if I had the time and the money to be obsessed with myself like they are in that film I'd have either no kids or plenty babysitters

I'm fed up hearing the media going on about this stupid film as if we are all interested in it

bag'o'shite if you ask me

Never watched it. I am simply not interested in programmes that are not about anything other than heteromonogamy and consumerism.
I might have watched it if there'd been zombies in it though.

wukter · 27/05/2010 16:01

There pretty much is SGB.
Haven't you seen the mmmBrainswantBrains look in their eyes when they walk past a shoe shop.

TiggyR · 27/05/2010 16:30

I've only ever seen one episode in my life, and I didn't really get it. Not remotely fussed about seeing either film. Also, I'm sure she's a very nicw woman and all that but don't you think SJP is just the world's most over-rated star, looks wise?

OllieWollieWoo · 27/05/2010 16:32

Saw SITC2 last night (out a day early in Holland). Was fab - very, very funny, Samantha had the best lines by far, clothes rocked (as did Carries and Bigs apartment - gorgeous). Carrie was a bit moany/whiney which grated a bit. Def better than the first film imo!

wahwahwah · 27/05/2010 16:34

Never seen it. They all look hideous.

shimmerysilverglitter · 27/05/2010 16:34

I never watched it in the early days, only really got into it in Series 4 and then went back and caught up, have to admit I really love it.

But I am aware I being controversial here, she should never have ended up with Big, I never really liked him, Aiden better for her.

squeaver · 27/05/2010 16:37

this is a brilliant review

redandgreen · 27/05/2010 16:45

I don't think you could really describe Samantha as heteromonogamous. Not until the show went wrong in the last couple of seasons. The first film was godawful though. My jaw was hanging open when they were all berating Miranda for having a hairy minge. And when they were all worried about Samantha because she'd put on weight. (Weight that was invisible to the human eye).

Fennel · 27/05/2010 16:47

I like it for the sex and relationships and friendship stuff, I ignore all the clothes.

Aiden was gorgeous. just my type.

whatwasthatagain · 27/05/2010 16:48

Never watched a single episode.

Ineedsomesleep · 27/05/2010 16:49

Never watched a single episode either. From the publicity surrounding the film, I don't think I'm missing much.

shinyshoes · 27/05/2010 16:51

never missed an episode .

Its fab and I'm trying to arrange a date with my girlmate to see the sequel

SoriaMoria · 27/05/2010 16:56

Squeaver - thanks for the link. Had been trying to work out how to do that as loved the review. Especially the 'everything I hold dear as a woman and a human' quote.

I loved the series, love clothes and shoes not to mention having been a single girl drinking cocktails about ten years ago. But the film was vapid nonsense and only worth it for the shots of NYC and the montage of clothes through the ages. I won't be watching SATC2, no point wasting a night off on that.

petisa · 27/05/2010 16:56

Didn't watch all the episodes, but I thought the series was really funny, especially Samantha. Loved how daring it was about sex. SJP did get on my nerves, and I really did NOT like Mr Big, the reasons for which she was attracted to him, or the fact that they ended up together.

Never saw the films, and know to avoid them now.

petisa · 27/05/2010 17:05

That review is hilarious!! I am agog at the description of what happens in Abu Dhabi.

camaleon · 27/05/2010 17:06

Squeaver...
Thanks for the link. Very much indeed. A woman I admire insisted this was a good TV series and I have tried 2 or 3 times to watch an episode. I cannot take it. But this review is great

thumbwitch · 27/05/2010 17:08

another one who couldn't care less about it. I didn't see it for ages, then watched a few (mostly very boring) episodes - didn't see the first film, won't be seeing the second.

thumbwitch · 27/05/2010 17:15

That's a stonking review there, squeaver - loved it!

TennisFan · 27/05/2010 17:21

Can't really stand SATC, in particular whiny SJP.
Didn't see the first film either.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/05/2010 17:23

I loved the series, really loved it. But I can't summon up too much enthusiasm for the movies.

Mingg · 27/05/2010 17:24

I loved SATC series - look forward to seeing SATC2 even though wasn't that impressed with the first movie

Lolinha · 27/05/2010 17:37

I never really got it either...
I DID try a few times, but I don't get it!
I am not a prude, I have a great sex life, I can appreciate and understand unusual, eccentric clothes (I am a fashion and jewellery designer), I swear and wear sexy, colourful clothes myself, but I-DON'T-GET-IT! I find them all utterly vulgar and common (maybe apart from the brunette who is quite pretty and classiER - the others, urrgh - real tarts and quite unattractive (especially Sarah JP!)). Some of the clothes are obviously just picked up for the series because they are expected to wear 'off the wall' kind of fashion, but frankly!... They have become some kinds of fashion icons.
P-LEASE!...
However, I would have their Manolos any time - ALL their Manolos... and I am a size 4 (shoe size!), by the way.....

boodleboot · 27/05/2010 18:03

its pure escapism....i love love love it.

can't wait to see aiden again.....

becaroo · 27/05/2010 18:14

Never have, never will

SkaterGrrrrl · 27/05/2010 18:19

"the tv series was amazing, empowering, liberating, and funny as hell."

Exactly. The whole point of the tv show anyway was the strong female freindships. Plus showing women in their 40s still being fabulous. Miranda is an amazing feminist role model. Love, love loved the series.
