Puppy changed mind 😭

After saving months for a £2000 Maltipoo I’m getting cold feet. Come here for different prospectives so please don’t hate me but tell me the truth, as I feel like a horrendous person..

Puppy is from a breeder, saw her at a week, lovely put deposit down. Very excited…
Puppy is 4 weeks old and still has the pinkest nose I have ever seen, I have googled the breed with pink noses and as shallow as I am it wasn’t something I really wanted and after saving month for a particular breed feeling a little upset. Mainly upset with my self that it bothers me.

I’m a previous dog owner last dog passed away earlier this year at 15. Dogs are fantastic and hard work, have a family and wanted like our previous dog to do everything together but worried about the amount of sun the dog will take before getting burned..

Im not fussed about liver colour, some pink etc. This is pig pink, dog is white too….

I know this is what you get for a cross breeds. I feel so many people have cross breeds and it’s not happened to them.
He is a beautiful put, but I’m concerned to get over the pig nose esp as his not cheap.

Just googled the difference and I totally get what you mean. I wouldn’t pay £2k unless I was 100% happy. If I were you I would pull out now.

Is the breeder sending you updates / photos ?

BooBooDoodle · 21/10/2024 17:48

You don’t sound like someone who should own a dog or deserves a dog. Most dogs are born with pink noses, these go darker over their first few months and are fully covered by 2 years old. Getting a breed like that and the money you’re spending on it tells me you’re pretty precious and only want a dog that looks good. Get a rescue, stop encouraging these stupid breeds.

oakleaffy · 20/10/2024 13:32

DO NOT get a dog.

Especially not with three children.

If the pink nose bothers you {I like a black nose personally as we had a Whippet who had a white stripe {dark nose} and he needed sun block on his stripe in hot weather.
£2,000 for a mongrel is insanity.

Back out NOW and lose the deposit.

I wanted a big black male greyhound, and the Dog's home paired me with a ginger broken~coated tiny skeletal female Lurcher puppy - I took her, and she was fantastic!

But she was £100 in today's money.

We have a pure bred whippet aged 10 and we pick up our two year old ex racing greyhound on Saturday. So many need homes and they have such a gentle nature. Love this

Gandalfsthong · 21/10/2024 18:09

I don’t feel you are going into this for the right reasons. Having a puppy/dog is a huge commitment. Have you done research about the needs of this breed as opposed to just the aesthetics of it? Please please take a look at Louise Glazebrook on insta/ read her book about puppies and what they need from us on a daily basis and consider that commitment…

also, there are loads of the hypoallergenic breeds needing to be rescued….. the £2k is nothing compared to the commitment and ongoing expense of having a dog.

Hameth · 21/10/2024 18:29

Oscar Wilde: It is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances. The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible ... he would approve of your pink nose ick.

Maltease and poodle don’t shed, making it a better option…
Cockapoo can shred, due to the spaniel

If you bought a pedigree, pure breed dog (e.g. a Poodle) it would cost you significantly less and you would know exactly what you were getting, including a black nose! For the life of me, I cannot understand why people want to pay (much) more for across breed 🙄

Mummy289 · 21/10/2024 18:53

@Gandalfsthong i actually had a 4 paw family member for 15 years, who I didn’t just give up on when poorly 🤦🏼‍♀️. Because I wasn’t expecting a pink nosed dog it automatically means I can’t commit to a dog? Although I previously have.
Yes I have researched the breed 🤦🏼‍♀️.
Also really the post was about is this effecting me only because I have not got a connection with the dog as only saw him at a week.
@Hameth thank you.

@AnnieSnap actually after my research you can get pink nose poodles and they would be disqualified as a show dog. 🤣. It could happen to any breed.
Also you have to make sure dogs sight and hearing is ok. So something else to think about

Honesty you will all think I’m weird but hey who cares you think I’m shallow any way 🤣.
i hate bare feet like I wouldn’t cry about it but personally always need my socks on and they just ick me. I’m finding the nose like feet (to me like most people wouldn’t mind feet).

If you get a black poodle, you’ll get a black nose. Certain things are excluded in the breed standard. That doesn’t mean they have occurred for donkeys years! Why do you want to pay silly money for a cross breed? Poodles are amongst the healthiest of breeds and come in three sizes 🤷‍♀️

You are being very shallow and selfish. Please do not become a dog owner again-if something so trivial as nose colour bothers you, you really aren't a suitable person to buy this beautiful little puppy.
Do the decent thing-walk away now and let the little pup find a loving home with someone who will love it no matter what colour its nose is.
PS a dog is NOT a fashion accessory.

I mean... isn't it obvious that you want to make sure a dogs sight and hearing is okay? That's why breeders will test for it.

Tbh, you're proving the point I said ages ago in this thread. You'll be one of those people who reappear under a new name in six months unable to cope with the puppy because you've ignored the advice of every single person on this thread.

Chances are, given you're getting a designer mongrel from a breeder who will sell to someone with multiple kids (including one who is under five), you're going to end up with a profoundly sickly and unhappy dog. But you don't care, right? As long as it doesn't have a pink nose.

CommonAsMucklowe · 21/10/2024 19:20

With three disabled children the last thing I would be doing is getting a pet. Btw, have you checked insurance prices or are you not going to bother, they are through the roof! Don't do it.

laraitopbanana · 21/10/2024 19:21

Hi,

please if you don’t want it don’t take it! You will just break its heart 💔❤️‍🩹

No shame. You changed your mind. End of.

Good luck 🌺

Why are you paying 2K for a crossbreed!? You should never pay that for a mut! I take on rescue dogs and have raised 10 crossbreeds in the last year! They are worth £400 at best. They also come with health issues:

Maltipoos may experience a variety of health issues, including: Patellar luxation: Occurs when the patella (femur, kneecap, and tibia) become unaligned. Can lead to lameness or abnormal gait. Shaker syndrome: Tremors that occur in the head and body.

Go to a shelter and adopt one, or a rescue!

Mummy289 · 21/10/2024 19:23

@CommonAsMucklowe another one to judge 🤣. Had a dog for 15 years never heard of pet insurance…. Yes dog always insured, jabbed wormed etc. disabled children def shouldn’t have any animals around 😬🙄

Do the dog a favour and don’t have it! You obviously just don’t love it for what it is, you’re one of those shallow people who just want a status dog!

cavalier · 21/10/2024 19:52

Please be fair to this little furbaby and not buy them.. if in doubt leave it out
puppy’s take a lot of love and devotion and if you are not “feeling it “ then …

@SidekickSylvia see is the same and dont think I would ever walk past one and say aww how cute. However I feel bad choosing now. I assumed people choose the dog they liked tge look of 🤦🏼‍♀️

People, sensible people who should have dogs, choose a breed with temperament and traits and size they can work with. Do they need a lot of exercise, are they intelligent so need mental stimulation, are they massive shedders , do they need to go to a groomer every 6 weeks, do you have to spend time every day brushing out tangles, is the garden big enough..are my children over 5 and safe to be let near a pup without pulling its ears and getting bitten in return? Some breeds are snappier and bark more than others. Do I remember what it’s like to have a puppy chewing everything in sight for a few months, accident with house training , and doing zoomies after getting used to the quiet of an older dog

Topazmumma · 21/10/2024 20:03

Sorry but what you have saved for months for, is a mongrel. A Maltipoo is not a 'breed' it is a mix just the same as Cockerpoo, Cavapoo and all the other ridiculous amalgamations of names. I'm sure they are lovely puppies, but make no mistake, breeder or back alley accident you are paying stupid money for a fashion accessory.

NavyBee · 21/10/2024 20:12

I would wait till you can get the dog you want. I breed pedigree cats - people often have a specific look in mind when they are paying big money (not looking to rescue an animal in need) and often request specific colours and I think that’s OK. Also - legit concerns about sunburn. I’d contact the breeder quickly, be apologetic (you are messing them about a bit) and say the puppy is not right for you, maybe stress sunburn concern more than your dislike of the look as breeders can be sensitive. You have a lot on your plate. Be kind to yourself and spend your saved money on the dog you want
