Dogs with human names

Martin. I just met a GSD called Martin.

Absolutely love dogs with human names but I think Martin for a GSD might be the best yet. Almost pipped by Gerald the Chihuahua.

Anyone else met any dogs with great human names?

Dave the Dalmatian, it really suited him too!

The neighbour has two sheep called Kevin and Barbara.

I once met a bull mastiff called Matilda. She was huge and had the beautiful manners and confidence of a dog with absolutely nothing to prove, so the name of a queen was the icing on the cake really. Matilda would also suit a cat, especially of the large-and-in-charge lady cat variety. As soon as you heard it, you'd know someone important was in the room 😁

My dh said he met a French mastiff in the park called Deliaha .

I used to have cockatiels they were called Olly and Polly. My friend had a cat called Jennifer.

When I met DH, he had a cat called Rodger. The cat was a girl.

Our neighbour used to have a cat called Steve, over the road there's a cockapoo called Barry. More of this.

Jeff, the three-legged Irish wolfhound 😍

I love this thread, I can just imagine someone calling " Kevin" at the park
3 50 something men turn their heads!

Splat92 · 04/06/2025 10:09

I love human names for pets. We have a dog Gloria and cats Malcolm and Larry. Previous cats were Alistair, Gary and Shirley and we had a rabbit called Barbara.

I think this thread might be good inspiration for my future pets.

I wonder when The Cult of Dogs will end? Human names for animals are part of the problem IMO.

Yes, in your eyes we're all anthropomorphising, we all treat them like babies, blah de blah 🙄

Do you not see the fun in calling a cat Trevor or a dog Betty? Do we all have to name them Fluffy and Fido, just to appease the anti-pet brigade?

Why is it that dog haters are devoid of any sense of humour?

Never. Muahahaha. 🐕 🐶

My grandparents had dogs called Margaret and Nicola, known as Maggie and Nikki. Bit retro!

As long as you don't do the irritating thing that my mum does. She calls her dogs "human names" and then when she hears of someone naming their baby the same name will pull a face and say "ugh, that's a dog's name". Erm, well it is to you but only because you used it for your dog!

Having said that both my kids have names that are very commonly used for dogs and cats these days. Poor old Rover and Lucky.

Sweetleftfood · 04/06/2025 10:14

We had a black long haired GSD called Susan in the park, she has sadly passed away though. The only GSD my terrier would entertain. She really suited to be called Susan

I know a pug named Paul. Paul!

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/06/2025 10:19

Human names for pets are always the way! No Ms Fluffy McGintys in my house, lol. And Audrey for a dog is awesome! I have a cat called Jasmine - we have been cheering on Jasmine Paolini in the tennis!

Greygirl2019 · 04/06/2025 10:25

My gorgeous staffy is called Anthea, it really suits her and I can’t explain why!

VoluptuaSneezelips · 04/06/2025 10:30

My Aunt had a Maine Coon named 'our' Herbert - imagine Herbert pronounced as urburt in a thick North Manchester accent. Family are all Mancs and it used to crack us up whenever she shouted 'our urburt don't you be giving me that tone of ear' if he was being huffy with her.

MassiveOvaryaction · 04/06/2025 10:34

Our old neighbours had a basset called Trevor. Also met a dachshund called Derek.

cremebruleee · 04/06/2025 10:46

I know a very lovely Staffie called Keith, looks like a Keith too. I had a boyfriend with a cat was called Eric, after the Eric Cantona.

ShinyWorthKeeping · 04/06/2025 10:50

I know a sausage dog called Ryan, a westie called Dave and my mum has a dog called Ellie-May (short for Eleanor-May!)
