Puppy changed mind 😭

After saving months for a £2000 Maltipoo I’m getting cold feet. Come here for different prospectives so please don’t hate me but tell me the truth, as I feel like a horrendous person..

Puppy is from a breeder, saw her at a week, lovely put deposit down. Very excited…
Puppy is 4 weeks old and still has the pinkest nose I have ever seen, I have googled the breed with pink noses and as shallow as I am it wasn’t something I really wanted and after saving month for a particular breed feeling a little upset. Mainly upset with my self that it bothers me.

I’m a previous dog owner last dog passed away earlier this year at 15. Dogs are fantastic and hard work, have a family and wanted like our previous dog to do everything together but worried about the amount of sun the dog will take before getting burned..

Im not fussed about liver colour, some pink etc. This is pig pink, dog is white too….

I know this is what you get for a cross breeds. I feel so many people have cross breeds and it’s not happened to them.
He is a beautiful put, but I’m concerned to get over the pig nose esp as his not cheap.

I see dogs as individuals with different personalities. What they look like is irrelevant, but yes, walk away as you don’t sound the right owner for this pup.

Would you be disappointed to have a brown eyed child if you preferred blue eyes?

That's not the same thing. You would never be allowed to choose from a litter of human babies, for a start, nor would you buy one.

@CinnamonJellyBeans that’s what im
thinkinb I feel I have mad a big mistake, tbh I feel I just want my previous dog back as a puppy again 😭. Thought I was ready

When my first lad died, I was devastated , I mean totally devastated , A few months on I thought I was ready for a new puppy, spent months researching and finding a breeder, went on the wait list, paid £500 ( which was a lot back then ) and came home with the most adorable cocker spaniel ever - and I never loved him.

I realised with hindsight I was looking for another Gunnar ( my first ) and no dog was ever going to be him.

Don't get me wrong, that wee fella had a lovely life with us, but I never felt for him the way I did for my first

Fast forward 25 years and we were offered a pup from a litter of Frugs, they needed homing - so we went along and chose our new fella and the dog I have now looks nothing like the wee fella we picked. We picked a sable with a dark face, I have a fawn with barely any black on his face :) This lad is as loved as much as my first lad, perhaps because now I was ready, perhaps because a completely different breed

I would walk away now. Give yourself time, your new companion will find you

coffeesaveslives · 20/10/2024 16:00

I think if you're having second thoughts this early on, it's best to pull out, no matter how "shallow" the reason.

It could be that your gut instinct is telling you something is off with the breeder, or because the time isn't right, and this is its' way of showing itself.

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 20/10/2024 16:04

Do NOT buy the dog.
You do not want a dog. You want a specific accessory. A dog lover would not behave the way you do. You want a certain aesthetic, an “instagram, picture perfect” aesthetic.
Do not get that poor puppy. Let them go to the home of a dog lover. Someone who will raise them with all the love they deserve.
You sound not only shallow, but also callous.
Also, you do understand a crossbreed is a mongrel don’t you? The only difference being is that a human has forced the breeding rather than it happening naturally. It never ceases to amaze me that will people will pay pedigree prices for a non pedigree

JMSA · 20/10/2024 11:55

Umm, this has to be a wind-up, surely.

Right? I loved my baby but it didn’t have any hair when it was born and I wanted a baby with hair and now I am regretting having a baby (clearly I am being sarcastic but y”know……).

I will only want and love the dog if it’s exactly the way I want it. The dog isn’t an accessory and the fact that you have come on here thinking others would sympathise with you smacks of entitlement.

You can’t control the world and the desire to feel like you can and when you can’t you don’t want it smacks of entitlement. Get a grip.

CellophaneFlower · 20/10/2024 16:09

Are people genuinely that shocked that cross breeds go for 2k? It's surprising as so many on here always mention the massive price of poodle crosses 🤷‍♀️. Not to give you all a heart attack or anything, but they were going for practically double that 3 years ago!

I didn't pay 2k for mine but had I had to she'd have been worth every penny. Raising a litter of puppies isn't cheap if done properly and it's bloody hard work. At least a few months off work needed for a start, so there goes some of your profit right there. Cost of a decent stud, health testing, hip/elbow scoring, decent food, vets bills etc, all adds up. And yes I realise there are many unscrupulous breeders out there who will cut many, many corners, but it's unfair to tar all cross breed breeders with the same brush.

CellophaneFlower · 20/10/2024 16:11

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 20/10/2024 14:06

There are thousands of x breeds and mongrels in rescues - including puppy ones !!!

why would anyone pay that ?

Not everybody can have/wants a rescue.

Startrekkeruniverse · 20/10/2024 16:11

Apolloneuro · 20/10/2024 15:05

Absolutely bloody lutely. Thinking you might not give the dog a home after all because of the colour of its nose proves you should never own a pet again.

👏

Chipsahoy · 20/10/2024 16:15

Get a poodle. Good for allergies.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 20/10/2024 16:16

I think there are a few other issues, however, I just wanted to share my experience. I really wanted a two colored dog but all the puppies we saw were just one colour. We got a one coloured puppy and I remember the first night crying my eyes out because it wasn't the look I wanted. That dog became my shadow and we adored each other. I wouldn't overthink it.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 20/10/2024 16:20

I’m with the people incredulous at the 2 grand charge for a cross breed. My 2 cross breeds were £200 and £400 (pre and post covid). Oh and there’s no guarantee comes with the cross breeds either. One has IVDD (they’re both part French Bulldog) and the other is deaf.

We love them dearly anyway.

Because you’re an actual dog lover. OP is not. She wants an accessory for the aesthetic it will provide-most likely for social media 🙄

Cruel, mean, misguided and plain wrong!

Did you read the OP’s posts? How can you be so horrible?

Indeed I did. Read them through an animal lovers eyes. Which you are clearly not.
Read the room. Says a lot when you’re in the minority but you still believe you’re right

"I remember the first night crying my eyes out because it wasn't the look I wanted"

My 6 year old cried his eyes out because our blue staffy rescue didnt actually turn blue 😂

nosmartphone · 20/10/2024 16:28

Please do not get this puppy. That's it.

@coffeesaveslives it’s crazy must admit I wasn’t.
our old pup had dementia, and really high care needs the last year was awful, so see her go down hill.
The kids really had to watch her loose herself. 😭. Just wanted some happyness and new memories.
She was soiling and wetting herself, everytime constantly in and out the garden, and then just staring, bathing her and brushing her lots as she would wee and poo in her bed and lay in it. Then getting skin infections due to the bathing (fungal) then bathing her every day with anti fungal meds. It was such a hard. And knowing she was getting worse every day. I suppose having a pup and having that fun again was what I was after, and have completely forgotten why we started looking in the first place ❤️

This has got to be a wind up surely. Your poor dog.

Me too! Ours was £250 7 years ago but has now become cross breed that’s a lot more popular the last year or so and has been given a stupid designer name to sell them for more money🙄

Wexone · 20/10/2024 16:31

I am at a loss at 2k for a cross breed 🤷‍♀️ and even worse you have rescued before and know the fuckin crap rescues are under at the moment especially. Jesus christ 1🙈

Poodlemania · 20/10/2024 16:34

Maybe you should go alone, without your children to see if you feel that instant love.

Wexone · 20/10/2024 16:34

CellophaneFlower · 20/10/2024 16:11

Op stated she had rescues before and loved them. no reason whatsoever to go back and get another rescue
I actually think it shoudl be against the law to breed at the mo. shoudl be like Germany or Switzerland very strict laws on dog ownership you have to prove you can look after a dog people actually check on you so often that dog os minded.. like social services for a dog.

stayathomer · 20/10/2024 16:36

Op I get you’ve had a dog before but if you have any doubts do not get any dog. I spend as much time with my dog as my kids because he’s young and can’t be around them when eg they’re eating chocolate, have friends over (one is allergic, two terrified of dogs etc). So muggins here sits in with him. Give yourself a break and don’t get a dog

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 20/10/2024 16:45

You are allowed to feel how you feel.

How much money are you going to lose if you walk away? The dog won’t care as it’s a puppy. The breeder obviously won’t deal with you again so it’s going to depend on whether there are other breeders around for you to start again.

Mummy289 · 20/10/2024 16:49

@ReadingInTheRain583 why would that be a wind up? What sicko would lie about their previous dog having dementia!
