoinder.

Snowcat is in trouble today.
First she came into our bedroom around midnight and miaowed because she wanted to go in the cupboards. She checks on the cupboards for us most evenings but usually before we have gone to bed. Apparently she was running late last night but the cupboard-checking couldn't be skipped.

Then DH went to sleep in the spare room as he had a cough, and she found this weird so she sat in front of the spare room door and miaowed about it.

Then she woke me up a bit later by bringing up a toy mouse (perhaps to comfort me in the absence of DH), putting it on the threshold of the bedroom and miaowing until I came out to admire it.

Meanwhile Stripey is still spending much of her time resting behind the piano and miaowing pitifully if anyone tries to play it. Stripey's miaow would not wake you up at night - she has perfected the hoarse and broken little miaow that makes your heart break.

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/01/2026 18:24

I’m sorry, @stormsandsunshine, I know all that must be extremely annoying but your post is really funny. I hope your DH’s cough goes away soon.

Esgaroth · 19/01/2026 18:30

It sounds like Snowcat is doing her best to fulfil all her cat duties under difficult circumstances. 😔

Pudmyboy · 19/01/2026 18:36

Is Stripey okay? Just taken a shine to the back of the piano, I hope?

JaceLancs · 19/01/2026 18:56

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne @Breadcat24
Finn is normally much more dignified! Gizmo has a follower x

RumNotRun · 19/01/2026 20:59

I realised tonight that poor Frank hasn't had any of his Lick-e-lix for ages cause there's always at least one other cat in the room. Tonight we got a rare moment with just him in the room so he had two Lick-e-lix and is now feeling content (and looking small!)

Stripey is absolutely fine. She likes to spend most of the day tucked away in a safe space. The piano was her favourite when she first arrived and then she moved on to various other nooks and crannies. She comes out at about 9pm to play and be friendly, and sometimes earlier if she feels like receiving company.

What is new is the sad miaowing when someone plays the piano. You’d have thought by now she would have learned that this is an occupational hazard of sitting behind a piano. She doesn’t try to leave, just guilt trips you whenever there is a pause in the playing.

EmpressaurusKitty · 20/01/2026 07:22

“Sorry, I couldn’t do my piano practice because it was upsetting my cat…”

I pulled a hanky out of my pocket on the tube earlier & a handful of brightly coloured feathers floated out with it onto the bloke next to me’s lap. Kitty decided to kill one of her wand toys last night & I’d pocketed the feathers ready to put them in the bin, then forgot they were there.

He looked a bit surprised. Obviously not a cat owner.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/01/2026 07:27

“Sorry, I couldn’t do my piano practice because it was upsetting my cat…”

While our cats have never showed any aversion to our sons playing the piano, when I occassionally practise my great bass recorder the cats (particularly Karl) leave the room in disgust immediately.

Kitty seems to quite like listening to a nearby neighbour practising her / his saxophone. It’s never that loud though which might help.
